speaking as a lifelong sh fan here I am 100% serious when I say benoit blanc is not only the spiritual successor to sherlock holmes but is also the modern day sherlock holmes adaptation we need and deserve. he's definitely not meant to be a 1-1 adaptation of that character but he absolutely is the man canon holmes was and every subsequent interpretation of him should have been and he literally deserves to sit among the ranks of timeless iconic detectives. the first movie was so right when they called him the last of gentleman sleuths. he's THE charming and eccentric detective character we need for a new generation and I just hope and pray we can get more of him in this franchise. and he's literally gay

just watched Del Toro’s Pinocchio: off the top of my head rn is that one scene right after Pinocchio has come to life. especially after the time the movie spent with Carlo, Pinocchio does look and feel like more of a traditional monster. the scene made me uncomfortable because even though he behaves joyfully and enthusiastically, his innocence can seem unsettling and you almost start thinking “omg he’s going to ruin geppetto’s life” and you start to wonder what direction the movie is gonna go in. geppetto locks him in a closet like a wild animal! idk it was so different from the other representations I’ve seen and the character literal and psychological growth feels v impactful

I've ALWAYS hated the story of Pinocchio.
Yes, the story is about a puppet not understanding right from wrong - and so does the wrong thing and earns consequences from those actions.
But it always resulted in such an unlikable character.
Then Del Torro comes around and makes the best version literally ever. Everything is perfect.
He didn't join the circus because he was a little twat. He joined because, in the town where people resented him, he found a place where he was 'loved' and 'accepted.'
And for once! Geppetto is written to be an actual human being! Not some pure-hearted old man incapable of any other emotion than love. Del Torro's Geppetto is flawed. He's human. He's in pain. His love for Pinocchio is genuine. He doesn't love the puppet because tHaT's ThE RiGhT thInG tO dO - but because he actually loves him.

MXTX couple time apart as in completely out of contact
Bingqiu: 3 years + another 5 years
Wangxian: 13 years
Hualian: 800 years
Moshang: ...1 month
All the other canon couples with their years of separation and pining and worry that they would never see each other again...
and Moshang is just like "RIP to you lot but we're different"
