ADAD Ass2 final statement

In a technical sense, a glitch is the unexpected result of a malfunction, especially occurring in software, video games, images, videos, audio, and other digital artefacts. If you cannot understand the hundreds of Chinese words above, that’s means you having glitches in reading them. Though you use google translator to translate them, these words lose the original meanings. 

In my final work, I would like to interpret the glitch to a cultural barrier, a kind of feeling or a depressing experience. At the beginning of the video, a bloody hand shot on the fuzzy bathroom door, then fell slowly on the glass, leaving a trace of blood red. I think red on behalf of happiness and luck while blood-like red also means depression, anger and pain which is the start of glitch. This scene is shot in a bathroom full of water vapor, making the effect more looming and horrible. 

In addition, I used screaming, some horrible sound effects to match the scene and create an atmosphere of terror and depression. In the second scene, I made use of body painting. Unlike tattoo and other forms of body art, body painting is temporary, painted onto the human skin which can last several hours or weeks. I poured the pigment yellow, white, brown and orange on the back, recording the process of the pigments slipping down the back. Then I filled my left hand full of red, extremely curved fingers and smooth back, red and yellow, warm and cold are in sharp contrast. Red made the original colours messy disordered and made some skin to reveal the original colour. I adjusted color offset of the second scene to blue so that it would show a contrast between blue toned background with beige skin colour and blood red pigment. 

What’s more, the tone of first scene and second one is different, I would like to make second scene looks like a memory or a scenery in the experiment. Also connect the next scene, the water washed away the solid red pigment slowly on the shower door and the floor until blood red disappearing which had a good interpretation to the meaning of temporary and glitch of the body painting. 

A white and black fragment is in the memory of reviewing the study materials while strange images with bright colours showing up from time to time as a glitch. I meant to show a culture shock in this fragment, as you can see, there are Chinese annotation marked on English learning materials, different ways of entertainment like mahjong, and special font symbols. For most international students, the biggest glitch is not leaving their comfortable cultural environment but how to overcome the cultural barriers. 

At last, I recorded the process of writing a brush as a traditional way of Chinese writing which is more intuitive to present culture shock or culture glitch between eastern and western countries. In order to make the tone of the whole video more uniform, I turned the background to blue as font to red. However, the red font is a special font used in ancient china when sentenced represent death, making the end full of despair and fear.

  Chinese female artist Li Xinmo has a group called “the memory of the vagina” behavior video works. she used the form of the behavioral art to insert the instruments used in abortion and fertility and similar devices into the vagina to convey the mental and physical memory of miscarriages and fertility to women. she turned the spirit pain into a visual image. In her works, the real bare of female part of the genitals, and a large number of virtual lethal sexual equipment, formed a strong visual paradox of the art image is chilling.

In the city of Hai'an, north of Shanghai, when two men rushed the stage and groped the painter and performance artist Yan Yinhong as she danced "one Person's Battlefield"--her furious comment on sexual violence against women.

The assault continued through her entire performance as she dodged the men who kissed and groped her, grappled her to the floor and thrust their hands up her skirt. the audience making only halfhearted efforts to help as they stood by and recorded the incident with phones and cameras.

The terrible glitch is happening not just physically more morally. it seemed like the whole society having serious fault.

This is my final poster about “Glitch” of ADAD 1002 assessment 1. Glitch refers to an unpredictable irregularity in a system. Glitch also refers to any problems we would meet in the daily life. I made a poster looks like a maze which represents a system. Maze is a place full of unknowns that people might be trapped inside couldn’t find the way out. And there is only entrance in the poster no exit which means the unpredictable glitch in the system. As you go into the maze, you can’t forecast your future or the location of exit. There are always many glitches on the road. And the maze can also be separated into six letters becoming a word “ glitch” just convey the theme in a straight way. In addition, I was confused by what materials should I use to make the poster (not allowed to use traditional art tools), finally I closed the electric wires. I use the electric wires to make the whole poster because the word “glitch” reminds me of elevator problems, television problem or some electrical machines’ problems. And the electric wires are the most important element of these electrical machines. What’s more, there are many gaps between the letters which represents the cause of the problems of these electrical machines.

ADAD1001 final assessment 3 In this final assessment, to focus on the concept of “erasure”, I tried some different ways of erasing, such as erasing the color of the whole video gradually from colorful to monochromatic, erasing the primary elements of the images. Eventually I would like to do the concept of “erasing the nature” which is similar with the assessment 2. In this video, I did several experiments. First one is coke experiment, basically, I poured the milk into the coke and saw what happened next. Once the milk mixed with coke, producing a strong chemical reaction and lots of flocculent precipitate. And gradually it can be clearly seen that there were three different structural layers in the bottle-yellow liquid layer, constringent brown flocculent precipitate layer and uncontaminated coke layer. It is quite interesting to watch the process of the chemical reaction of milk and coke. This experiment erased the nature of coke in color, liquid condition, and edible availability. The second experiment is squeezing the tomato sauce out of toothpaste tube, rather than the real toothpaste. The third one is cutting off sucker in the boxed bottle, stopping drink sucked out from the straw which erase the function of sucker. The third experiment is cutting the cotton thread layer-by-layer and the result is these cotton thread out of use. The last one I used scissors to clip the ball tips from cushion brush which is the most direct way to make it useless. As you can see, when the primary element of the object is erased, the object is not object anymore, because it lost the function of itself. Erasure is rubbing out, wiping, deleting, but something new is created at the same time, like in the coke experiment new object was produced due to the chemical reaction of the milk and coke.
