the worst kind of social interaction you can have is when you don't know if you passed or failed it but you know you could have done better. like it was fine i guess but if someone shot me in the back of the head right now i wouldn't complain.

turns out the worst way to handle trauma and grief is to put two traumatized grieving kids in a room and telling them to talk it out

This is a friendly reminder to never, ever publish your book with a publishing company that charges you to publish with them. That is a vanity press, which makes money by preying on authors. They charge you for editing, formatting, cover art, and more. With most of these companies, you will never seen a cent of any royalties made from sale of your book. A legitimate publishing company only makes money when you make money, they will never charge you to publish with them. If a company approaches you and says "Hey, we'll publish your book, just pay us X amount of money," tell them to go fuck themself and block them.

in monkey man when dev patel makes the final confrontation he asks "do you know my mother's name? do you know any of their names?" and that's when it hit me...his character has no name and we've gone the entire movie without him ever identifying himself that way. when you give up a part of yourself for a righteous cause, losing his name so he can fully embody hanuman...yeah this movie is so good

one of my fave parts about monkey man is the twist it takes on the classic training montage trope, because in this film the hero isnt shaping up all on his lonesome, only his traumatic past and thirst for revenge as company, hes in a community. hes being supported and encouraged and literally healed by them, he takes strength from that community, and its so meaningful both to the character and to the audience, as a part of the film and its messaging. idk it was very refreshing to see, and very beautifully represented the specific cultural/contextual importance of community as well as just the universal human need for it especially in our current climate

Being a young adult is so strange. You enter a coffee shop. The 20 year old girl waiting behind you cried all night because she just came to a new city for university and she feels so alone. That 27 year old guy over there works a job he is overqualified for, he lives with his parents and wants to move out but doesn't know what to do about it. That one 24 year old dude already has a car, a house, and a job waiting for him once he graduates thanks to his dad's connections. The 26 year old barista couldn't complete his higher education because he has to work and take care of his family. The 28 year old girl sitting next to you has no friends to go out with so she is texting her mother. That couple (both 25 years old) are married and the girl is pregnant. The 29 year old writing something on her laptop has realized that she chose the wrong major so she is trying to start all over. We are not alone in this, but we are actually so alone. Do you feel me
