Cross-Cultural Tourism: Hawaii VS. Mexico

First of all, Mexico is much more reasonably priced than Hawaii. In addition, when looking for a place to stay in Mexico, one can find accommodation rates which range from very cheap to very expensive. This allows one to choose exactly the quality he or she is looking for and the price range one is willing to pay. In Hawaii, on the other hand, one is confined to a rather high price range in accommodation rates in general. This limits accommodation options. When it comes to buying food, Mexico is known for inexpensive, locally-made products. The same cannot be said in Hawaii, where everything with the exception of pineapple and certain other local food items must be brought into the islands from the American mainland at great cost. As a result, the Canadian dollar goes much further in Mexico than it does in Hawaii.

Safety issues can greatly affect how much one will enjoy one’s holiday. Being constantly concerned with personal safety can dampen the enjoyment of any activity. Recently, safety issues in Mexico have been in Canadian news. Robberies, muggings, even murders have taken place in the past few years. In fact, building safety is a question at several resorts on the east coast of Mexico. All of this can contribute to a less enjoyable holiday for a family. However, one seldom hears about tourist issues in Hawaii. Perhaps policing is more stringent in Hawaii than in Mexico. 

One of the principal reasons people travel is to experience change through cultural differences. Since Hawaii is located in the United States, it has a culture much like our own. When one is in Mexico, however, one experiences many cultural differences. The most obvious different cultural in Mexico is the language. When visiting, one is able to practice, learn and appreciate Spanish. Where in, the principle language in Hawaii is English. Shopping, eating out and other activities are carried out in the same language as we speak in Canada. For some tourists who do not want to experience cultural differences, this makes the vacation easier and more comfortable. However, for others for whom culture is important, this makes the vacation much more boring.  In Mexico, one can also enjoy cultural differences when eating because Mexican food and cooking styles allow one to try new types of food. However, in  Hawaii, much food and restaurants are the same as in British Columbia. Travelling to Mexico can also allow one to enjoy the cultural experience that comes with local music and many different festivals.

Personal opinion: In my own opinion, in order to ensure an enjoyable vacation, one needs to consider the overall price of the trip, the safety of the family and the cultural experience desired. Taking all these points into consideration, the trip planner should be able to select the optimum location for a vacation.

Landscape Feature: The Great Blue Hole, Belize

The Great Blue Hole is called a diver’s paradise. This is a giant marine sinkhole that is located next to Lighthouse Reef, about 70 kilometres off the coast of Belize, and this is part of the Belize Barrier Reef Reserve System that was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996. This lies near the center of Lighthouse Reef, a small atoll 70 km from the mainland and Belize City. It is a circular shape, 320 m across and 125 m deep. Divers found Huge stalactites and stalagmites are found in the hole, which contains records of past climates. In about 150,000 years ago was originally started a limestone cave. the water level rose as the glacial period ended and the caves were flooded and its roof collapsed, thus forming this unique hole. Jacques-Yves Cousteau is the one who made the hole popular as one of the top ten dive sites in the world.  

This makes me interesting because of the colour and how it looks. It attracts my eye when I first saw it, even though it’s just a picture. The Blue Hole is well known among the world of recreational diving enthusiasts, for whom this place has them all: clear waters and a variety of flora and fauna as you can meet here nurse sharks, Caribbean reef sharks and bull sharks. But if diving is not for you, you can also snorkel for a full day around the hole and nearby.

There’s also small islands or cays nearby that offer pristine beaches and affordable meals like:

The most notable is Ambergris, which lies just off of Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, to the north of the Great Blue Hole

Personal Opinion: I recommend this place to visit. It's worth it to spend money and relax.

Tourism Trends:  Virtual reality (VR)

What is VR means and how does it work? Does this help the tourism industry? Is there any important key to maintain and help the industry?

VR or what we call Virtual Reality is one of the technology trends that we have nowadays. This kind of technology became popular and helps the tourism industry because it offers a lot of opportunities for the industry. Virtual Reality is an example of a technology with high-end entertainment applications, some of them combining physical elements like controllers or movable seating and platforms. The first Virtual Reality was created in the year 1968 by American computer scientist Ivan Sutherland and his student, Bob Sproull. Virtual reality goggles are created for people to experience the 3-dimensional videos.

And now it can also be used in the tourism industry where tourist can experience their destination without having to be there. Virtual Reality helps the industry to expand the business and give them a new experience, and give the travellers some idea of the destination. VR can also allow tourists to “visit” destination that are too fragile for physical tours, such as archeological sites: structures can be recreated in VR and tourists can enjoy the experience of walking around them unimpeded. Virtual Reality is important to the industry because is about putting people inside virtual environments and those environments. It also important because can be used for training and teaching. It’s important too because it can entertain guests. Also can be more collaborative and social. 

Personal Opinion: For me, Virtual Reality is good for the industry and because nowadays people love to use technology, everyone use technology, so for my own opinion travellers will enjoy having this kind of technology. And I this will continue to grow and continue to be a trend for the tourism industry.

Social media is one of the biggest networking in the world that lots of people use this for different purposes in their lives. Social media has positive and negative impacts on the people, it may affect the brain, and but social media also helps us to relax and we can learn a lot from social media.

Based on my own opinion and some research, social media helps tourism by promoting and endorsing the best way to travel or getting a good deal.  It also helps those travel agencies to find applicant and getting their business to become more known across the world. Social sites to research trips, make informed decisions about their travels and share their personal experiences of a particular hotel, restaurant or airline.

Social media also gives benefits to tourism, it gives the audience to have a wider knowledge and wider view to reach, it means each social media helps the tourism industry as well as the social media industry because they give each other a benefit. For example, facebook, google, Instagram, Twitter and others will post a simple photo or any description of the destination will help the travellers and this may help in another side by liking sharing on what they posted.

Social media is one of the travel agencies strategies to sell the destination for the tourist. They also use this to communicate and to interact with the people that travel around the world. Social media is very important, Social media continues to impact communication either positively or negatively depending on the subjects under study and the type of communication. International Destination Branding and Marketing (Tourism Australia)

Why do you think branding logo is very important in tourism marketing? Are there any rules and guides for each branding logo? Each logo has a message for the tourist. Destination branding and marketing logo are very important for the tourist to know more about the destination, what do tourist expect on the destination, and also it helps the company to have more people to visit their country and also helps them to make their place more popular and known by people around the world.

The Tourism Australian logo helps them to identify the Official Government destination Authority. The brand logo is inspired by the land of Australia that makes the dream of the tourist and embraces the adventure that they in their place. They also have their original brand statement which is “Easy going, straight-talking Australian people combined with Australia’s vast natural landscape make Australia not just a unique holiday destination but an exhilarating one.”, it means they have a unique tourist spot, they can go along easily with Australian people. They also put their personality and characteristics that they have, which is they are irrelevant, welcoming, high spirited and most especially they are down to earth. The message of this is for the transformation, nature, adventure, immersion and the welcoming of the guess.

For the logo, Tourism Australia has its own logo variations, rules and usages, that make them unique and different from others. Tourism Australia has different styles, which is landscape and portrait and configuration, which is stacked and landscape. All Tourism Australia logos are available in full colour and one colour in the two configurations.

For Logo Variation there are four types: The full-colour logo should be used against white backgrounds only. A keyline version has been created for use on background content. The full-colour keyline logo should be used against on a light colour. The key line reverse logo should be used against the dark colour. The mono version of the logo comes in two versions, Mono (black) and Mono reverse (white).

One colour positive logo should be used wherever reproduction methods are restricted to one or two colours. One colour reverse logo should be used when you have a solid colour background.

For the rules they have two types: Clear space is the minimum area surrounding the logo which must remain clear of any other visual elements or text. Each of the logo configurations uses the cap height measurement to determine its clear space. Where possible, create more clear space than the minimum requirements, but never less. Minimum size specifications ensure that the logo remains clearly legible in all applications and all methods of reproduction. Each of the full-colour logo configurations has a minimum size of 15mm/ 70px for both stacked and landscape.

Innovation Transportation - Elon Musk’s Hyperloop

Technology is part of our lives. Nowadays, people have been struggling with commuting through cars, buses and secondary transit (e.g., Uber, Lyft, and Taxis), especially trains which is one of the busiest transit in the world, because most of the people choose to use the trains. There are lots of advantages and disadvantages of commuting but is there any transit that helps people get into their workplace, school, etc., faster than what we have today?

Both an inventor and a creator, Elon Musk invented a new custom train called “Hyperloop”. This Hyperloop has a magnetic track that makes it levitate to decrease friction, and it is in a tunnel with a low-pressure tube. It is estimated to propel vehicles at proposed speeds of up to 1,100 km/h (700 mp/h) that can bring you to Los Angeles to San Francisco in less than 30 minutes - 354-miles journey. Hyperloop has been in development since 2013. Many people said it was just a billionaire’s dream. That it would never happen. But for Elon Musk, it was the future of transportation. The capsule is 105 feet long, weighs five tons and is designed to fit 28 to 40 passengers. This is also the first open-source vactrain design by Tesla and SpaceX team.

I think that the Hyperloop is a fantastic idea in the future for the commuters and it can definitely reduce the hours of travelling for people that have never thought of this invention and now all because of Elon Musk, our future is expanding and becoming more efficient and more convenient for people that use it. I also believe that this kind of transportation is not a billionaire’s dream but this can be invented by anyone. I would like to recommend the Hyperloop in Vancouver, British Columbia because it is easier and faster to move around town and it will be a great help for students to commute.
