Testing rich blacks
I researched different versions of rich blacks to use on my final poster.
The first variation is c=30 m=12 y=0 k=100
The second is c=60 m=40 y=40 k=100
The last is c=40 m=40 y=40 k=100
I am going to use the first rich black as ai think it鈥檚 the deepest of the three

poster development from feedback
I altered some small details in response to my feedback session.
I created a rich black for my type to insure the type pops and has a bold effect once printed. I also slightly deepened my pink colour for the type "fully immersed."
I added an subtle cream colour background as the white looked too stark.

adding motion to poster design
for this motion design I wanted my type to create different patterns like one art piece as all the different individual artworks in the gallery share new perspectives and ideas and we are able to connect with the artist through their work and when they all come together, the art gallery is created a place to experience connection and creativity a cohesive inspiring place.
I drew up two patterns which I wanted to move my type to create. To to this I went back and forth between my animation and sketch rotating each type to be at the right angle to create these patterns.
I chose to make my video into a loop to keep a clean, smooth and cohesive feel which I think represents the atmosphere of the Gallery.
I think some of the words are not rotated at the correct angle and look a bit unfinished, so if I develop this motion design I would go back and refine these.

Adding motion to my poster
from my feedback it was suggested that I randomly reveal rows instead of one after the other, like I did in one of my previous motions.
I feel like the motion could be slower as it feels too rushed which is not the feeling of the Auckland Art Gallery.
I think the random reveal looks better than the previous motion design but I still prefer the motion design where the type is revealed in box shapes. I think the timing is more consistent in this design which is an improvement from the previous design but is still too fast.

Poster development
I thought I would try some more colour options with my developed poster.
I tried different colours for the text "fully immersed" and I think the most effective ones are the green, orange and red as they stand out against the black where the deep blue/purple feels too similar. Overall I don't feel like these colours are particularly more effective than the pink I have used previously.
I tried making the text "vision" in colour as I felt like it could look effective and the text "fully immersed" still stand out due to the increased negative space. I do think this works and helps communicate my idea of connecting with artists through experiencing their artistic vision, and I feel like colour is a good way to express and communicate creativity.
Overall I am interested to hear what my peers and lecturer have to say in the next feedback session as I am undecided about colour choice.

Poster development after feedback
a suggestion made from my feedback session, was that I could try deleting the first box around "fully immersed" as it looked effective in a freeze frame in one of my motion designs.
I like that this creates some negative space and almost creates a frame around "fully immersed" like a piece of art you would see in the gallery.
I tried three different type sizes as I thought I could now increase the scale as its around larger space. I think all three sizes work but I prefer the middle size the best as it helps to slightly stand out among the other type

Adding motion to one of my posters
for this motion I revealed the type inwards to direct the eye inwards to the type "fully immersed" and create a loop as it was a suggesting from my feedback.
I like this motion design the most as it directs the eye to where I intend and the angle of the type helps the motion added as it goes in the same direction.
I want to explore how I can make this cleaner and add more visual interest.
I tried to increase the speed of the reveal as it disappears but it doesn't feel very smooth as it begins slower and then picks up the pace.

Adding motion to a poster
through my feedback session it was suggested that I try revealing each word in rows to create visual interest.
This was challenging to do as the text box with "fully immersed" is not centred so trying to determine each angled row was hard.
The motion starts off well but begins to get unclean as there are no clear rows in some areas making the overall motion seem unsatisfying and chaotic.
this motion communicated the same idea and the poster that once you enter the Auckland Art Gallery you begin to connect with artists and their work one by one experiencing their creative vision which builds as you continue exploring the gallery.

adding motion to a poster
Through my feedback, the suggestion was to reverse the motion to my last motion design to direct the eye to "fully immersed"
I created this motion in more of a boxy transition instead of the previous motion which was more random or organic.
I created a loop by removing the rows again which was a suggestion from my feedback.
I like how this motion turned out but I only made it 5 seconds so could have repeated the motion again, or made the current motion take longer.
I want to try doing this motion directing the eye to "fully immersed" again but more organically like done in the last design.
my idea for this motion was that when you enter the Auckland Art Gallery and begin looking at the artwork you start to connect with artists as you begin to see the vision they intend to communicate with the viewer and you keep gaining these artistic visions until you are fully surrounded by them.

Poster development
through the feedback session we noticed the two rows of "vision" under "fully immersed" didn't look right as the angles didn't feel right and the relationship between the two rows looked off.
To fix this problem I worked on the angles of one of these rows then duplicated and flipped this row to insure it was clean and looks united. I then altered the rest of the text boxes and centred them in a grid as when i scaled them up some of the text shifted and looked unclean.
overall I like both these posters but may prefer the one where the angle was added to the straight row as it feels more cohesive making the poster look complete.

I tried a few more poster ideas to remove the row of straight "vision"
I tried deleting the row of straight "vision" and brought the top two rows down angling the type towards "fully immersed" but the spacing doesn't look right as it feels too big.
I tried angling the straight row of "vision" slightly to create more negative space in between the words and I think this looks the best as it follows the same flow as the rest of the type.

Poster Development
through the feedback we thought the row on "vision" that is straight as it's in line with "fully immersed" didn't look right as it is the only row with straight type.
My lecturer suggested utilizing this row by putting "The Auckland Art Gallery" on this row.
I tried various type weights and colours to see which looks right. I don't think the bold type looks right as it feels like it's too bold and takes attention away from "fully immersed" and I don't mind the blue poster with the two tones as the light type is secondary to the darker blue. Out of all the options I prefer the type with the lightest weight as I feel it's enough contrast and stands out due to the differing weights.
overall I don't like this concept as much as I feel it breaks up the overall composition of the poster and doesn't feel as cohesive as the previous version.

From the suggestion of my feedback I deleted one row and enlarged the rest of the type. I think this is a small but helpful improvement as it just slightly enlarges the poster but is still impactful.

adding motion to one of my posters
for this animation I thought about adding a gradient effect, which I experimented with in my poster explorations for this week but thought I would try doing this with motion.
I thought this idea of slowly revealing and expanding the body sea of type, communicates my site and how when you enter the gallery you start seeing and experiencing so many different artists vision and these encounters build and create the connection between the viewer and the art.
I am unsure how I feel about how the timing of each "vision" appearing starts to slow down over the duration. It adds something interesting as it slows down towards the end but I feel like there are strange moments where there isn't any movement happening in the animation making parts of it feel a bit robotic and not organic.

adding motion to one of my posters
for this animation I decided to use the motion of the type to direct the eye to the pink type by creating random movement which then settles and points to the pink type.
This motion also make me think of how each art piece you see at the gallery have a different vision but they all come together to create the over all creative environment of the art gallery, just like the type settles and unites as they all point to the same element.
I like the satisfying effect this movement creates but I feel like it's too slow or could use some variety in timing to create more interest.

Poster design
I felt like the previous posters layout didn't look clean as the some of the words look miss aligned our out of place, so I realigned the words using a more refined grid and angled each letter to point to the centre of the phrase "Fully immersed."
I think this is a small change which makes the poster feel more uniformed and united.

Poster development
through the suggestions from my feedback session I have explored some different colour options. Because I tried a warmer pink tone I thought I would try some colour tones too.
I experimented with adding colour to the background and having white and lighter shades of type. I think this has a nice bold look to it and the type still stands out but not as much as the pink type in previous poster ideas. I think i may prefer the coloured type instead of the coloured background as I feel this helps communicate my site better as the type holds shape colour and meaning, representing artistic vision seen in the Auckland art gallery.
I tried a lighter colour for the type to create a more subtle look to help direct the eye to the black type first then the colour but I feel like the pink type has a boldness that the Auckland art gallery also holds so I think I prefer that.
