Nightmare wasn’t at all expecting Dust to confess to him on a random afternoon, and it was odd that Nightmare couldn’t sense it coming. He didn’t believe he harbored the same feelings for Dust, even if he cared deeply for the other. He didn’t think he was ready to date someone so suddenly… So why did he say yes?

And then shenanigans ensue. Shenanigans that might include unpacking your childhood trauma. And also identity crises, it turns out. Maybe more.

Just a little drabble between a semi rare pair that isn't a full poly.

He never liked it when it snowed. It was never snow to him. Not anymore. It looked grey and flakey, not the beautiful frozen ice in different shapes. He took a puff of his cig as he sat on the balcony railing like a cat, watching the snow fall around him.

Grey, dirty, the smell of magic burning as the fake snow fell around him. Dust... So much that it replaced the snow of the Underground when it would fall. He could smell, taste, and feel the dust everywhere around him. Even now, it was the same, even if logically he knew it was snowing. He didn't even feel cold from it. Another puff that goes through the phantom that was always there, staring at him, but he didn't pay the other much mind anymore. He reached out with his tongue and tasted the dust that hit it.

"Dust..." A voice called out. "You are gonna catch a cold if you stay out here much longer." A shadow came beside him and wrapped a tentacle around his shoulder.

"I don't feel cold," Dust replied, giving his boss, his savior, a bored look. He already felt his negativity being drained by the other once he was touched.

"Ah, so why are you shaking and cold to the touch?" Nightmare asked as he pulled the other off the ledge and put out the cig to throw it off the balcony.

Dust didn't notice that he was cold or shaking, even in his boss's arms as more of his LV was drained from him. He sighed as he closed his eyes. "Probably because I don't see the snow. It's all grey for me."

Nightmare hummed at that as he took the other to his personal room and changed him into more comfy clothes. He was the only one allowed to see Dust without his hood. He tucked him into the warm covers of the weighted blanket he had for him. "Flashbacks?"

Dust shook his head. "No. I don't see myself there. Just... The snow is never snow for me anymore," he said as he sighed at the warmth that was now filling his body and snuggled under the weight. Nightmare gave him gentle pets with his fingers as he finished draining the other.

"You just remember the dust," Nightmare said. It wasn't a question. Dust nodded.

"Feels, taste, and see it as so," Dust said. Nightmare wrapped his tendril around him to hold him close.

"Maybe we should visit Sci again and see if there is anything to help. It might be a part of your schizophrenia," Nightmare said. "The current meds might not be helping fully."

"I mean... I've been having trouble eating again," Dust admitted.

"You should have told me. How are you hiding that from Horror?"

"Hide my food in my inventory as I eat and give it to the animals later," he admitted. Nightmare sighs at him.

"No more hiding and switch back to the shakes for now you. I won't have you starving on my watch and Horror will get at you," Nightmare said as he poked him.

"Yeah yeah..." Dust huffed.

"Don't sass your boss."

Dust huffed more as he buried his head into Nightmare's chest. "Why me?"

Nightmare hummed at the question. "In what way?"

"All ways?"

Nightmare chuckled as he kissed him. "Well, I found you because you were full of pain and hurt. I didn't want to leave you to die even if you took out a chunk of my ribs and two tendrils. So I took you in as one of my minions. At least you didn't act like Killer." He kissed him again.

"As for loving you? Well, I feel we both melted each other's SOUL together,' he said as he cuddled him tight. "My little cuddle buddy that doesn't mind the coldness that I am. The one who watches in silence and protects me without others realizing it. My beautiful cute dust bunny that looks so cute just for me in the clothes I have for you. That looks pretty in skirts and lingerie that only I get to see," he purred.

Dust blushed his two tone blush as he nuzzled his mate. "You are my savior. My light in the darkness. The one that chases away my nightmares despite being one himself. I love you Nighty."

"I love you too Dust. Now sleep and recover. That draining always makes you sleepy," he chuckled. Dust closed his eyes for a dreamless sleep.
