Can Heart Disease Be Caused By Indoor Air Pollution?
Heart disease is becoming an increasingly common disease amongst Americans, making cardiovascular disease a major topic in health today. It is estimated that about 610,000 people die of heart disease in the United States every year, that means 1 in every 4 deaths is stemmed from heart disease.
An even scarier statistic about cardiovascular disease is that heart disease is the leading cause of death for both women and men.
Frightening, right?
Our health is something we need to pay close attention to, especially learning ways to prevent harm to ourselves and our body. We can do this by learning what factors can affect our health and ways to rectify these factor to better help our overall health and reduce the potential risk of acquiring cardiovascular diseases.
Tumblr media
Cardiovascular Disease Causes
You may be wondering what factors can be the leading cause of cardiovascular disease, and there are a few main factors that can lead to this fatal disease. Smoking (including secondhand smoke), high amounts of certain fats and cholesterol in the blood, high blood pressure, high amounts of sugar in the blood due to insulin resistance or diabetes, and blood vessel inflammation are some of the main factors associated with cardiovascular disease. However, just because these are the most common potential factors of cardiovascular disease doesn't mean they are the only things to look out for. We are going to dive deeper into a potentially dangerous factor to the development of cardiovascular disease, this factor being indoor air pollution.
Cardiovascular Disease Symptoms
Before we look at the potential link between indoor air quality and cardiovascular disease, let's first look at the initial symptoms related to this type of disease.
Symptoms include:
Shortness of breath
Palpitations (irregular heartbeats or a flip-flop feeling in your chest)
A faster heartbeat
Weakness or dizziness
Nausea
Sweating
Tumblr media
Effects of Indoor Air Pollution on Human Health
A silent health hazard in your home that many people forget to even consider is the air quality in their homes. Air quality, specifically air pollution can have both short-term and long-term effects on your health. Potential short-term effects can include eye and throat irritation. While long-term effects can be much scarier, including respiratory disease, heart disease, and cancer which can be quite debilitating or even fatal. You might be saying to yourself, Well I don't have anything dangerous in my home. Unfortunately, for many of us, we are unaware of everyday items that we use that could be putting us at risk. Just by cooking food on your stove top or on a grill can be releasing carbon monoxide into your home's air. Some other common air pollutants in your home could be smoke, mold, and VOCs from the paint in your home. All of these pollutants could be impacting your chances of cardiovascular disease.
Recently, researchers have been spending more time looking at the link between indoor air quality and several serious health diseases. During this research, federal scientists officially ranked indoor air pollution as one of the most important environmental problems in the United States. So no wonder why this is causing quite the stir with our health! Especially when you take into consideration that most Americans spend approximately 90% of their time indoors.
Tumblr media
How Does Indoor Air Pollution Affect the Cardiovascular System?
Indoor air quality was found to be 2 to 5 times greater than outdoor pollution levels. Just this alone shows the potential impact your indoor air has on your overall health. Over time researchers have tried to understand what factors can cause or lead to cardiovascular disease. Especially since according to the American Heart Association, someone dies from cardiovascular disease every 40 seconds in the United States. Finding links to cardiovascular disease can help doctors achieve their mission of reducing the rate of cardiovascular deaths in the United States.
A recent study conducted by the EPA's STAR grant program at the University of Washington performed a decade-long study that reveals a direct link between air pollution and atherosclerosis. Atherosclerosis is a build-up of plaque in the coronary artery that can affect heart health. Also, another study from the medical journal The Lancet found that long-term exposure to particulate matter can prematurely age blood vessels and in response, a quick buildup of calcium in the coronary artery can restrict blood flow to the heart and other major blood vessels. The long-term effects of this blood flow restriction is an increased chance of cardiovascular events such as a heart attack and stroke.
Combating Indoor Air Pollution in Your Home
So how exactly can you be proactive and eliminate air pollutants in your home? The American Heart Association's journal Circulation found that air purifiers appeared to lessen the negative effects of cardiovascular disease. When buying an air purifier you need to make sure it's an effective air purifier that will destroy and neutralize the air pollutants in your home.
The EnviroKlenz Mobile Air System utilizes hospital-grade technology to guarantee the air in your home stays as clean and pure as possible. Unlike many air purifiers, our mobile air system takes in the air and either neutralizes or destroys the source so that the pollutants do not get recycled back into your home's air like other purifiers. The key to this process is our certified HEPA filtration as well as our own unique-to-us EnviroKlenz Air Cartridge that works to remove VOCs and malodors in your home's air.

Another potentially dangerous air pollutant in your home tainting your air is mold. Mold can be the hardest air pollutant to get rid of in your home, and it requires a strong plan of attack for removal. Well, look no further than our latest product the EnviroKlenz Mobile UV Model. This unique mobile air system is specifically designed to combat and destroy mold as well as other bacteria and viruses in your home's air. So what makes this mobile air system different than our basic mobile air system? Well, this system utilizes Ultraviolet Germicidal Radiation (UVC) to remove airborne particulates and allergens and inhibit the growth of captured microorganisms such as bacteria, mold, and viruses. The high dosage UV lamps are located on the collection side of the HEPA filter and work to attack airborne viruses and smaller bacteria. Furthermore, the location of the lamps is designed to keep the filter free from bacteria growth.

Black Mold: Tips to Getting Rid of Black Mold in Your Home
Tumblr media
Lots of things can happen to your home, and that means a lot of upkeep to maintain your home in pristine condition. You may need to make small repairs in your home throughout time but it's the big repairs that people fear.
One of these big repairs that most homeowners fear is the growth of mold in their home. Mold can become a costly repair because of the potential of growth of the mold if it is not caught early.
Did you know that mold spores can germinate after only 12 hours in some conditions and some grow in 24 to 48 hours?
Gross, right?
Mold in your home, especially black mold (also called Stachybotrys) is something to take very seriously. Having knowledge of the effects of black mold and the health effects it can have on you, can help you become better prepared in defense against black mold in your home.
Mold vs Mildew
Tumblr media
Mold and mildew, have many similarities that it can make it hard to distinguish the two from each other. They both thrive in moist, warm areas where they can sprout their homes, as well as both grown on a multitude of surfaces, anywhere from food to your shower. Most importantly, these two things are both fungi culprits in your home that makes your life a little harder.
Mildew is considered a surface fungi that can be easily recognized as a piece of gray or white fungus that is lying on the area of a moist environment. Essentially, mildew can be described as a specific type of mold, that over time can turn black or brown. This type of fungi usually affects plants and crops, but nonetheless, it can affect your indoor area as well. When it develops indoors it can pose a health risk when inhaled, such as causing coughing, headaches, sore throat, and respiratory problems.
Mold is a very different creature than mildew, especially due to its complexity. Mold contains multiple identical nuclei and grows in the form of green or black patches which penetrates beneath the surface of the area it has contaminated. The key characteristics of mold can be it's fuzzy or slimy appearance and its irregular shaped spots that can vary in color from blue, green, yellow, brown, black and even white. The effect of mold on your home can be quite extreme creating structural damage to the affected area, especially if it has been untreated for a considerable amount of time. As well as create harmful health effects on those exposed to the toxic mold, like homeowners living in the home.
How Dangerous is Black Mold?
Tumblr media
A common misconception about black mold is not all black mold is toxic. But that doesn't mean black mold still isn't toxic for our environment and ourselves. There are many thousands of different species of this fungi worldwide and at least a thousand different species found in the United States alone.
Black mold or Stachybotrys Astra (also known as Stachybotrys Chartarum) is a species of toxic mold that is one of the most feared types of mold. Black mold can be quite dangerous, especially to those in the same environment like homeowners and pets. A good indicator of black mold is its appearance, which will appear slimy and features a dark greenish-black color.
The truly dangerous aspect to black mold is the mycotoxins that are released from this particular mold. Mycotoxins are carried on the spores of the toxic black mold and found throughout the whole mold colony present. People with black mold in their homes are mostly exposed to mycotoxins through breathing them in. This can lead to toxic symptoms and health problems for those exposed to this form of mold.
Black Mold Health Effects
It is estimated that indoor air pollutants, including mold and mycotoxins, may be contributing to more than 50% of patients illnesses, says Dr. Jill, a functional medicine expert. However, according to the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC), they state that, Mold exposure does not always present a health problem indoors, and that some are just sensitive to mold.
Molds can create a number of harmful substances into our air that can be harmful. Some of these harmful substances include allergens, irritants, and mycotoxins. The EPA has even stated that exposures to molds can irritate the eyes, lungs, nose, skin, and throats of those in the same environment as the mold.

Black Mold Exposure Symptoms
Symptoms from black mold exposure include;
Fatigue and weakness
Headache, light sensitivity
Poor memory, difficult word finding
Difficulty concentration
Morning stiffness, joint pain
Unusual skin sensations, tingling, and numbness
Shortness of breath, sinus congestion, or chronic cough
Appetite swings, body temperature regulation
Increased urinary frequency or increased thirst
Red eyes, blurred vision, sweats, mood swings, sharp pains
Abdominal pain, diarrhea, bloating
Tearing, disorientation, metallic taste in mouth
Static shocks
Vertigo, feeling lightheaded
Effective Ways to Mitigate Mold in Your Home
Tumblr media
The first steps to take when trying to mitigate mold in your home is to identify the source of moisture that's feeding it, this could be anything from a pipe, your roof, a foundation leak, or even condensation from an appliance. It is critical to stop any leaks and try to remove the moisture from the area to prevent further growth.
Next, protect the possible culprits of potential airway flow. Try to seal off the room of the contamination by closing doors, cover air vents, doorways, and any area where our air can escape. Lightly spray the mold with water to limit the spores that can become airborne when you spray it and you use a scrubber with soapy water to scrub off the mold.
Don't think that you, yourself can mitigate your mold issue. This is where the professionals come in. It is important to have the job completed properly by mold mitigation specialists. However, after this process is completed there are lingering toxins that can get left behind that harbor in your air. For these residual toxins in your home's air, you need to have an air filtration system to remove and destroy the toxins.
The EnviroKlenz Mobile UV Model is a mobile air filtration system that combines our advanced EnviroKlenz technology for toxic chemicals and odor removal with a certified HEPA filtration that removes harmful dust, particulate, allergens, pet dander, and mold at a 99.99 percent efficiency. We use this technology combined with a high dose UV lamps that work to attack airborne viruses and smaller bacteria, such as mold. The placement of the lamps keep the filter free from the growth of bacteria, and as the bacteria are collected on the HEPA it gets destroyed over time.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Removing the toxins lingering in your air from mold can be very difficult but it is a necessary step to prevent health effects related to mold exposure. Taking the necessary steps to protect yourself and your home from mold will benefit you in the long run and help you to maintain good health.

The Hidden Health Dangers of Flood Damage in Your Home
Living by the water is something many people aspire for, saving their money to finally have that waterfront property they dreamed of for so long.
Water, however, can be a potentially hazardous element to your home. Water flooding is a major concern for many homeowners, especially those that live close to the water.
Tumblr media
Recently the United States has been hit by two Category 4 Hurricanes, Hurricane Harvey in Texas and Louisiana and Hurricane Irma in the Carribean Islands, Key West and all over the coasts of Florida. This is the first time that two Category 4 Hurricanes have hit the United States in the same year, nonetheless in the same two weeks. Researchers have found that just from Hurricane Harvey alone, it dumped 27 trillion gallons of water on Texas & Louisiana and almost 53 inches of rain in parts of Houston alone. Can you even imagine how much water that really is? Well, all that water has to go somewhere, and because of Texas's flat surface, it takes some time to return back to the ocean, leading to many homes to take in this vast amount of water.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey, out of all weather-related natural disasters, floods have been both the most common and most costly in the United States. With the potential of widespread impact that floods can cause we should understand the threat it can pose to not only us but our homes, says the FEMA Director of Public Affairs, William Booher.
Risks of Flood Water
Tumblr media
Floodwater can carry with it tons of bacteria and hazardous diseases, making it a health concern for those that come into contact with it. Water in a flood is more than just rainwater, it's often contaminated with sewage and chemicals and can hide potential sharp objects such as broken glass and metal in its water. The sewage in the water can create an unhealthy environment for our bodies leading to boils and rashes on parts of the body that are submerged for extended periods of time says environmentalist Wilma Subra. Exposure to floodwater can increase the risk for skin rashes, ear, nose, and throat problems and conjunctivitis.
The most concerning health problem can be bouts of diarrhea or other stomach problems if people come into contact with the contaminated floodwater or items that have been contaminated by it. The common stomach bug or respiratory may be more likely when you are in close proximity to a large group of people like those in a shelter. With the conditions brought on by a flood, it is hard for people to keep up healthy hygiene standards. The CDC highly recommends that people who are staying at shelters practice good hygiene by washing their hands frequently to help reduce health problems.
Health Hazards Following Flooding
Respiratory infections after floodwaters recede is quite often according to many doctors, especially when people return back to their homes after the flood. Contamination from floodwaters and the mold that quickly grows in a warm environment like Texas and Florida can exacerbate asthma or trigger allergies. Your homes walls, floors and anything with a hard surface that has come into contact with the contaminated floodwater needs to be cleaned to reduce the risks of harm to your health. It is important to clean these items with soap and water and an odor removal product to eliminate toxins and chemicals. The best thing to use on these items is the EnviroKlenz Everyday Odor Eliminator. This product was designed to safely and effectively remove odors and fragrances that are present in carpeting, solid surfaces, upholstery, and furniture. Especially when your carpets, walls, and furniture have been submerged in hazardous flood water. The easiest way to use the product is to dilute it 1:4 clean tap water in a spray bottle and use just like any normal cleaner.

Large Wildfires in Washington & Oregon: How It Affects Your Air Quality
A thick coat of smog.
Layers and layers of smoke covering the air.
The visible haze of air pollution surrounding the Pacific Northwest region of the United States as wildfires begin to take over in the Puget Sound region.
Tumblr media
Wildfires are growing rapidly in the Washington & Oregon areas and with the hottest & driest time of the year upon us, these fires are raging on, threatening homes and forcing evacuations in parts of Oregon & Eastern Washington. The Pacific Northwest is being submerged with two layers of smoke, and the smoke is even worse than they had expected it to be. The low-level system bringing smoke & particulate matter west from fires near Cle Elum and the high-level wind carrying smoke from the fires in Oregon are the main causes of this unexpected thick layer of smoke.
Air quality is a growing concern with the increase in smoke & particulate matter from the raging wildfires in the area. The Department of Ecology warns the air quality in some areas can be unhealthy for sensitive groups, according to Larry Altose, a spokesperson for the department. This can be very scary for people who suffer from chemical sensitivities or diseases that require non-toxic, chemical free air.
Wildfires can be very destructive to not only the environment but to our air quality. It can also be hard to restore the air quality back to its non-toxic state following a wildfire. Finding natural methods to repair the air quality can be difficult, but we will discuss the infallible solution to improving air quality following a natural disaster like the roaring wildfires in the Pacific Northwest.
What You Should Know About the Wildfires
Basically, the Pacific Northwest is under a thick layer of smoke, said Logan Johnson, a weather-service meteorologist.
The wildfires have already burned tens of thousands of acres and continue to spread in the Washington & Oregon areas. Johnson believes the smoke from the fires will act as an atmospheric blanket, which means the daytime temperature will be slightly lower and the night time will be a little warmer than residents are used to. For about 85 percent of Seattle residents, the results of the wildfires are some warmer nights ahead.
The thick layer of smoke in the air has made it hard for officials to perform their job. It has hindered firefighters efforts, making them unable to use air tankers and helicopters with water buckets because of the thick smoke in the air.
Tumblr media
Areas to Watch Out For In Washington & Oregon
Ash covers many areas, as the wildfires continue to progress in the Pacific Northwest region. There are several fires in different areas that we need to keep an eye on. The largest wildfires include the following listed below.
Eagle Creek Fire
Bordering Washington and Oregon, the Eagle Creek Fire has grown from 10,000 acres to 31,000 over the span of a couple of days. There have been evacuations in the area since the merging of this fire with the Indian Creek Fire. Even road closures have begun on Interstate 84 and along the Columbia River Gorge.
Diamond Creek Fire
This Washington State wildfire has grown from 75,000 acres to 95,000 acres. The fire is located near the Okanogan/Wenatchee National Forest with the smoke still affecting the air quality in the upper Methow Valley area.
Tumblr media
Norse Peak Fire
The growing fire has more than doubled in size in the span of two days. With a total of more than 44,000 acres covered in flames.
Jolly Mountain Fire
With the evacuation of more than 1,000 people in the Cle Elum. The Jolly Mountain fire expanded to more than 23,000 acres.
Chetco Bar Fire
The fire expanded eastward from 150,000 acres to more than 176,000 acres. This lead to evacuations for all residents on Illinois River Road and the nearby coastal town of Brookings, Oregon.
Potential Health Effects of Smoke in Your Air
Tumblr media
All the areas affected by wildfires, also have had their air contaminated by smoke and particulate matter than can make their air quite dangerous for those breathing it in. Winds can easily spread ash and different chemicals from a fire including particulate matter, corrosive gases, oils, waxes, fats & other hydrocarbons. However, despite the nasty appearance in many areas including the Puget Sound region, the air is mostly safe to breathe, said Michael Schmeltz, an air-quality scientist with the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency. Counties have moderate air quality but it has to do with the size of the particles. Large particles of ash like the ash landing on cars in the Seattle area can irritate the eyes, nose, and throat. Although the larger particles that are caught by the lungs cilia, which filters out any particle larger than 2.5 microns, are caught, particles smaller than that go straight by the cilia and can cause damage to the lungs.
Washington, however, is experiencing the worst air quality since the intense wildfires of 2015. With the areas of Wenatchee, Ellensburg, Yakima, and Colville experiencing very unhealthy air quality in which health problems can occur, according to the Department of Ecology.
Solution to Poor Indoor Air Quality From Wildfires
Homeowners in close proximity to the fires are at an increased risk for air quality dangers, and many will turn to an air purifier to create better air quality in their homes. Many air purifiers, however, can not keep up with the high particulate matter in the air from the strong, toxic fires. As well as, work on a combination of chemicals, since wildfire smoke is an amalgam of different chemicals. It is vital to have an air purifier that works on a variety of chemical compounds in the air.
The EnviroKlenz Mobile Air System is a simple and easy to use air purifier, that uses advanced technology to neutralize harmful & corrosive chemicals like those found after a fire. Fires have hundreds and thousands of chemicals that can be found in smoke and ashes, these chemicals can be very dangerous to people and their environment. The EnviroKlenz Mobile Air System provides toxic and noxious chemical elimination capabilities in a system that filters particulate matter down to 0.3 microns in size. The EnviroKlenz technology can help with many components of smoke including corrosive gases, particulate matter, hydrocarbons, fats & oils, and resins & waxes. You may be asking how EnviroKlenz can accomplish this tough task? Well, EnviroKlenz utilizes metal oxides, instead of carbon or zeolites to help a variety of chemicals be broken down and eliminated using our technology, eliminating hazardous fire chemicals from your home's air.

Top 8 Autoimmune Diseases Every Woman Should Know About
Tumblr media
Have you ever noticed that you know a lot more women suffering from an autoimmune disease than men? The American Autoimmune Related Diseases Association (AARDA) reported that 75 percent of Americans with autoimmune diseases are women. I know what you are thinking, that statistic is alarmingly frightening isn't it?
Want to hear something even scarier? Autoimmune diseases accounted for more than $100 billion in direct health care costs every year. One of the biggest reasons for this high health care costs is the exhausting effort it takes to actually come up with a diagnosis. It on average takes 4.6 years to diagnose an autoimmune disease and most patients see about 5 doctors in pursuit of a diagnosis.
Us as women, need to become more versed with the knowledge of signs and factors of autoimmune related diseases. Especially since during my research related to autoimmune diseases, many of the different varieties of autoimmune disorders, distinctly say that women are at a greater risk of developing these types of diseases. The real question is, however, why are we at an increased risk of acquiring these diseases?
Functions Behind An Autoimmune Disease
First I will digress, and explain the basic functions of an autoimmune disease so you can have a better grasp of the severity of these diseases. Normally your immune system is there to protect your body from harmful, dangerous things that enter such as viruses or bacteria. However, autoimmune diseases basically have a hard time distinguishing between potential threats and your bodies organs and tissues. Thus, your immune system starts to attack vital organs and tissues in your body. So yeah, it can be very serious and dangerous to your health, to say the least!
Tumblr media
Why Are Women More Susceptible to Developing an Autoimmune Disease?
After reading about what an autoimmune disease is I'm sure you now are curious as to why women have the increased probability of developing these diseases. Why do us as women get the pleasure of possibly suffering from such a debilitating disease? We are gonna dive deeper into the why's of the increased development of autoimmune diseases in the female gender.
Genetic Susceptibility
Interesting enough, our chromosomes could possibly play a role when further research was conducted on autoimmune diseases. Some scientists have offered that women, who have two X chromosomes rather than an X and Y chromosomes like men, are more susceptible to certain Autoimmune diseases.
Immunity Differences Between Genders
No big surprise, but scientists believe that women are at an increased risk of acquiring an autoimmune disease because women's immune systems tend to be more sophisticated than men's. This elaborate immune system, us females have makes us have stronger inflammatory responses when our immune systems are triggered. If you didn't know, one of the biggest key players in autoimmune diseases is inflammation, so this increase in inflammatory responses could be contributing to the progression of women with this disease.
Tumblr media
Sex Hormones
I'm sure you as a woman have been called hormonal a time or two, I know I have! Well, hormonal differences between men and women might be a contributing factor of these diseases. Researchers have seen a flare up when examining autoimmune diseases and female hormonal fluctuations such as pregnancy, menstrual cycle, and oral contraception.
Top 8 Autoimmune Diseases
All of the factors that contribute to the increase in the rise of women developing autoimmune diseases, unfortunately, cannot be avoided. With that being said it is now critical to understand the top autoimmune diseases women develop and the signs to each of these diseases.
Rheumatoid Arthritis
Rheumatoid Arthritis is an autoimmune disease that affects the joints. Your immune system starts to attack the lining of the joints, which causes the joints to become inflamed, swollen, and cause a great deal of pain. According to the Arthritis Foundation, about 1.5 million Americans suffer from Rheumatoid Arthritis, and there are three times as women than men affected by the disease.
Tumblr media
Diabetes
Diabetes is a leading cause of death among middle-aged American women. Although there are two types of diabetes, only one is associated with autoimmune disease. Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease that occurs when the body's system for fighting infections turns against a part of the body. Specifically, in diabetes, the immune system attacks the insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreas and destroys them.
Leaky Gut
All disease starts in the gut, according to the father of Modern Medicine, Hippocrates. Based on that statement, Leaky Gut is an autoimmune disease that should be paid close attention to by women and doctors. Leaky gut is a newly emerging disease that many of us may have never heard of and takes a long long time to be diagnosed by doctors. Leaky gut is when your intestines lose the ability to filter nutrients and other substances. When this occurs, particles of undigested foods, bacteria, and other waste leaks through the intestines into the bloodstream. Tell tale signs of leaky gut are food sensitivities, inflammatory bowel disease, and thyroid problems.
Multiple Sclerosis
Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is an autoimmune disease, where your immune system attacks the myelin coating that protects nerve fibers. This leads to a disturbance in the communication between your brain and the rest of your body. MS affects women more often than men. Women are primarily diagnosed with MS between the ages of 20 and 40 and signs can vary from tingling & tremors to dizziness & slurred speech.
Tumblr media
Lupus
Lupus is a chronic inflammatory disease that occurs when your body's immune system attacks your own tissues and organs. Inflammation caused by lupus can affect many different body systems including your joints, skin, kidneys, blood cells, heart & lungs. An alarming statistic regarding lupus is that nine out of ten people with lupus are women and women of color are two to three times more likely to develop it than Caucasians. Symptoms of lupus can include tiredness, headaches, painful joints, and swelling.
Hashimoto's Thyroiditis
Hashimoto's Thyroiditis occurs when the immune system attacks the thyroid, a butterfly-shaped gland in the center of your neck, which typically leads to a deficiency of thyroid hormones. Hashimoto's affects 14 million Americans, making it the most common type of thyroid disorder that people suffer from. Symptoms of Hashimoto's Thyroiditis include fatigue, weight gain, mood issues hormone imbalances, muscle and joint pain. Be sure to be vigilant about getting annual checkups to check on your thyroid to ensure you are healthy.
Psoriasis
An estimated total of 7.5 million Americans has Psoriasis. This autoimmune disease is a skin condition that causes your skin cells to grow rapidly. Psoriasis is one of the few autoimmune disorders that are equally common in both women and men. The most prevalent type of Psoriasis is Plaque Psoriasis, which shows up as raised, red patches covered with a build up of dead skin cells. Try using moisturizers to manage the level of severity.
Tumblr media
Sjogren's Syndrome
Did you know that four million people have Sjogren's Syndrome and the average age of onset is people in their late 40's? Sjogren's Syndrome is an autoimmune disease in which the immune system begins to attack the glands that make tears and saliva. This condition can lead to conditions such as dry eyes and dry mouth. This disease is much more common in women than men, and scientist believe the disease is caused by a combination of genes and exposure to a virus or bacteria, but they're also investigating the possibility that the endocrine and nervous system play a role.
Air Quality and Autoimmune Diseases
Air pollution is becoming an increasing issue for many people, especially those with autoimmune diseases. An overwhelming amount of synthetic chemicals have been created 80,000 chemicals to be specific- and they have been introduced into our environment causing severe health issues. Although genetics factors were believed to be the key factor in the development of autoimmune diseases, scientists have started to conclude otherwise. They have conducted research and now believe that environmental factors play a role due to the rapid increase in the number of people suffering from autoimmune diseases. Due to this increase, we need to be more thoughtful about our environment and protecting the air we breathe in every day.
A recent study conducted found that our indoor air such as in our homes or offices can be more toxic than outdoor air. With the creation of chemical filled products, our home's air can be more dangerous than you even knew. Placing an air purifier in your home is vital to improving the overall air quality in your place of residence. Unfortunately, many air purifiers have the ability to filter the air but not protect your air long-term. When many air purifiers filter the air they aren't able to destroy the chemicals, malodors, VOCs, and fragrances, which results in them being recycled back into the air. Well, the EnviroKlenz Mobile Air System isn't like the many air purifiers on the market. EnviroKlenz has created an air purifier that not only traps the chemicals but destroys them so you don't have to worry about your air being tainted once again. The EnviroKlenz Mobile Air System uses a certified HEPA filtration and our own patented EnviroKlenz Air Cartridge that removes & neutralizes the VOCs, malodors, and fragrances.

Top 3 Causes of Poor Indoor Air Quality & What You Should Do About It
Many people may suffer from allergy-like symptoms that they're unable to explain. They may experience a sore throat, itchy eyes, fatigue, and other symptoms. Poor indoor air quality may be to blame. Until recently, people who complained of such subjective overlooked symptoms, but scientists slowly recognize poor indoor air as a real health problem.
Symptoms Associated with Poor Indoor Air Quality
Tumblr media
Symptoms of exposure to toxic air can present itself in many ways. They can include acute effects like watery eyes or a headache or can be long-term problems like chronic fatigue. In either case, it may not be immediately apparent that indoor pollutants cause the symptoms, and people may continue to suffer and point to other sources as the cause of their symptoms.
The main symptoms associated with poor indoor air are ear, eye, nose, or throat irritation, dry skin, rashes, headaches, unexplained sleepiness, coughing, respiratory problems, hoarseness, and nausea. Everyone's bodies react to certain substances differently, so one person may have a severe reaction to poor indoor air, while another may notice few to no symptoms.
About Indoor Air Pollution
There's often a lot of commotion about pollen, dander, or other sources of allergies that come from the outdoors. Pollen alerts are issued by weather stations to warn those with allergies to stay indoors. Many don't know, however, that in most cases indoor air is much more hazardous to our health than outdoor air. Many homes, offices, stores, and other buildings contain a high level of volatile chemicals within their walls. From the carpet to the drywall to the paint, these building materials emit chemicals into the air that become more concentrated over time due to the closed in environment. Modern construction that is efficient at keeping outdoor air out can magnify this concentration even more.
Between 40 or more hour work weeks and spending our nights and weekends in our homes, the average American ends up spending over 90% of their time indoors. It's no surprise that members of the same family or co-workers in the same building often experience illness at the same time. This problem could correlate to the periods in which indoor air pollution in the places they co-mingle is at its worst. With all this time spent indoors, many companies also take a hit when it comes to worker productivity if they're not feeling well from being exposed to all these chemicals.
Poor indoor air quality comes from the chemicals present in building materials and furnishing, but can also arise from other factors. Regardless of the pollutants present, one of the biggest factors is the lack of ventilation in most buildings. In many homes and most businesses, windows or doors that they didn't leave open often enough to allow clean air to circulate through and carry toxins out. The chemicals inside buildings often come from new products like new carpet or furniture that, when opened or installed, emits volatile organic compounds (VOC's) into the air. Without ventilation, instead of dissipating those VOC's become more concentrated and dangerous. Other sources of indoor pollution can come from similar types of chemicals given off during a production of goods, from office machinery, or from biological organisms or bacteria from humans that become airborne and trapped indoors. If a worker in a building or resident of a home feels significantly better when they leave the environment, then that's a clear indicator that something's wrong with the indoor air quality.
How to Find Out if Indoor Air Quality is a Problem
Tumblr media
If you're a homeowner or business, it's important to know whether or not your building poses a risk to those in it. It can be a liability risk to operate a business that unnecessarily exposes employees and customers to hazardous conditions. Likewise, no homeowner wants to expose their family to polluted air either. There are several ways you can gauge the quality of the air, so you can develop a plan of what to do in case action is necessary.
The best way to determine if there's the problem, survey those who spend a lot of time in the building. In a home, if you and your family all have headaches, sore throats, or other chronic symptoms that may seem to be synchronized, it may be a good indication that something's wrong with the air. Similarly, if a group of people who work together all are sick at the same time, the source of their illness is likely coming from the place where they spend time together. If surveying employees of the business, it's a good idea to log any reported illness or symptoms formally. It also may be prudent to interview them multiple times to detect a trend or lack thereof in their symptoms.
The next thing to do is to examine and get to know the building's ventilation and HVAC system. Businesses that produce goods and deal with a lot of manufacturing equipment may also have extensive exhaust systems. It's important to find out what the ventilation rate it. Doctors recommend that at least five cubic air per minute, to circulate outdoor air throughout the building for every person inside. If you have access to the proper equipment, you can also measure the carbon dioxide levels indoors and directly outdoors over the span of a few days to detect, if there's a significant difference between inside and outside. As a general rule, the air indoors shouldn't contain more than 700ppm of carbon dioxide higher than the free level.
After checking out the ventilation system and whether or not there is enough circulated outdoor air throughout the building, you should check for other irritants such as mold and mildew. Mold can hide in damp, wet places, and can cause respiratory problems and allergy-like symptoms. Some people suffer for years from exposure to mold without realizing the source of the problem, until after they've spent a lot of money on unsuccessful medical treatment. Check for mold any place water may be present, such as in bathrooms, kitchens, or storage areas.
What You Can Do to Improve Air Quality
Tumblr media
If you have determined there's a problem, you must now take the necessary steps to start mitigating the poor indoor air problem. As noted above, the first thing to do is to ensure proper ventilation. Many illnesses caused by poor indoor air can be alleviated or prevented, just by making sure fresh air has a chance to circulate through the building. Open windows and doors when possible. Check the exhaust system to make sure it's working properly. Change filters in HVAC systems regularly. All of these steps can reduce the concentration of harmful VOC's in the air. After taking these measures to improve ventilation, survey occupants and recheck carbon dioxide levels again to make sure the pollution level is going down.
What causes poor indoor air quality
You can make changes regarding what products are used inside the office or home, and what type and when remodeling occurs. If completing a massive remodeling project where paint, varnish, new carpet, or other chemical-laden materials will be installed, schedule the project when the least number of people will be present in the building.
After making sure to take these precautions, indoor air pollution may still linger. An optimal solution is to pair these measures with the use of high-quality air purification and filtration. Even with extra ventilation and care to use less toxic goods, indoor air pollution can remain. EnviroKlenz offers a line of products that are meant to combat indoor air pollution, whether it's due to chemicals, pollen, dander, biological substances. The EnviroKlenz HVAC Filter for Chemical and VOC Removal is a HEPA filter that can be
The EnviroKlenz HVAC Filter for Chemical and VOC Removal is a filter that can be used in a home's or business existing HVAC system but is far more advanced than a standard HVAC filter which focuses on particulate removal. It uses a proprietary blend of earth mineral technology to not only trap these harmful chemical and malodors but more importantly destructive adsorbs them and breaks them down on a compound level.
For the most thorough air purification, we recommend the EnviroKlenz Mobile system. This product is a portable unit that can cover up to 1000 square feet. What People Are Saying About Us..
First I would like to say never judge a book by its cover. This unit isn't as pretty as other I have owned in the past but boy does it outperform anything I have ever seen. I have debilitating MCS and this unit allows me to get some of the freedom that has been taken away from me in the past like inviting family and friends into my own and opening my windows on pretty days. I know that when it is on that my air is as clean as it can be.
Augusta TorentDecember 1, 2016
We special ordered a machine, and I could tell within a few hours that it was working on that horrid chemical! I was beyond relieved! I now have two machines in the house and am feeling better. EnviroKlenz saved my house but, more importantly, it saved ME!
Karen HarrisDecember 8, 2016
We are loving the new EnviroKlenz pad filter material! I have MCS and we live in a clean-built Airstream. We are using the pad material in the vents of our trailer. Our neighbors use strongly scented laundry detergent that drifts into our home and that had prevented us from being able to open our vents all summer, but now with the filter material in place we are able to have our vents open without any car exhaust, smells from laundry or the dairy farm next door getting through. It's a game changer!
Gerrard AshtonDecember 8, 2016
The EnviroKlenz Air purifier that I purchased arrived sooner than expected and I was pleasantly surprised about how well it was packaged too. Often air purifier comes in many pieces and I feel like I am putting together a puzzle but this system arrived ready to go and I had it up and running in less than 5 minutes. I noticed in a couple of hours how refreshed the air was and I began feeling way better as far as my health goes over time.

We just moved into an apartment that was repainted and had new carpeting installed. Since we were pressed for time and money we place the unit three days before our move in date. We also had an EnviroKlenz HVAC filter as well. I was in tears (literally) when I got to the apartment as the smell of paint and carpet were about 98% gone. I had my neighbor and my husband friend go in to verify that I was not going crazy and that the smell was truly gone.
M. Sundermeyer March 29, 2017
We had our small condo remediated for mold and after the job was done our contractor recommended that I invest in the EnviroKlenz unit to help with some of the smells that I was still reacting too. I have to say that this tiny little unit does quite the work as I thought that I would never be able to live in my condo again. My apartment stunk to high heavens before this air purifier made an appearance. Thank you once again to their amazing team who called me weeks after my purchase to see how I was doing.
J. Trotter March 29, 2017
With the EnviroKlenz air purifier, you can remove allergens and VOCs from your air without emitting back any junk into my air. Carbon has had its time and I have owned nearly every carbon air purifier in existence. The issue that I was having was the constant replacement cost of carbons and it working on some odors and not on others. Now I can use my one little air purifier and not worry about odors hanging around.
Alice S.
We just moved into our dream condo on the 9th floor which we waited for 3 years to get. The problem was that the down stair tenants cook with a massive amount of spices that were entering our home. I had three blue- air purifiers runnings and nothing was helping with removing the curry and onion smells. I read a blog post on how to remove curry smell from EnviroKlenz. I took the chance since it had a 30-day money back guarantee and was floored with how much one unit could do against three other air purifiers. I can now enjoy my condo without the obtrusive cooking smells

Are You Allergic to Your New Home? How To Get Rid of New Construction Odors
Tumblr media
Buying a new home can be a very exhilarating time, especially if it's your first time becoming a homeowner. There will be many things to do and to get used to, once you move into your new house-projects to do, a new routine, new routes to work and school, and getting used to a new neighborhood. One thing many homeowners don't count on, however, is becoming chronically ill once they move in. This condition, unfortunately, happens to many families that move into a new home. Thousands of new homeowners report symptoms like headaches, fatigue, sore throat, itchy eyes, and not feeling well in the weeks and months after they move in.
Any home can contain harmful substances or allergy triggers that can cause allergic reactions in its residents. Cleaning chemicals, hair products, candles, and pet dander are all things commonly found in homes that are known to cause reactions. Also, pollen, dust, and other outdoor pollutants can enter through the doors and windows, and can also cause symptoms. Whether symptoms arise from true allergies, an autoimmune response to an otherwise harmless substance, or chemical sensitivities, a similar response that causes our bodies to overreact to chemicals, they both cause people to feel miserable and sick when the exposure gets to them.
Hazards in the Structure of a New Home
Tumblr media
So, where exactly do these toxins come from your home? From the floor to the ceiling, building and finishing materials, all can contain chemicals that can linger on their surfaces, or become airborne and affect the indoor air quality. Particularly in homes built more recently, materials like carpet, wood varnish, insulation, and paint will off-gas or emits chemicals into the air. At any time, these materials are used or installed, they'll sell off-gas for a higher rate, particularly for the first few months.
Another huge factor of allergy symptoms associated with being in the home is mold. Many people go on for years with unexplainable symptoms that become worse when spending time in their home, and suddenly get better once they go away for a few days. Mold is tricky because it's not always visible. Sufferers may attribute their illness to seasonal allergies or an autoimmune disorder. You can usually find mold in wet places in the home, such as in the bathroom, kitchen, or laundry room. Mold spores are a fungus that needs humidity and warmth to survive, and they usually find those optimal conditions in the dark, hard to see places. It can linger behind bathroom tile, wallpaper, or behind drywall. Once it appears as green, blue, or brown spots on the surface of walls or ceilings, it, unfortunately, may have already spread at alarming levels throughout the house.
Mold exposure can cause anywhere from mild sinus problems to coughing fits, asthma, and respiratory distress. Medical tests have linked it to Parkinson's disease as well as a condition called farmer's lung, in which permanent lung scarring occurs.
When you add the natural toxins present in a modern household to new construction, that can be doubly troubling for someone who already has chemical sensitives or allergies. Even for an otherwise healthy person, the sheer amount and combination of compounds present in a newly built home can cause them to become sick. Millions of dollars are now spent each year on medical treatment to try to abate these symptoms or attempt to diagnose what the problem is. Unfortunately, many sufferers don't realize that their health issues are likely stemming from spending time in their home.
Chemical Odors in a New Home
Tumblr media
When you buy a new home, you may be dealing both with the toxins from personal items you bring into the house and from anything left behind from a previous owner or construction workers. The following are some other harmful substances found in the home that can cause severe allergy symptoms.
Personal care products like hairspray, mousse, perfume, and other sprays or deodorants often contain harmful chemicals or volatile organic compounds (VOC's). While these don't cause actual allergies (an inherited, high immune response), many people are quite sensitive to the chemicals in them and may experience headaches or respiratory problems immediately after use. When used day after day, the effects can multiply. Plastics, used in packaging anything from personal care products to children's toys to food storage, also contain harmful chemicals called phthalates that can make us ill, if we end up ingesting them.
Cleaning products may sanitize our homes and give it a temporary (artificial) fragrance but can do more harm than good. Air fresheners, plug-ins, disinfecting wipes, laundry detergent, and dish soap are just some of the products that often contain odor-masking agents like xylene, which do nothing to get rid of foul smells and rather just cover them up temporarily. These chemicals usually work by actually desensitizing our sense of smell temporarily by numbing the inside of our noses. This scent can cause both acute symptoms and permanent damage if the products are regularly used. Many people report respiratory and sinus problems after having used air fresheners on a regular basis.
Other non-chemical allergens found in homes include pet dander, dust mites, and our by-products like particles of hair and skin. The bedroom of your new home is especially prone to causing allergies. That's where things like dust mites and pet hair can accumulate, particularly on the mattress and linens. Dust mites live off organic substances like our hair and skin flakes. They eat it and then excrete it back onto our mattresses, and they multiply quickly. The buildup of excrement from dust mites can cause symptoms like sneezing and congestion, as it can irritate the lining of our nose and sinuses. You can somewhat prevent dust mites by regular washing of linens, but still may be present in high numbers in the bedroom, if you don't practice proper air filtration.

Our neighbors use strongly scented laundry detergent that drifts into our home and that had prevented us from being able to open our vents all summer, but now with the filter material in place we are able to have our vents open without any car exhaust, smells from laundry or the dairy farm next door getting through. It's a game changer!

What to Do if Your New Home is Making You Sick
Tumblr media
In most modern-day homes, some, if not all, of these hazards are going to be present. Whether you're purchasing an older home or a brand new one, different types and levels of toxins can be lingering both on surfaces and in the air. Fortunately, there are several precautions you can take to lessen their effects and to start feeling better.
In any home, proper ventilation, housekeeping, and maintenance are essential. Ventilation allows the toxic indoor air diluted and lessens the concentration of allergy-causing substances. Housekeeping like frequent washing of linen, or cleaning up bathrooms and kitchens right after use can prevent dust mites and mold. Checking dark places for mold frequently is also a good idea, as it often can build up without anyone noticing. When you move in, it's important to get to know your home and where potential toxins may be hiding, so you can be proactive in preventing and removing them.
EnviroKlenz offers a range of non-toxic and fragrance-free products that can provide a whole-house approach to making sure your home is free of any triggers that could be making you sick. The EnviroKlenz branded product line is a systematic approach for removing chemical odors and malodors from a home's or business surfaces, laundry, and indoor air. The Dangers of Chemical Odors Found in Nail and Hair Salons
Tumblr media
As soon as you walk into a hair or nail salon, you'll almost always notice a characteristic smell. The smell is that of chemicals commonly used in the products that both of these places work with on a daily basis. From the shampoo to the dyes to the nail polish remover and artificial nails, all of these come from chemicals that are largely unregulated. While they may be getting the job done when it comes to your hair or nails, these substances are emitting fumes into the air that can affect the health of both the customers and workers in the salon.
Toxins in Hair Salons-side effects of formaldehyde exposure
Many products used in hair salons contain active chemicals and other dangerous, volatile organic compounds (VOC's) that can make us sick when we get exposed from them. These chemicals can contribute both to relatively minor reactions for those with chemical sensitivities, to life-threatening ones, as many of the classified chemicals used as potential carcinogens. The danger is there for anyone who walks into the salon but amplified for the hairdressers and other workers there who spend the majority of their time around these fumes. Studies have shown that people who work in hair salons have a much greater risk of developing certain diseases and types of cancer. Some diseases prevalent among hairdressers are breast cancer, leukemia, and myeloma.
It's becoming clear that indoor air pollution is a much bigger problem than outdoor air pollution. Even in our homes, the air quality can be up to ten times worse inside than it's in our backyard. This problem is largely in part to the increasing number of chemicals used in the home, whether for cleaning, air freshening, or other purposes. If our homes have gotten that wrong, because of relatively small amounts of chemicals we use, you can imagine the concentration of chemicals and the level of pollution inside salons presents a much more dangerous situation. Just as in our homes, where we have begun to use more potent human-made chemicals, salons are always testing out new products that are supposedly more efficient. The way these chemicals affect us, or how they affect us when they react with each other, has been for the most part untested. Unfortunately, much of the severe damage done by exposure to these chemicals may not present itself until it's too late.
Side Effects of Breathing Ammonia
Tumblr media
Although hairdressers may wear masks, or offer covers to their customers, this precaution is no match for the laundry list of toxins present in nail salons. Common poisonous chemicals found there include ammonia, sodium hydroxide, and even formaldehyde. Phenylenediamine, or PPD, is another chemical that's common in hair dyes that can cause organ damage. Short-term dangers of exposure to all of these chemicals include asthma and allergy-like symptoms like itchy eyes and sore throat. Reactions can be especially severe for those with chemical sensitivities. Over a relatively short amount of time, exposure can also cause reproductive health issues and well as neurological problems. Many people who work in nail salons report frequent headaches, fatigue, and a general feeling of being unwell.
Is nail polish remover toxic?
Nail salons can be just as bad, if not worse, as hair salons when it comes to potential health hazards. Many of the chemicals that are used in nail salons are toxic. These pose a risk for customers who occasionally enter the salon and have their nails done, but is especially dangerous for the employees there who are exposed to the chemicals and fumes day after day. Exposure to airborne toxins and VOC's at all is not good, but the more consistently someone is around them and breathing them in, the greater the chance of having health problems. They have a cumulative effect, and many nail salon workers work 5 or 6 days a week for longer than 8 hours a shift. That's a significant amount of time to be exposed to such a toxic indoor environment, and many suffer the consequences either immediately or later on.
Acrylic Nail Fumes Health Risks
The list of chemicals typically used in nail salons is long, but there are quite a few standard ingredients that you can find in products in the majority of nail salons. Some of the most potent substances are those used to remove nail polish or artificial nails. Nail polish removal contains straight acetone, which can cause immediate headaches, sore throat, itchy eyes, or other allergy symptoms directly upon exposure. Acetonitrile, a relative of acetone, a chemical found in artificial nail glue remover, can cause those same symptoms on top of nausea, fatigue, and respiratory problems. Ethyl acetate and ethyl methacrylate, found in nail polish remover and artificial nail liquid, can cause asthma, skin rashes, and congenital disabilities for those who are around it during pregnancy. Formaldehyde, a known carcinogen, is found in many typical nail polishes and removers. Many other toxins are present in traditional nail salon products and can cause a whole host of health problems similar to these or worse.
Tumblr media
Some states banned some of these chemicals. For example, methyl methacrylate (MMA), which is useful in many artificial nail products, is now not permitted to be employed in Arizona and several other states. Unfortunately, however, many provinces don't have much regulation at all regarding these products. Few studies have been conducted to understand how they affect the body, and those that have done it before, don't look at how the different chemicals present may react with each other. Even if people have known how chemicals react together or what danger they pose, such as is the case with toluene, formaldehyde, and dibutyl phthalate (referred to as the toxic trio), they'te continued to be useful in salons.
Side Effects of Nail Polish Remover
Workers in both hair and nail salons should pay attention to their bodies and report on any new health concerns they believe are being caused by exposure from these chemicals. They should also take the time to educate themselves on what's utilized in the salon by referring to the Safety Data Sheets (SDS) that should be present on site wherever they use these chemicals. This information can be a resource for how to handle exposure to these chemicals and what to do in case of an emergency. Many of these chemicals can cause chronic health problems but can cause life-threating damage if accidentally swallowed or inhaled in high concentrations.
Dangers of Nail Polish
It's clear that toxins aren't leaving hair and nail salons anytime soon, despite the fact that we now know how dangerous many of them can be. Even when toxic chemicals have already been in use for a while at a salon, it's still possible to mitigate and remove them.
As mentioned previously, salons should have a Safety Data Sheet with information about each chemical present. This requirement is for chemicals that contain a hazardous substance at or above 1.0% that can potentially be released into the air. At the very least, salon owners and employees should use these to educate themselves on how to handle the chemicals properly.
As in any indoor environment, ventilation is key to reducing the concentration of toxins present in the air. Ventilation filters the number of toxins present by introducing cleaner outdoor air, and carrying some of the harmful chemicals outside of the building. Opened Windows and doors whenever possible to ensure proper ventilation. The salon should also have an exhaust system which draws out bad air and pushes it out of the salon. Also, whenever possible the salon should be sure to use products that don't mix harmful toxins together, such as the toxic trio. Some products now are being made that are labeled toxic trio free. Products such as these should be a top choice over those that are known to contain hazardous chemical combinations.
How to Remove Harmful Chemicals and VOC's From Nail & Hair Salons
The single best way to remove harmful chemicals and VOC's from salons is through the use of a high-quality air purifier system In cases like salons where the concentration of these substances is exceptionally high, a standard filter in an HVAC system may not get the job done. Many filters merely trap and then recycle harmful chemicals into the air. Most don't do anything to trap and neutralize the chemicals once the filter catches them.
The EnviroKlenz HVAC Filter is a state of the art HVAC filter that fits right into a business existing HVAC system. It uses proprietary earth mineral technology, not only to catch that react to the VOC's that it comes into contact, neutralizes the chemical odors, and removes them from the environment without releasing any chemicals back into the environment. Both Customer & Workers in a salon will benefit from being an environment with less concentration of VOC exposure and will be less suitable to the environmental triggers commonly found in nail and hair salons.
Best Air Purifier for Nail & Hair Salons
Maintaining good indoor air quality can be a challenge, and even more so if you run a business where the clients and staff are working in conditions with chemical based products. Air quality and indoor comfort can be achieved when all the systems and products are working together to achieve the desired outcome.
Our EnviroKlenz Mobile system helps facilities with multiple aspects of air quality. Since air quality really is a function of everything in our environment, our products and systems were designed with that in mind.

6 Harsh Chemicals Found In Your Laundry Detergent & Their Impact on You
Tumblr media
Swoosh- swoosh.
Swoosh- swoosh.
The back and forth of the machine, as it briskly spins the damp clothes around and around. Powerfully it mixes the soapy detergent, engulfing the articles of clothing in its bubbly consistency. Load-after-load the same mundane process in the pursuit of ridding your fabrics of the funky smells of day-to-day activities.
We all have that one preferred laundry detergent that just the aroma alone reminds you of home. I don't know about you but I've always used the same detergent my mom used my whole childhood. Something about that smell just instantly takes me back to my youth and gives me that warm feeling of home. But what if I told you that warm feeling of home that your laundry detergent provides to you also presents you with a potential hazard to your health?
Unfortunately, many brand name laundry detergents contain some scary ingredients that could have an adverse consequence on your overall health.
Frightening, right?
It's scary to think you could be using a product for years that contains hazardous chemicals that may impact your health negatively. Knowledge is power, and by learning the chemicals contained in your detergent and their impact on your health you can better protect yourself from these harsh toxins.
Frightening Hazardous Chemicals In Detergent Brands
Tumblr media
According to studies, one-third of all scented laundry detergents contain at least one chemical flagged by the EPA as hazardous to our health. On average, laundry detergent products release 17 toxins that go unlisted on the label, which can cause skin irritation to potential neurological damage.
You may be thinking wow, is this really true?
Sadly, this is the scary reality of many laundry detergents. There are many different chemicals that may be combined into your detergent, but there are some common toxic chemicals that can be found in most detergent brands.
1.) Fragrances:
One of the main chemicals found in brand detergents is fragrances, that help mask the lingering odors in your fabrics. Are fragrances chemicals though? Surprisingly yes. The smell of home is a combination of chemicals created by detergent makers to give the illusion of clean smelling clothes. When in reality they are just masking the tough odors that are impenetrable to detergent brands. Worst is that because of trade protection, detergent makers do not have to disclose these chemicals in the ingredient list.
2.) 1,4-Dioxane:
Have you ever felt light-headed or dizzy when doing your laundry?
Well if you have this chemical may be the cause to your out of the blue health issues. 1,4- Dioxane inhalation exposure has also caused irritation to the eyes, nose, throat, and lungs in many people.
A test conducted found that the amount of this chemical found in Tide Free & Gentle was 89 parts per million and 63 parts per million in regular Tide. Think of the viable risk exposure to this toxic chemical.
Tumblr media
3.) Stabilizers:
Just like the name alludes to, this chemical helps stabilize the detergent formula so it has a longer shelf life.
In reality though, is a longer shelf life worth the risk to your health?
Absolutely not.
These stabilizers include polyalkylene oxide or ethylene oxide, which has been linked to eye and lung irritation, as well as dermatitis.
4.) Phosphates:
I know you have probably walked past a lake or river and noticed all the algae and pollution residing on the top.
Phosphates, the chemical found in our laundry detergent has been associated with this environmental damage. So not only is this chemical toxic to us as humans but it is also damaging to our environment.
Tumblr media
5.) Fabric Brighteners:
I'm sure you have seen the laundry detergent advertisements for brighter clothes just by using this brand detergent.
So what exactly is behind this miracle brightening product? Chemicals, chemicals, and more chemicals! Naphthotriazolystilbenes, benzoxazolyl, and diaminostilbene just to name a few of the chemicals used to brighten your fabrics.
Even worse, the chemicals stay on your clothes, absorbing UV light to help give it the brighter appearance promised.
6.) Bleach:
Bleach is a common addition to laundry detergent, either in the laundry detergent formula itself or as an added chemical in with your detergent. Bleach is known to have reactive health issues when you come into contact with it. It is known to irritate skin, eyes, and lungs when in contact with this chemicals. Bleach also when combined with wastewater can form a toxic organic compound that has been associated with respiratory issues, kidney, and liver damage.
Tumblr media
Best Laundry Detergent Odor Eliminator
Did you raid your laundry cabinet after reading all of the ominous facts about the chemicals in your laundry detergent? I wouldn't blame you if you did!
We rarely think about the ingredients in our detergent or the effects it can have on our health. Some people though have to be especially conscious when purchasing laundry detergent because they have strong sensitivities to chemicals, but for others, this consideration is taken lightly. Alternatives can be made for those with high sensitivities such as using a natural laundry detergent product with no added fragrance. If however, you have a high tolerance to these strong chemicals it still may be a good idea to consider using a natural laundry detergent, to avoid the harsh chemicals present in brand named detergents. Unfortunately, though even many of these natural laundry detergents still contain odors and fragrances that can leave your sensitivities irritated.
With the EnviroKlenz Laundry Enhancer, you can say goodbye to those lingering pesky odors and fragrances once and for all. EnviroKlenz Laundry Enhancer traps and eliminates the hard to remove odors, alleviating your sensitivities with just one use.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Think about all the chemical smells on your clothes that your laundry detergent leaves behind. Do you really want to walk around with those chemicals on your body? I hope you said no because I sure don't. Protecting yourself from these harsh chemicals is important, and by eliminating the harsh odors you can make your own warm home smell chemical free.
What People Are Saying About Us.
HOLY AWESOME! I love this stuff. I had some towels that got left in the dryer and had that mildewy smell and it came right out. I also have special needs children who have potty issues at night and tend to get that urine smell in the blankets and stuff. And this stuff knocks the smell right out that regular detergents can't do. I am beyond amazed. Really, don't even need a whole lot for a load.
Sam CleatsDecember 8, 2016
This item shipped and arrived quickly as expected. It really seems to get odors out. I don't have a front load wash machine, but I can see why people would want to use it on a regular basis to prevent odors that they can build up.

This item shipped and arrived quickly as expected. It really seems to get odors out. I don't have a front load wash machine, but I can see why people would want to use it on a regular basis to prevent odors that they can build up.

10 Hazardous Items in Your Bedroom Polluting Your Indoor Air
Your bedroom may be a more hazardous place than you think. Find out what in your bedroom could be making you sick without you even realizing.
youtube
The Scary Truth That Lies in Your Bedroom
#1. The Bedding
Our bedding, especially our pillows, can quickly accumulate sweat, saliva, skin flakes, and other bodily excretions, as well as bacteria, mold spores, or dust mites. All of these substances can cause allergy-like symptoms including scratchy eyes, headaches, and sore throat. It is important to change bed sheets regularly, ideally once a week. Also, aim to change pillowcase covers once every few days, and wash pillows once a month if possible. If you have a pillow that can't go in the wash, replace it every 12 months.
#2. The Humidifier
If you've been suffering from symptoms like dry skin, sore throat, or congestion, running a humidifier in your bedroom may be a good idea. Moisture in the air can help relieve many health issues, but can unfortunately also cause some problems if the humidifier is not maintained properly. When not cleaned between each use, mold can build up on the inside of the machine. That mold then gets released into the air when the humidifier runs. Ironically, this can cause many of the same symptoms that humidifiers are meant to relieve in the first place.
#3. Commercial Cleaning Products
Tumblr media
There are more man-made chemicals out there in commercial cleaning products than ever before, and over 6,000 new chemicals are being introduced each year. Many have not been tested for human safety, and a great deal are known to irritate those with chemical sensitivities. Exposure to certain household cleaning products can cause itchy eyes, runny nose, and headaches. It is better to avoid these products, especially in the bedroom, and opt for natural or homemade cleaners instead.
#4. The Vacuum Cleaner
Vacuums are meant to pick up dust, animal hair, and other fine particles. Ironically, many end up pushing all those things back into the air. Non-HEPA vacuums don't have a barrier to hold all the fine particulates and volatile organic particles (VOC's) in, and they just dissipate into the surrounding areas, sometimes in a more concentrated form than they were in the first place. Vacuum cleaners with specially designed HEPA or similar filters work best to minimize this effect.
#5. Carpeting
Carpeting, especially new carpeting, contains a great deal of man-made chemicals. New carpet can off-gas, or emit chemicals into the air, for weeks after it is installed. If not cleaned properly, carpet can also hold on to allergens like pollen, animal fur, or chemicals, as well as harbor insects like fleas or even bed bugs. Carpet is nice but is not the best choice if you are trying to avoid irritants or allergens in the bedroom. Alternative flooring, like hardwood or vinyl, is better.
#6. Candles
Tumblr media
Candles usually contain a host of unnatural chemicals and fragrances. When burned, these chemicals are released into the air, and can really affect those with chemical or fragrance sensitivities. Candles with natural ingredients are better, but you are best off if you avoid candles altogether if trying to maintain a nontoxic bedroom environment.
#7. Indoor plants
Plants can actually be a good thing in the bedroom if they are cared for properly. They can become a problem, however, if maintenance is done incorrectly-if they are overwatered, mold can begin to form on the soil and pot, and be released into the air. For those with respiratory problems like asthma, this can create a real problem. Make sure plants are watered only when the soil is visibly dry.
#8. Cats and Dogs
Tumblr media
Pet hair can aggravate allergies or allergy-like symptoms in many individuals. Even if pet hair doesn't usually bother you, it can create problems if your cat or dog is sharing a bed with you every night. To avoid this problem, dogs and cats should sleep outside of the bedroom, or at the very least, on the floor in a separate area.
#9. The Windows
Studies have shown that in most homes and businesses, indoor air is far worse than outdoor air in terms of pollution-up to 5 times worse! If windows are left closed, they allow the already toxic air inside to recirculate and become more concentrated over time. It is a good idea to leave bedroom windows open often to encourage ventilation and dilution with outside air.
#10. The Mattress
We spent a lot of our lives on a mattress. Mattresses can build up sweat, skin flakes, and other bodily substances. Since mattresses are not easily washed, many people go years without cleaning theirs, and this contamination multiplies. Mattresses are therefore often full of bacteria, allergy-causing dust mites, and other potentially harmful substances. To extend the life of your mattress and counteract this problem, you should use a natural, allergen-free, waterproof mattress cover that you can remove and wash regularly.
Combating Bedroom Toxins
Tumblr media
In each case above, some tips were given on how to combat some of these bedroom toxins. The reality is that some of these toxins are still going to be there, despite taking some of these measures. In addition to taking steps to get rid of some of the sources of what you know could be making you sick, a high-quality air purifying system can alleviate a lot of problems. Even if these substances are still present, an air filtration system that effectively catches many of the chemicals and allergens created by pets, chemicals, etc. can make a big difference.
How to Eliminate VOC's With An Air Purifier
The best air cleaner for this purpose is one with a HEPA filter and a cartridge designed for neutralizing and removing chemical odors and VOC's. Traditional air purifiers focus on particulate removal and do little to no chemical odor removal. The EnviroKlenz Mobile Air System is the best HEPA air cleaner for those with allergies or chemical sensitivities. The Mobile system utilizes HEPA filters combined with its unique VOC cartridges to effectively eliminate chemicals, odors, fragrances, or allergens from the air by not only trapping them but deactivating them. It is perfect for use in the bedroom. With its three settings, you can pick the quiet lower setting for night time, and the medium or high during the day to maximize its effects.

Take a Look at What Others Say About Our EnviroKlenz Mobile System
First I would like to say never judge a book by its cover. This unit isn't as pretty as other I have owned in the past but boy does it outperform anything I have ever seen. I have debilitating MCS and this unit allows me to get some of the freedom that has been taken away from me in the past like inviting family and friends into my own and opening my windows on pretty days. I know that when it is on that my air is as clean as it can be
Augusta Torent December 8, 2016
This unit rockkkkkssss and that is an understatement. We use it daily at our practice and all of our patients compliment on the air quality in our exam rooms. I was once an IQ air gal but have since converted and have recommended this unit to everyone that we can.
Trinity White December 8, 2016
Whether one or all ten of the items on this list are a problem in your bedroom, you deserve a good nights' rest and to feel happy and healthy in your own space. Take these measures to be on your way to a healthier sleep environment.
