Make/Remake and Course
The make/remake project is still in progress with my team. This project is very different from past ones because we are trying to decide on a singular design as a group. Prior to this I have been on my own in the creative process, but having a team has proved to be difficult and helpful at the same time. I am confident our design will end up looking great, but communicating needs to be better among team members. I have letters A-E and we plan on doing all rounded corners with lines like a ladder almost in the letters.
This course has been a challenge for me. I did not do Arts 245 and I would consider myself a beginner in all things graphic design. So, after I overcame the learning curve, I really started to grow in my abilities on Adobe. This class has been a great learning opportunity, I feel confident in my abilities now using Indesign and Illustrator.

Arts 246 Ch 12
Chapter 12 highlights the importance of the typographic design process. The design process is a sequence of events that begins as soon as the designer takes on a problem. Much like a scientist, or researcher, a designer looks for a problem or idea that they want to pursue. The design process can not be boiled down to one way of doing it, rather every process is unique to the individual designing. The process ends when a deadline comes up or they feel as though they are finished with the project. Personally, I worked on a piece of art work for almost an entire school semester in high school because my teacher and myself wanted it to be perfect.

The final project is what you are viewing right now. It is a journal of all the works that I have done in this class throughout the semester. I personally love the idea of a process journal because it gives a professional and refined look to present my works to future employers.
We began research on how to format our journal as well as make a mood board. I also began with a very basic format for some pages in my journal. I want to do a minimalist theme since the focus will be on my work. I am drawing inspiration from an example in class where she used a white background with light dots throughout the entire journal. I love how she incorporated the white space and background to portray her work. It provided contrast to her work and I want to do the same. I hope I achieved my goal and I hope that everyone viewing enjoyed looking and reading about how my semester went in Arts 246.

Arts 246 Ch. 11
This weeks reading talks about educating individuals about typography. With the subject be intricate and always changing it can be difficult to teach students the proper ways of typographic design. I myself am still struggling to understand how to convey it. The chapter is divided into assignments and studies that professors taught. The one I found the most interesting was the Flowering Typography. Each letter is accompanied by a flower which starts with that letter. The goal was to create harmony between type and images. It was important to make sure the letter was still recognizable as well as the flower.

Arts 246 Ch 10
Chapter 10 highlights multiple case studies pertaining to graphic design. The first case study was interesting because they talk about texts is posters. One of the graphic designers, Levy, was told by his teacher to put the words in the poster and not just on the image. That changed his mindset for the rest of his career. I think these words say a lot about typographic design because for me personally I had to learn to design with the words rather than put the words on the image. By incorporating the words into the design it creates movement and dimension to the original design itself.

Arts 246 Week 10
This week we finished up our final zine designs. I did more research and found an article displaying how many peony producers there were and how many were sold in certain states. There were some states that did not condone to give their peony information. The next project is our process journal, I am planning on doing a minimalist design. I want the focus to be more on my work rather than the design of the journal itself. I am excited to document and actually create a portfolio that I can show to future employers. Hopefully this project will assists me in future jobs and so on.

99U Podcast Week 9
This week, I listened to the podcast “Personal Projects” featuring Olivia Bromell. She is an illustrator who outlines the importance of finding what you are passionate about in life to make work feel less like work. She was really relatable and helpful. She began by telling us about her journey through anxiety and depression, which eventually helped put things in perspective. What I found interesting was that some of the most famous pieces of art were passion projects. For example, The Cafe at Night by Van Gogh and Matisse’s The Goldfish. Bromell states that “your individual happiness matters” while doing your work and that personal projects can help you achieve that. Something that resonated with me was that the sooner you figure out what you're passionate about, the sooner you can build a life that you love. Everyone wants that.

Arts 246 Week 9
This week I started adding the details to my zine. My color palette is mostly pink with some green to give some contrast. I went with a larger text with some color blocks in the background. I wanted my digital images to be more of a background with my design instead of in the foreground. I need to work on my title page still because the letters are difficult to see. I’m going to try and lower the opacity or change the color of the letters. I have learned a lot doing this zine and I enjoyed researching the symbolism of peonies.

Arts 246 Chapter 8
Chapter 8 outlines typography on the screen. In today’s age keeping proper typography is becoming more and more difficult due to rapidly changing technology. Screen sizes, screen resolutions and new interactivity is making typography continuously more complicated. I think moving from type on paper, and handwritten notes to the computer generated type we see today has been one of the biggest evolutions. It has become especially difficult to portray type on screen and expect it to come out the same exact way. Like our first poster project, the poster seems perfect on the screen but when printed out the text is too big or too small, and the colors are far more saturated.

Arts 246 Week 8
This week on our zine project, we began our rough drafts for our zine. My rough draft allowed for me place where I wanted to put my pictures, text and headers. I did not want to add pictures yet so it would not make it more confusing for me. This way I can move it around without jeopardizing the rest of the layout. I still plan to do my zine around peonies and how to grow them. I would also like to mention what they are and where they are found around the world. I want my colors to be pastel based with pinks, greens, and maybe some blues.

Arts 246 Chapter 9
This weeks reading is about time and movement in typography. How time is an important structural piece that determines its sequence and pace of the message they are trying to convey. Movement also give the type a voice rather than just being placed on the page. I thought it was interesting that these two elements were seen as early as 1899. I never considered time an important element in typography, but artist used it to show the fast or slow paced world that they lived in at the time. For example, Carlo Carra made collages with multiple layers to represent the fast paced world of social media and how information became instantaneous.
