As to why Merlin has left Camelot, she might have left to protect her little one from the prophecy.

To guard and train her for the future to come.

To give a little time with her family. With the ones who love her the most: her parents.

Maybe the lion and boar wanted to savor whatever time they could get with their baby Gawain

And this time, upon seeing the fruit of their love, the face of their eclipse, nothing could ever hope to be so whole. On that blessed day, the lovers were gifted a token to mark such an especial occasion.

Merlin took a moment to think and gave her reply “I think Lionell would be fit for a little lion”

They smiled at each other knowing that no matter what the future holds for them, they would be happy. Finally.

There’s a story, you see, of an ancient love - told by many, seen by few. It is a tragic story really about a love that was never meant to be and doomed to remain so for all of eternity. Though Fate, it would seem, is not without mercy and it bent our lovers’ destiny for their sorrow was great enough to swallow the universe and a beacon of hope could be its salvation.

It is said that the Sun and the Moon are impossible lovers. He was forged in light, built with a raw and bruit strength - warm; while She was made to glow and veil the lands with her darkness, mysterious and cunning - cold. He ached for her cool hands to calm him, to bring him solace; She longed for his warm embrace to guard and soothe her. They each see the light they so desperately need in one another - the soft glow, the brute light.

Still night and day must exist, and for that they must stay apart.
