DIY Monday!! Since buying the Boy a record player for his birthday, we have been trawling the charity shops and car boots to pick up old records! We have found some gems, like a 1st pressing of the Beatles, Sergeant Peppers Lonely Hearts Club. And some not so great compilations. So what to do with the ones we don't want? Turn them in to cool retro bowls of course! Place the record on a bowl or mug in the centre of a preheated oven, about 150 C should do. Watch as the record slowly begins to warp Remove carefully from the oven with mitts. At this point you can shape and mould. If your not happy, pop it back in and try again! All you have to worry about now is filling the hole!

Beer! A wonderful long weekend spent in a little fishing village on the Jurassic Coast, called Beer! Perched on the west side of the valley at the top, is the family holiday home. A couple of hours by train, the boy and I were joined by my parents, brother, his wife and their two beautiful children, for a long weekend of family fun in the sun! We started the weekend with an early dinner at the Dolphin Hotel, of freshly caught fish, mussels, and their signature dish of Pan fried scallops and bacon. Absolutely delicious, washed down with a gorgeous bottle of White Roja. http://www.dolphinhotelbeer.co.uk The clientele is a mix of locals and visitors, and the staff are fantastic, very attentive and patient. Especially with a 2 year old running around too see the fish and terrapins in the foyer, or with the impromptu nursery rhyme concert! The children and grown up went home and allowed us to stay out to play in the newly opened wine bar, Osbournes! This place is perfect! Cosy, inviting, great service, fresh food (by this point we were so full, but have sampled before) and of course a fantastic selection of wines! Saturday was spent at the Donkey Sanctuary in nearby sidmouth. http://www.thedonkeysanctuary.org.uk Founded in 1969 by Dr Elisabeth Svendsen MBE, this place has featured heavily in my childhood holidays to Beer. This incredible woman, worked tirelessly to grow her idea into the international charity it is today. Over 50 million donkeys and mules exist in the world. Many need care and protection from a life of suffering and neglect, but that is a far cry from spoils of this amazing set up. It has now become a firm favourite of my niece and nephew, open spaces full of donkeys to be petted, ridden and fed. Sunday, it was gorgeously sunny, so we went to the beach, and stayed there! It takes a while to get comfortable on the peddles, but once you have wiggled your way in, it is so relaxing! The beach itself is a small cove, with a 'concrete block' to the east side and landing stages for the local fishermen to the centre of the beach. Beautifully sheltered, the beach is a real sun trap, unfortunately this does not heat up the English Channel. But the sea is as calm as a mill pond most days, and crystal clear..... It is by far my most favourite place in the world.
