“If you were coming in the Fall, I’d brush the Summer by…”

Something I find really weird -yet happens so often- is my brain’s habit of feeling blown by thoughts and theories about things that have been in front of it, of me, of us, for ages. Sometimes I go so deep I think I get somewhere, and feel frightened to share, such as that Jungkook’s live where he was watching Jimin’s Set Me Free performance and smiled at the “won’t hide anymore even if it hurts” line. That live had been out for MONTHS but my dead ass woke up one day and thought of slightly analyzing it and be like “people, let’s just talk about it as if none ever did😊”. But it’s not rare for me either to make some reflections and be like “bitch duh???”, kinda slapping my forehead.

Now this is not me playing it safe, but it also is. Because what I’ve been thinking of has really been in front of us forever, right under our noses, and still something special made me feel the need to point it out and write about it on here. It’s probably gonna be sooo obvious to everyone but to me every chance is a good chance to talk about love. For those who usually read me I guess expectations are never that high, for some new people hi… this is what you’re interacting with.

What made me get stuck in that spiral called mind was an old narrative going around last year, when we all got to know Jimin and Jungkook enlisted as companions. I sincerely promised to give as little value as possible and attention to negative rumors and antis, only when truly needed, celebrating Jikook’s bond instead; but that needs to be mentioned for context. We’re basically talking about people assuming Jimin and Jungkook got help/advantage from the company (and/or whoever accepted their application) in order to enlist together. Whether you think it would have been right or wrong for them to be “privileged”, that’s up to you, it’s still very much likely to not be what happened. And it’s kinda sad to see such allegations adding to everything else, towards two people who didn’t get it easy and didn’t live lightheartedly through it at all.

And this is the entire point of this post, going back to it. We always say: “they chose each other” but we never fully stop on this exact sentence and realize what it means. At least, I never really did. And there is no intention under this sky to over analyze and dissect their choice and decision to the point it becomes a mere object of argumentation and looses its authenticity. Some things really speak up for themselves and chopping them up ruins it all.

I giggle when anons tell me “what’s so special about Jikook?” or even “why is a neck bite so relevant for two bros playing and drinking together?”. And my answer it’s always that the fact, here, repeating over and over, is not what happens, but that it happens between them. Every time. If we got Jimin biting Jungkook’s neck, Hobi sucking Tae’s ear, Namjoon asking Yoongi for ramen or Jin giving him a birthday thirst trap, I’d be calling them a bunch of either fan service freaks or cute bold gays. But that’s a stupid example and digression to explain that all these moments, and a lot more kept private, are all concentrated between the same two people, even the enlistment. It’s special they applied together not just because they did, they’re not even the first idols to do so. It is because it represents the culmination of exclusivity, consistency, commitment; and notice how I said represents, not proves or shows.

Their private lives are really important to them (BITCH DUH). Each member tries to keep it protected and safe. And that works even for their emotions, their low moments, which I don’t think they purposely hide, but handle out of the public eye for sure. That’s why I value Jungkook’s lives as if they’re my babies. Clearly feeling low, burned out, lost, going live again a few minutes before midnight just to remind us to stay tuned for something amazing coming. Now tell me you think about it and don’t cry then tell me you have no feelings you’re telling me the same thing twice.

Humans are beautiful because they’re vulnerable. We’re sensitive beings. And sometimes it can be healing to show a bit of what’s inside, some tears slipping out or the happy mask falling a bit. Sometimes it’s good to say “Jungkook’so busy lately, I hope he takes care of himself” and then pout the shit out of your face. Sometimes it’s good to miss someone so much you seat on a couch and watch their content. Sometimes it’s good to miss someone so much you tell them. “I miss you too”.

Yet private is private and a lot has been kept to themselves. So now, with a quite better full picture, we can assume how hard and difficult it must have been for them to wait and submit the application, paying attention to the right documentation and requirements, then waiting again for an answer for MONTHS, months of cluelessness, of question marks, planning trips together being afraid, afraid, of being separated from your person for 18 months.

“They chose each other” it’s important to me for two main reasons: the first one, it means they got what they wanted, fulfilling a request they asked for, and we love when Bangtan members get what they want. It’s just the alignment of the universe working at its peak.

But the second reason is the “duh” one I thought about a few days ago: they didn’t choose each other because they needed someone, because fragile Jimin needed protection or shy Jungkook needed someone to talk to. They didn’t choose each other just because they were the best option among all, because they know each other, get along, just because they have same interests and passions, or work together. They didn’t choose each other because no other friend or person could take the path with them, or because they can’t stand loneliness or making new friends, adapting to new environments.

They purposely chose each other. They didn’t need someone, just someone in there to be with them: they needed the other. Jimin needed Jungkook, and Jungkook needed Jimin. None else could have taken their place for the other, in the entire universe, no one else can give Jimin what Jungkook does, what he provides him, what he makes him feel, the way he makes him feel, and be and talk and act and let it all go, at once, and viceversa. No one else would have been the same thing. No one else. See the exclusivity we were mentioning above?

It’s not even about loneliness to me, like being scared of it or of the potentiality. It’s about love. Loving someone so much you’ll always choose the way you can have them by your side, even if it’s the hardest, even though it means being delivered to the toughest unit and spending months waiting to find out if you made it or not. Trying it all, at every cost. Brushing summer by if the love of your life is coming to you in the fall.

We’re talking about their safe place in the entire world, their heart feeling at ease, understood, loved and able to love. I don’t know how to explain it better than this: they chose each other because the other is the only person they wanted.

I know they would’ve loved to share worries and fears, but they couldn’t. I’m sure they would’ve loved to be supported and encouraged. I’m sure the last two or even three years have not been easy at all for them, regarding military service, and the last thing I can stand people saying is the fact Jimin and Jungkook woke up one day, asked daddy to go to the park together, and got it immediately. They’ve been through it fully just for love just for it’s sake just because their heart wants it and you can’t control what your heart asks and needs and that’s what I’m always giving to them. Forever.

So if you ever find yourself wondering what loving someone deeply and truly means, what someone who loves someone else would do for that feeling, look at that guy missing that other guy and going live everytime he was not around. Then look at that other guy resting his head on his shoulder, hands around the neck and fingers crossed at the airport, then look at these two same guys facing each other even on a moving walkway. Then go a little bit back, slowly, and see how that guy wrote a song asking the other to stay, to listen to his silly and “cliched” words, and then look at their visits during practice, the way they look so shy and collected around each other when they’re actually planning a whole companion system application probably pouring their hearts and telling each other how much they need to stick together.

Then go even more back, and look at that young boy being scared of enlisting alone in 10 years. And look at those two boys when they were young, didn’t know anything about life but knew everything at the same time. Look at it all up to 2013 and come back here, knowing they’re together and it will be over relatively soon. They’ll make it together and come back safely. Think of the way finding love can save people’s lives then call me a floating on a heart shaped cloud idiot and I’ll tell you yes I am. Because feeling the love even in the most un-romanticizable experience ever is another type of thing.

Bonus clip two lovebirds during their last live attached at the hip with glue shaking hands and shit like office colleagues when they were probably caressing cheeks and kissing foreheads goodnight - I love you - I miss you and all.

24 hour Jikook Fest

So the drought has given way to a deluge of Jikook content. All of this in one 24 hour period and that’s before we know if there will be airport photos.

First they left the White House Press Corps fighting for breath.

Then they got POTUS to try out heart fingers

And what the heck is this…. so much smouldering in one photo. I am not sure it’s safe.

And after a hard day spreading the word of tolerance and love and meeting the leader of a superpower what else should we do but shoot some hoops.

Finally this morning we wake up to a Samsung throwback. A lot of attitude going on here especially as I recall the original campaign dropped during BTS holidays when the fandom was going through a lot of angst on account of these two. 

Waiting to see if we get something from the airport but given the NY shenanigans I’m not holding my breath.
