Re-imagined Resilience from Red Clay Dance Company on Vimeo.

Check out the full video of “Re-Imagined Resilience” that we created back in May for the Pivot Arts Festival! This piece was inspired by movement from our evening length work “Resilience 2.0”. Each company member was asked to reflect and embody their current feelings about occupying space with their black bodies and how being in the confined space of their homes for 2 months may have shifted how they take up space. Resilience 2.0 explored these ideas about occupying space as it related to the history of black bodies attempting to claim space in Chicago’s Black Belt during the 30’s and 40’s. We continue to fight everyday for the safety of our black bodies and our black lives in our communities and even in our homes. Today, the murderers of our sister Breonna Taylor are still free. We will continue to say her name until the 3 police officers that stormed her private property, invaded her space, and took her beautiful soul from this earth are brought to justice.
