“Is it not obvious? Am I doing something wrong?”

You look over at an exasperated Haku, the tired smile on his face a cause for concern. You’re not used to him looking this weary, not even when Hotarubi gets a little too chaotic or when missions get tough.

Then again, usually there are other people around in those instances. Maybe Haku is allowing himself to be more vulnerable because it’s you?

Ha. Of course not.

“Is something bothering you, Haku?” you ask, snapping your textbook shut, “We can talk about it.”

“Actually, yeah,” he sighs, stretching his arms above him and tucking them behind his head, “I want to know what you think of me, you know?”

You tilt your head at the odd question, bringing a finger to your lips. Haku’s eyes dart to your mouth, and you chalk it up to him being drawn to your sudden movement.

“Well, I think you’re a massive flirt. And you take things way too far with it,” you point out, not missing the way Haku places a hand over his heart dramatically, “But you’re also very smart and kind. You’re dependable, perspective, and strong. I like going on missions with you because I know that everything will turn out okay.”

You have flashbacks to Frostheim’s destroyed building, Sinostra’s huge detonation, and Vagastrom’s prison riot. Nothing like that has ever happened when you’ve been with Hotarubi.

Or, more specifically, Haku.

“Does that mean you enjoy spending time with me?” he presses, a teasing lint to his voice.

“I do. Thought that was obvious,” you laugh, and Haku straightens up immediately.

It was absolutely not obvious. Not at all.

“So...if I were to ask you on a date, what would you say?” he leans closer, giving you his best smoldering stare, and then—

You frown.

“Haku, I told you, it’s not funny to joke around like that. You’re gonna give someone the wrong idea.” you huff, opening your textbook again.

—he bonks his forehead on the table.

Shot down again.

I read this post by @danieyells about Subaru and Ren bonding/clashing over their horror movie tastes, and it got me thinking about how they're actually kind of similar characters, but in opposite directions.

Ren sees himself as a regular person surrounded by freaks. Subaru sees himself as a freak surrounded by regular people.

Ren clings to normalcy as a way to distinguish himself from the other students at Darkwick. Subaru wears the guise of normalcy as camouflage.

Ren wants to go unnoticed in the background, but is constantly forced out into the open for various reasons. Subaru is always aware of the spotlight on him, so he maintains a perfectly polite persona that allows him to step offstage unseen.

They're like two sides of the same coin: the NPC versus the Leading Actor. There's a certain level of overcompensation they both exhibit that comes from the desire to hide: Subaru from the condemnation of others, and Ren quite literally from anything bothersome and/or dangerous.

hello tokyo debunker fandom, i rise from the dead to let you all know that i’ve finally read episodes 12 & 13 and i’m working on 14 right now 🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️

particularly i come to talk about a particular moment in episode 13. photo under the cut, but this scene means the world to me. i haven’t been keeping up as much as i should, so im not privy to the fandom consensus, but i AM going to take this as canonical proof of The Vines(tm) being an eventuality rather then an angsty hc.

also, i’m just always happy to see even more MC. i love her she looked SO good in her dress at the masquerade and her hampster outfit at the farm was also super cute

has anyone identified the type of flowers and other flora that makes up kyklos yet? i typically default to roses or whatever i think would be funniest, but the flower on her head is decidedly un-rose-like

all in all it’s safe to say that we are SO back (after this week, i have two exams)
