Jessica Beringer’s Reflective Essay for Emerging Multimedia Technologies
The information I learned taking the MDD410 emerging multimedia technologies has been very beneficial to me and my future career.  I have learned about many different subjects in the multimedia technology field, such as augmented reality, online gaming, 3D printing and more.  Each is beneficial to me in different ways, but the best part about taking this class is that every subject over the past seven weeks has helped me in  many ways.
I expected to learn the newest technologies being used in my field of work (graphic and web design) from MDD410 emerging multimedia technology.  I also expected to learn about  applications or software from the internet that are free or at a low cost.  Software like picmonkey, canva, and dreamworks and all the latest multimedia technologies.
I learned more about Google maps and that I can make an interactive map, which was really neat.  I also learned how to use Google draw and learned that I can make online games with it.  I also learned that I can have my designs created in Photoshop printed in 3D, which is amazing, and I learned that there are applications that make QR codes.  Additionally, I learned about augmented reality (AR), which is a really neat and a newer technology that could be very popular in the future.
The thing that I learned about that I now see in a different way is Photoshop, because of the 3D printing.  I think that knowing how to use a software that has the ability to 3D print will be very beneficial for my future career.  By creating a simple object the first time using the 3D printing helped me to understand the steps needed to continue to use Photoshop’s 3D printing abilities.
The key takeaway from my learning with this course is that even though I may know how to use an application or software, I probably do not know all the cool, interesting and beneficial things that can be done using the application or software.  I knew how to use Google drive and other Google applications and I knew a lot about Photoshop, but I didn’t know about Google draw or the extra things available in Google maps, and I did not know how to use the 3D section of Photoshop.  I think knowing about the things I can do with those software will help me a lot with my future career.
I have learned a lot the past seven weeks in my emerging multimedia technologies class.  All of the things I learned are truly beneficial to my career and even my passion for creating unique artworks.  I am glad to say that most of the things I learned are fairly simple to do and without this class I would have never thought that many of the things I learned could be done so quickly and used in so many different ways.  I now feel more confident with my knowledge of emerging multimedia technologies.

Mashable

Mashable has numerous topics, each with its own page.  The one that will help keep you up-to-date on emerging technologies is the Tech page.  It has lots of articles that range from silly tech topics to the newest gadgets.
One of the featured articles Here's how Apple Watch's new 'walkie-talkie' feature will work states that the watch will be able to send audio messages, like a walkie-talkie, “with just one tap of the wrist.”  This neat new feature will work on any WiFi network or on a cellular network too.  The funniest thing in this article is that it says if a user gives the watch permission to use this feature it is giving another person wearing an Apple Watch the go ahead to yell at them while they are out in public.  Pretty funny if you ask me.  Here’s the link to find out other neat info on this feature https://mashable.com/2018/06/05/apple-watch-walkie-talkie/#fPxjMomACsq2
