Neanderthals my beloved

Sketches from my paleolithic graphic novel project. There are a LOT of changes. I haven't actually changed the story but the POV and main character did. Sorry Tam, but Junar is just so much cooler. It's mostly the fact that his own 'side story' aligns so much more with the core of the message I'm trying to tell through this project. It works better when we follow his own adventure. So from now on this story going to be in Neanderthal POV.

I've been writing the opening, and it features a younger Junar and baby Jaya. It's a lot of teeth in these drawings because I'm reading about children's dentition to get their looks right :P Also, Junar and Jaya's mom makes her first public appearance.

The world of Jih's Journey is getting bigger, with two new announcements on the way! Here's the first.

Three years after the events of Jih’s Journey, Sadal, Narro, and Trekkal now live among The Aligned once more in the plains of Iraq. The roads remain harsh but the bonds of the three are strong. Sadal and Narro build a life, and Trekkal harnesses her spiritual training under Stelo’s direction in preparation to lead their people. One day, an Aligned woman by the name of Leta comes to the band and speaks of dark tidings that will come across the land. She asks for an escort through foreign lands in order to deliver a powerful object in a sack that must not be viewed by anyone. With no volunteers from the band, Sadal recalls her traveling experience with Jih and ventures as an escort for the young woman. In Sadal’s Struggle, Sadal learns to adjust to a new culture, confront the legacies of the past, and find peace in an age of violence.

For any followers out there, please help a friend out if you can!

So I'm not the one to ask for help so I've been very hesitant on sharing, but got some news last week that I will be homeless by June (and no, this is not an awful april fools joke, I am panicking here).

Some of you in the vulture culture community know last week and a bit ago I had an accident resulting in losing consciousness, breaking my neck, and experiencing a seizure for the first time. I've been having ongoing brain issues (we removed a lot of cerebral fluid in December that was causing increased pressure and testing the fluid to rule out infection, diagnosed with IIH), and last month I've been having heart issues.

Referrals have been made to a cardiology specialist, as well as the first fit clinic. But it's looking like I will probably have to go private to get listened to / get the care I need ASAP. Couple with the fact I will be homeless by June, it's a really terrifying situation. I have contacted local councils, independent living schemes, shelter, private landlords etc and feel like I've been let down. I'm awaiting a doctors appointment with a NHS advisor on the 10th, where I'll be showing them my list of resources I've used, and to see if they are able to help find anything.

I reluctantly made a justgiving page, on the advice of my friends, and while I hate asking for help, I am honestly quite scared and uncertain about my future.

Thank you for your time, I'm sorry for posting this here but I don't know what else to do. I will be continuing to work on the skull index, as its such big passion project of mine along with the help of my team. Its a great distraction.

the fact that i will never get to talk to or hang out with a neanderthal genuinely brings me to tears

we evolved alongside them and they were our brothers and now they're GONE and i will never be able to talk to them and know how they thought and what they did and their traditions and cultures

wailing screaming sobbing I MISS THEM !!!!!! NEANDERTHALS COME BACK !!!!!!

As an archaeologist I share these same feelings, it’s an amazing thing to see

currently crying over ancient humans and how the drive to create art and tell stories is literally ingrained into our DNA. how our species loves so deeply and mourns our dead so tenderly that we laid them to rest in beds of wildflowers, curled up like they were going to sleep for the final time. How children, when walking in mud and sand would tamp down their footprints and look at the marks they left. That in caves, small hands are on the ceiling because a loved one lifted the child up to decorate their home like we lift little kids up to decorate a Christmas tree or their bedroom walls. the fact that art was one of the first things to be created for our own enjoyment fills me with a feeling I don’t know how to describe. If I wasn’t going into illustration, I’d be an archeologist because I can think of nothing more amazing than uncovering the threads that weave the timeline of humanity together. I will never know these ancient humans and it makes my heart ache. The fact that we, hundreds of thousands of years in the future, are able to look back and see ourselves in those who never could have imagined what today is like is the coolest feeling ever.
