VIRTUAL CONCLUSIONS
One thing that I learned is that virtual communication is much easier for people to create. People are much more comfortable when it’s virtual and not in person so they have more time to mediate there responses or answers. I also believe that people are using virtual types of communication because it’s a change that is happening with the advancement of technology. I also think that this is also changing peoples perceptions on reality. I think that people have come too comfortable with using virtual communication and I think it’s lacks the personal in person connections which that brings you.
Considering that I’m much of a technology or virtual world user i would say that I didn’t have the best experiences. When I was younger I would struggle with using technology but growing older I got much better. This also doesn’t mean I like it I still don’t find it interesting really at all. I’ve just always been an outside person.

VIRTUAL VS REAL
I would say that my identity is the same when I’m virtual or in real life. I think that virtual gives everyone much more leeway so people are more out of their comfort zone. I would say that people tend to have more anxiety when things are your real world identity. I believe that when someone has a virtual identity this gives them more time to formulate what they are doing. This could go for anything like awnser ring questions or sharing interest.
Another difference I would say would have to be how people vary themselves. I don’t think my identity changes but I do believe most peoples does. Overall I would say that most peoples changes for the worst.

VIRTUAL WOLRD CONTINUED
After traveling around second life I was not amused after about an hour. I think this is becuause the lack of up to date graphics and the movements of the players. It sort of made me mad that a game had been in production for so long and not many improvements have been made. I feel as if it’s competition has blown it out of the water.
Next I’ll be talking about some of my experiences in the virtual world through video games. Some of the games I used to play include GTA, Black ops and other ones like skate 3. Starting off with Gta This game is a very open platform to which you can basically do anything you want. Most people choose a life of crime just because that’s what you can do online with out getting in trouble.
The next game I played was black ops. Which is basically a first person shooter game. I would say playing this game definitely toughen up my skin because people are pretty mean. This taught me how to communicate over a virtual platform while also dealing with some pretty horrible people.
The final game I played which would be probably my most favorite is skate 3. This game drives your imagination by being able to create skateparks with your friends. It’s good because it lets everyone have this experience. But like every game there is some bad people but I believe this is what comes with the freedom of playing on these virtual platforms

SECOND LIFE
I would have to say that my experiences with second life were actually very interesting. Starting off I would say unless it’s a class or I’m forced too this is not an app I would use on an everyday basis. It’s actually kind of gave me weird feelings knowing that’s some people rely on these virtual worlds as a whole. It’s made me feel like platforms like these are disconnecting people from the real world. That was just my first initial thought when entering he platform.
As far as the technology part of it I thought second life was very out of date. The movements of your character were off as well as the graphics which were added. Although there is a lot to do witting the virtual space I found it somewhat hard to navigate. There were tons of places to visit and people to talk to but now real path or setting to follow. This sort of forced me to explore to which I found myself falling off the map.
Following this I had started to travel all different places within the space. I went to meets ton of new people and find new places. One thing I did finally find was that people were being vulgar in the space. It was hidden within their messages but being young and hip I could understand them. I think it being a virtual platform gives people the confidence and freedoms to say whatever they please.

NETWORKS
I would say that I am apart of a ton of different types of networks. When I think about it most of them come from my personal interest. For example I’m connect to people virtually and physically through things like similar interest in sports teams and other types of hobbies. That’s actually how I would say I made most of my friends would be through similar interest. This could mean anything from sports to surfing. I would say that this makes my connections with these people very strong. It’s something the genuinely makes me happy on a daily basis and I truest depend on it.
Another connections that I’ve made would have been with my family. Even if there is no common interest this is still a connection I will always have regardless. Maybe it’s because I’m forced but at this point who really knows.

REAL VS. VIRTUAL
I would say that there is no difference between my real and virtual identity. Most of the social media platforms I use are for comedy and entertainment which I feel fits my identity. I’m someone who likes to joke and around and have fun keeping things light.
If I had to find a difference I would say that it would be my approach to how I communicate. Virtually I would say I’m very straight forward with my point. Even if I don’t personally know them I’m still now hesitant to get my point across. But this may differ when it’s real and I’m communicating face to face. I feel I’m very laid back and this makes me hesitant when communicating. I’d always prefer to find a happy medium.

SPRING CLASS
I would say that there weren’t any differences in how I identified. I think the platform that we were using changed but I think the way I communicated with my class mates was relatively the same. I would say that we are a group as a class. But I really don’t think that the platform we are using has I influenced how I communicate. I think on both virtual and in person platform my communication is pretty similar on both platforms. I also this that there is no difference in language I think that my use of language is that same on all platforms I use. Whether this is in person, email or over the phone I feel I stay the same.

VIRTUAL IMPRESSIONS
Hello, I would have to say some initial impressions I made about my classmates were very unexpected. I think I’ve found out we all have a ton in common and seems like we all go through similar things. I thought it was very interesting to see how people feel while use certain vrs and social media. Another thing I’ve learned is that it seems like everyone keeps to themselves for the most part but when they do have information to provide its rather good. This leads into another example that gives me the impression all of my classmates are open to learning and discovering new ideas. I see this through the comments left on the blogs you can see the pure level of interest and enthusiasm. Based off this class all the classmates I’ve never met seem extremely nice. Everyone is very caring and open to your ideas. Many classmates have made very valuable connections to some of my assignments which I found really amazing.

GETTING CLOSER
Yes I would say I have used social media to get closer with friends. I would say that these relationships always developed through mutual friends. For example some of my friends went to school down south and my only way of keeping in contact with him was through social media. When I did have the chance to visit him and meet some of his friends I was able to develop relationships with them as well. Now after maintaing these mutual friendships I know they developed mostly over social media. Some things I’ve used to enhance these relationships would be zoom or these new apps which you can watch movies with people who are far distances away. This still gives you the sense your watching it with them which is awesome to me.

RESEARCH TOPIC
The first topic I think I would be very interested in would be the effects of virtual reality. Basically saying does virtual reality have negative affects on people physically and mentally. I think this could be a good topic becuause all of these virtual reality products are fairly new. This would help me develop a sense of how virtual reality has changed and some of the things people have faced. Some more examples I could use would be how it affects the development off brain. This would give me an opportunity to talk about the younger generation and the development of their actions regarding a virtual reality world. I’ll also be able to research how these virtual reality’s and transfering to peoples actions in the real world. Overall I think this topic would be very interesting and informational. It can give people a good idea if these games are actually harming our younger generation.

SOCIAL MEDIA FRIENDS
As far as friendships I think social media has been one of the driving forces behind that when I was in college. This was a way of meeting new people to hang out with considering we were all new to the common area. Some of my best friends I made in college came through Instagram. This social media app allowed me to look at peoples post and develop an idea of what they might be interested in. It was a good way to find people with similar interests as me as well as mutual friends.
I would say maintaining relationships over social media has been a huge portion of my life. Especially with all of my highschool friends who have moved all over the country. For example my best friend is now playing baseball at the university of Cincinnati which is hours away from me. He’s constantly busy and never has time to come home so the only way to maintain such a strong friendship was through social media. Whether it’s his personal account or the team account I have the ability to see what’s going on during his life on the outside in.
Personally I’ve never ended a relationship over social media. This has always been something I feel needs to be done in person. Relationships and friends are very valuable and I feel social media has taught me this.

THE PAST 2 YEARS
I would have to say over the past 2 years my communication skills have improved immensely. I think this because during this time I started taking higher level communication classes which resulted in much harder work. This means longer presentations and countless speeches. During my time working through these I believe I’ve elevated my skills through pure experience.
Some skills I really think that I fine tuned would have to be my ability to listen and comprehend. Not only was I giving these speeches but I was also learning and listening from some of my classmates. After listing to so many and really focusing i think this time really tuned my listening skills. Finally I think that over time these classes have also enhanced my problem solving skills. Before all of these presentations I would have always took the easy road out and not done my best work. But as I got older I started to take pride in the things I’ve done and as a result I’ve gotten better. I would start to solve problems more creative and thoughtful in order to develop the best outcome. Overall I think before college I seriously lacked communication skills but after I would have to say I’m on my way to becoming fairly good.

MEDIA RICHNESS
Media richness is actually much more simple than people really think. It’s basically just the exchange of information between one and another. So when it’s done virtually emotion is not something that people can pick up. This is why some virtual aspects of communication can lack this certain richness.
In my use of social media I do all sorts of things that can emphasize the media richness. I see a ton of it on my Instagram account as well as my twitter account. On my Instagram most of my close friends are my followers and my ways of increasing media richness is by posting things that my followers will enjoy. This includes pictures of me surfing and with my friends this draws attention for the people that are interested in what I’ve been up to. As far as Twitter this is a space where I like to have fun so posting contreversal things is what raises the awareness. Sometimes people with a similar humor standpoint will find tweets funny while others may find them offending. It’s all about how you take it.
I think covid had a massive effect on media richness because people were now forced to use it. Stuck inside all day there are only so many things beyond social media that can keep you entertained. Another thing my family did was what we called “family zoom time” to which all my family would get on a zoom call. Considering the circumstances I believe this really improved all of our media richness tendencies.

VIRTUAL COMMUNICATION SKILLS
I would say over the course of college I have developed a ver well rounded sense of virtual communication skills. Not only because I believe that this generation thrives on technology but also because of some uncontrollable circumstances. One of these would be covid 19. During this time period all schooling was virtual. This means lectures, tests, and all basic assignments. During this time period I developed better skills using all sorts of different platforms. Some of those include zoom, google sheets/docs, as well as many others.
Some other skills I feel I developed are the ability to work with others in teams over virtual communication. It was hard at first but considering everyone was relatively new to it we all tackled it together. So I would say I not only learned how to navigation technology that has to do with communication better. But also developed better structure when working over a virtual platform.

Benefits By Rice
After Reading and digesting some of Rice’s thoughts I’ve came to the conclusion that their are benefits to isolation in today’s society. But with benefits they must come at a cost and that cost would be loneliness or what could feel like disconnection. If you are something who is willing to deal or wants these types of things then you win the ultimate goal of privacy. The world we live in today is run by technology while recording and analyzing everything we do. This tends to scare some people including myself considering privacy is so huge to me. Privacy is used to protect your individuality and with out it people would fall in the same patterns. Isolation seems like a bad things until you realize it’s makes you learn and process more about yourself.
The only time I feel like I found myself isolated would have to be during the Covid 19 outbreaks. I had only tested positive once but had to quarentine multiple times due to close interactions. During these times I felt it hurt me more than it benefited me. Being in a college atmosphere I feel we are stressed and rely on human interaction as a way to release. One benefit I did feel was feeling less stressed. Being by myself and isolated I felt at peace. There was no distractions which I found very soothing.
My thought one isolation vs. community I feel will always vary. Personally I think it’s all depending on the person. Some people love the attention and constant human interaction while others don’t. Everyone is different and it’s all about finding what fits you the best.

Hello classmates!
My name is Jack Honeycutt and I am a senior at Salisbury University. My major is communications aligned with a sociology minor. Unfortunately I’ve had a good amount of experience with online courses consider the past couple years. Fortunately I will be graduating in July which I am overly excited about. Somethings that interest me include basically any sort of professional sport. You name it I probably watch it ranging from hockey to football. I enjoy spending time with friends especially surfing. It’s something that is therapeutic to me. As far as after college I plan to work in logistics for a sales company in Charleston. Hopefully this works out!
I’m excited for this being my first summer class to see how the material works. This is also my first blog I’ve ever made which I feel like has already raised my interest. Just like myself technology has the ability to open peoples interest and benefit you in ways we never knew. As it improves I think people need to stay up to date. I believe people are becoming more informed on a daily basis.
