Shooters Bag turns 40 in 2016

The boss, Gary Haynes, didn鈥檛 like having to replace the canvas bag he bought for the Philadelphia Inquirer staff photogs, and was willing to make it locally. I didn鈥檛 want it copied, I wanted to make it better. Pockets on all sides, strap going all the way around the heavy bag, tall enough for a telephoto, wide enough for a motorized Nikon F, able to open and close the main compartment with one-hand. etc. etc.

Country music roots in Texas
After years, 49 years to be exact, meeting in Las Vegas. The Country Music Awards will have it鈥檚 50th awards ceremony in Texas. Although Memphis, Tenn, is thought of as the capital, Texas country music roots go deep.
Not only is this the home of Willie Nelson and the Austin music scene, it is the birth place of Bob Wills, and the Texas playboys. THE country music leader in the 1930鈥瞫 with a radio show broadcasting from Tulsa, Okla., and selling out concerts.
A big name that nobody knows, because he didn鈥檛 go to New York or Las Angles. He stayed with his roots in the southwest, cutting records in Dallas, Tex., and traveling by bus to dance halls throughout Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana.
The Country Music Awards apparently will make the AT&T Stadium in the heart of Dallas-Fort Worth their home. Hope they remember their roots.

Biz Stone just does it
Saw an interesting interview of聽Christopher "biz" Stone who had a full ride scholarship, but the when the part-time warehouse job turned into a full-time job as a graphic designer he dropped out of school at 19 and became co-founder of Twitter. Now a multi-millionaire, founded Jelly Industries. Not for putting on a bagel, but apps for cellphones. Ideas, and solving a need putting his money to work. Now turned his blogs into a book. Lucky guy, very clever and always thinking up ideas. Being creative.

Do it yourself or focus on what you do best?
This is where it gets complicated today as the computer enables us to do a little bit of everything. I had a business and even though I could do it, decided to outsource so I could stay forcused on the business.
It is interesting reading about business success and seeing how they didn't need to advertise, but instead went online to different websites to comment and used Craig's List! Check out my facebook page. .

Helping get the word out
Read a great Nieman story, Riptide, which follows evolution of journalism from paper to digital. Where some see the entire internet as one newspaper that you have to edit. Others see various websites. They show how it has evolved from AOL websites, to Facebook.

As I finish my Kindle guidebook for people coming to events in Dallas/Fort Worth I wonder if I'm in step with the times or behind?
