Does anyone know why some of the corsairs look a little different? Like I have a few questions

What do the tail markings mean?

Like Jigsaw two has a big JW but Scotty and 5’s are small while Charlie just has a big NP. Skipper also has a small JW but the rudder is checkered. They are all the only ones to have them too while the rest don’t even have anything.

Like I can take a guess as to why Skipper’s is checkered (literally skipper) but I don’t know about the others.

What does the NP on Charlie’s stand for?? Is it short for Enterprise because that was probably their carrier? If so, why was it the carrier and not JW like everyone else? Is he a marine or so mething?

Are the rudder markings based on rank??? Why is it that only the ones that have the letters are acknowledged? did the squadron go through a scuffed transition to the ident on the tail leaving some without it? Am I overthinking this?

Also some of the corsairs are painted differently. If you look hard enough you’ll notice that like 29 and Jigsaw 2 are very different as well as some others. Like looking at this pic you can already see 29’s lighter part going higher than the planes in the background. Some seem darker than others like 15 and idk if it was just detail or there’s an actual explanation behind this

I’m not gonna point how skipper is wildly different in shade from the rest because skipper is skipper.

Some of them have Markings? Like Scotty and 36 have red lines and he and McKinley both have this boxy-ish outline right under their cockpits. You can see it in the above image on 29 and McKinley(19). But Scotty(below) has both of them as well as the small JW. It’s hard to see the red but it’s around the insignia

edit: after a quick google into the history of the insignia the red was originally an added outline but it got changed to blue sometime later so like

Are the red corsairs just older?? Even if they are why didn’t they get it repainted? Why is it just them that have the red? Maybe the red ones are just non-navy(maybe marine?)/came from another squadron and the original JWs just refused the red? (Apparently some pacific units actually did) what about the box? There’s still no answers to the box

Also just gonna point out: most of the jws actually have light blue outlines on their insignias compared to a darker one! It was mentioned some navy pacific aircraft had lighter outlines so damn

edit 2: ok after another trip to Google APPARENTLY white box things are just tape meant as a seal cause sometimes the Corsair fuel tanks would leak and splatter the canopy? And this problem was later resolved in newer ones

So maybe the boxed ones ARE just older?

Lmao, imagine being a Corsair on a recon flying and out of nowhere ur tank leaks and u pull a bulldog and when u get back to the carrier the solution is to just tape it up. And it happens to ur buddies too

The thing about the paint schemes and the tail letters still hasn’t been answered.

Thinking about this is keeping me up. It’s two am at the time I’m writing this.

Anyways, you have to admit, these guys got some serious details for side characters with like a minute of screen time. I guess the creators really knew corsairs or did their research? Bravo.

Carstober day 4: Tunnel

As I’ve mentioned before in another post, there are a lot of dead pigeons in subway tunnels. Every worker I know hates pigeons and many subway drivers try to kill them on purpose. So yeah here is Metro passing by a bunch of dead pigeon planes.

(Forklift mechanic in the Flysenhower's engine room, to new recruit): See this thing? We have no idea why, and there's absolutely no logical reason that it should do this, but every time we poke it, the ship sneezes within the next ten seconds. Observe.

Someone is about to permanently banned from the engine room. There's just this massive, sign tapped next to the spot, written in sharpie and colored with highlighter saying "For the love of Chrysler DO NOT TOUCH!" BOLDED and ITALICIZED Dwight sneezing and some poor jet falls off the flight deck in fright. I imagine being on an aircraft carrier when one sneezes is like being in a magnitude 8 earthquake. The cooks scrambling to stop this massive carton of 100+ eggs from toppling over. The captain is making marks on a map and there's just this massive stray line disappearing off the map. Some sleeping seaman wakes up on the floor in confusion. The doctors have a lot bumps and bruises. The submarine getting the crap scared out of him when his super sensitive hearing picks up the sneeze from 800 feet down. Everyone scrambling to hold onto something. Bravo and Echo freezing in place like someone just shouted "RED LIGHT!" Better yet, visiting Dusty panicking cause he thinks they just got torpedoed.

So I'm working of some firefighter OCs, and I'm trying to make sure the models are those which Piston peak's air attack base can handle. Considering their biggest aircraft being Cabbie and dipper, when we consider their takeoff distance you get 580 and 850m respectively. But considering their overall biggest was the C-130 seen in the "wall of fame", that gives us a takeoff distance of 1,110 m (C-130's varies from 1,005-1,095 m).

-> I wasn't gonna take the Martin Mars into consideration because even though they're the biggest, Martin Mars aircraft is not amphibious like the CL-415 (Lil' Dipper), they always had to land in water. However @jigsaw173 posted this certain picture:

And in the picture you can see the Martin Mars aircraft has gears. Considering their size and huge weight, I'm considering they'd need the runway to be near or above 2,000 m cause landing and takeoff distances vary, and takeoff distance is often higher.

-> Ok now taking consideration of the largest jet seen at Piston peak would be Siddeley (or that guy who does look like Siddeley, if it's not him), his model is inspired by a Gulfstream V, whose takeoff distance is 1,570 m.

I don't know what to do with the lodge's runway, but if it's that long, then certainly the air attack team's base should've had such a long runway too.

-> Why am I blabbering about this?? Cause I wanted to make a DC-10 Air tanker OC but due to their size, I wondered if they could land and take off from the base. Did I get my answer? No not exactly but I feel like the runway should be near 2,000 m long so I'll take it and somehow work them out.

Hi! I'm doing some reasearch about planes 3 and you seem to know the most about this topic, you even have stuff I couldn't find anywhere else lol uhh I'm confused about how some storyboard from planes 3 have El Chu in some sort of rivalry with his brother, but then there's this plot about space too and also there's the title Beyond The Sky ¿¿?? were those two different versions of the third movie? Was Dusty even gonna appear in it? There's no signs of him in any of the planes 3 content we've seen so far, what do you know about that? bc so far the only logical explanation I can think of is that at first they were gonna do another racing movie with Dusty and El Chu having a side plot, but then they changed it to a NEW Planes movie but with a different protagonist and the whole space stuff

I think the “planes 3” thing and beyond the sky are two separate concepts. Supposedly beyond the sky was not intended to be part of the planes series, it was its own thing like how metro would’ve been. So it would’nt have dusty or el chu in it.(they wouldve stood out in the theme anyways) The little concept art I saw showed some plot about el chu in some kinda rivalry with his brother. Also Rochelle was involved. I think it also showed scenes in like, Mexico or something. I do remember the storyboards of the planes playing the drums at a party. I didn’t find much about that movie, if it was even intended to be a whole movie instead of just a special. Also slightly off topic but I did find some boat and trucks concept art at some point so I think they were definitely trying to expand with the world of cars thing

Hii, I was wondering where this art is from? is it a book? I can't find any info about it :(

It’s from Scott Seeto’s Instagram or something like that if I recall. 🤔 Old concept art that never made the Final Cut. Scott Seeto is one of the artists that worked on the Planes movies as well as other Disney stuff. I’ve learned that you can find a lot of behind the scenes stuff on personal pages of the artists that worked on the movies. But please don’t harass them as it is their pages. He is also the one that’s behind this incredible art of the F2Y Sea Dart that I adore a lot. (It’s one of my favorite planes)

I normally don’t come on tumblr anymore but I will DIE with beyond the sky on my gravestone. I remember my beyond the sky hyperfix era and WE WERE ROBBED. Every chance I get I always tell whoever’s interested about beyond the sky and show them the concept art and videos.

I loved the characters. blaze, goblin, the blackbird, and the osprey. they were just so cool and they felt so… can’t remember the word is but DAMN, did the concept arts and everything make me feel so emotional. from what I’ve seen, the movie looked beautiful and you could tell they put some research into it. Being a huge avgeek with a thing for experimentals, the fact that this movie was centered around them made me so excited. it always makes me so sad seeing that it went nowhere 💔

Here's a big old rotating beacon on the ground in the hangar completely not rotating or beaconing rn. It's in the process of getting some tlc. Soon it will be back on the rooftop roating and beaconing!

These guys are basically like a lighthouse for airports! They tell silly pilots flying around at night that this location is indeed an airport and they type of airport that it is. This one flashes a single green and single white to indicate this airport is civilian/public, any airplane capable can land here. A yellow and white one would indicate a seaplane airport, and a regular airplane would get soggy trying to land here. A white, green, and a yellow light tells pilots this is a heliport and airplanes would also have a bad time trying tonland here. 2 white flashes and a green flash tells the possibly lost & sleepy pilot that they're going to get a visit from F-16s and Blackhawk helicopters if they try to land here, those are military airports.
