his eyebrows furrowed  .  “  what , you’ve really never heard of it  ?  ”  he asked in disbelief  .  “  the time warp  ?  doctor frank n furter  ?  that doesn’t ring any bells  ?  ”

             。•  * ☪      ❛   nerd  sounds  about  right   ,    ❜    satisfaction  hit  his  lips   ,   showing  that  cassius  always  got  what  he  wanted   ;  in  that  case   ,   yet  another  person  digging  themselves  a  hole      ❛   someone  also  used  the  term  DOUCHEBAG   ,   which  i  think  works  well  too   .  ❜

the smile on his face made it obvious that what ever joke cash was a part of  ,  it was flying far over james’ head  .  still  ,  despite his furrowed brows  ,  a smug smile remained on his lips  .  “  well  ,  mate  ,  you don’t need a costume for that  .  ”

         。•  * ☪    it  was  a  strange  sensation  how  easy  eye  or  hair  color  could  be  changed  with  a  simple  spell    .    remus  often  forgot  how  far  the  reaches  of  magic  could  go    ,    even  for  things  that  didn’t  seem  to  matter  much   .   dressed  up  as  GOMEZ  ADDAMS    ,    he  looked  to  be  having  way  too  much  fun  pretending  to  be  the  patriarch  of  one  of  the  most  infamous  fictional  families  on  television   .    despite  having  been  portrayed  on  muggle  technology   ,   it  was  common  knowledge  that  a  majority  of  the  cast  was  made  up  of  witches  and  wizards   .      ❛    well   ,  well   ,   well    ,  ❜    he  said  in  typical  gomez  fashion   ,   the  accent  strong  as  a  playful  smile  appeared   ,    ❛    if  this  is  a  real  party   ,   then  where  are  the  corpses   ?    ❜       

all the bright and thought out costumes were beginning to make james feel like he should have tried just a little bit harder  ,  though this was a step up from last year  ,  when he’d dressed up as a quidditch player by simply throwing on an appleby arrows jersey and carrying around his broomstick  .  but this year  ,  james found himself turning his head at many of the students walking by  —  nate’s pirate costume looked so realistic that he’d had to take a double take to ensure an actual pirate hadn’t hijacked its way into hogwarts  .  remus was no exception  ,  and james grinned as soon as he saw him  ,  mustache  ,  accent  ,  and all  .   “  mate  ,  why didn’t you ask me to be your morticia  ?  i’m a little bit offended .  ”  he feigned a pout .  “  and don’t speak ill of this party too loudly  ,  ”  he warned  ,  eyebrows raised  ,  “  that party committee could be anywhere  ,  and they’re fucking scary  .  ”

❝   i’ll be honest with you, i did not peg you as a ROCKY HORROR fan, but the look really suits you.  ❞ lily grinned, running her fingertips along the seams of his tan jacket, her eyes running along the rest of his frame appreciatively.  ❝   kind of makes me rethink my costume option, i should have come as janet.   ❞

“  i should be honest with you ,  ”  james admitted sheepishly ,  “  it was sort of last minute ... not that i don’t like rocky horror — but brad majors was an obvious choice ... glasses and a button up and all .  ”  he smiled , pushing his glasses farther up on the bridge of his nose . he reached up , tucking a piece of hair behind her ear ,  “  i think you’d make a beautiful janet , but i like the scarecrow . you kind of like the one my mum has out front to keep away the vampires .  ”  he adds with a teasing grin .

❛  i’m p r e t t y  positive they spiked it about 20 minutes ago. but hey, go ALL out, it’s a party after all isn’t it ?  ❜ odette shrugged, watching the masked student pour his concoction into the punch with gusto, a sly smirk tugging on the edge of her lips hidden behind her own chalice.  ❛ this is my favorite part of these things, teenage rebellion sprinkled throughout the night. feels like we’re actually KIDS again.   ❜

he’s pretty sure he shouldn’t be just standing idly by , watching as a student quite literally spikes the punch bowl right in front of him , but james had decided to put aside his head boy duties for the night , in the presence of a pretty girl at least , and in the spirit of halloween — he didn’t want to bring anyone’s mood down . besides , that would’ve been him last year , in fact , it was him last year , until he’d been caught red handed .  “  i don’t even want to know how many different things this thing is spiked with ,  ”  he crinkled his nose ,  “  though as long as it’s not a love potion , or a hallucinogenic potion , i think we’re good .  ”

“ i don’t get it , ”  james’ brow furrowed at the costume , or lack thereof , his head cocked to the side in speculation .  “  are you supposed to be like ... a nerd , or something ? ”

“ HUH ? ”james feigns confusion almost immediately , eyebrows furrowed as he looked down at the outfit he’d put together last minute .  “  of course not , carrow — do you really reckon i’d be caught dead in this coat ?  ”  he cocks his head to the side ,  “  it’s a muggle halloween movie . the rocky horror picture show .  ”

       。•  * ☪     ❛   alright   .    first   ,   i’d  like  to  preface  this  by  saying   :   YES   ,   i  realize  i  sound  nuts   ,   but          well   ,   i’ve  accepted  my  fate    ,   and  i  like  to  think  i  wear  it  nicely   .   or  at  least  moderately  well   .     ❜    it  didn’t  take  a  genius  to  realize  that  fabian  was  wound  up  tight  about  something   ,   the  way  his  words  slipped  free  in  a  fumbled  mess  and  the  way  he  spoke  with  his  hands   .    although  despite  his  determination   ,   he  had  the  forethought  to  be  quiet   .     ❛   i  know  where  you  stand  .   you’ve  made  it  pretty  clear   .   there’s  a  protest  for  blood  equality  coming  up  and  ,   shit  man   ,   i  can’t  miss  it  .    i’m  asking  you  as  JAMES   ,   not  our  head  boy   .    is  there  any  way  i  can  get  out  of  this  castle  without  being  seen   ?   ❜

the entire situation was enough to raise a skeptical brow — fabian’s rambling , the mention of blood equality , and james’ arms folded over his chest as he listened intently , wondering where the hell this was going . if it was going anywhere at all , anyways — it wouldn’t be unlike fabian to to stop him in the hallway and ramble on about nothing in particular in an attempt to distract him from whatever shenanigans he and his brother were up to . only gideon wasn’t here anymore , and unless fabian had found a new pranking partner , he genuinely was starting with a preamble to help his cause . when the question did finally come out , a mischievous smirk appeared on his lips , and he cocked his head to the side .  “  obviously , prewett ,  ”  his arms fell from across his chest , placed on either side of his hips ,  “  i can’t help you out there .  ”  his eyes glanced in either direction in case any member of the staff was lurking in the corners .   “  head boy and all  —  it wouldn’t be right of  me to give students the information they need to break the rules , you know ?  ”  he said , shaking his head .  “  anyways , it’s not like hogwarts has any secret passages . i mean what , do you reckon there would just be a passage behind gregory the smarmy’s statue that leads to hogsmeade ? that sounds a little bit impractical don’t you think ?  ”

           。•  * ☪   ❛   james   .   just  the  guy  i  was  looking  for   .    ❜    his  tone  was  deceptively  nonchalant   ,   the  bottle  of  water  in  his  grasp  lowered  in  a  half  salute  as  he  approached  the  head  boy    .    fabian  made  the  mistake  of  discussing  his  curiosities  with  remus  first    ,    the  brilliant  bastard  running  him  in  verbal  circles  only  to  leave  him  even  more  confused  about  the  castle  structure  than  before   .    he  was  convinced  the  prefect  chuckled  as  he  walked  away   .    ❛   i  just  have  a  few  questions   ,    that’s  all   .   figure  it’s  pretty  damn  prudent  to  lay  all  the  cards  out  on  the  table          assumin’   ,   of  course   ,   you’d  give  this  poor  bastard  a  minute  of  your  time   .    ❜   //  @jmsptrs

james was , almost always now , roaming the hallways , and while he liked for his peers to believe he was just performing his duty as resident head boy , it was mostly due to his restlessness and inability to keep to the common room after curfew . as he turned the corner , he was taken aback by the sound of someone calling his name , jumping slightly as his fist tightened around his wand , only to relax in an instant as the prewett twin came into view . “ oh ? ” he raised a brow curiously , “ all right , what’s up , mate ? how cna i help you ? ”

“ do you know many other remus’ in our mutual acquaintance?            and, of course, now I know he doesn’t have one. you might want to fix that and start one   —   since he’s yours, and all. “

“ that makes sense; I’ve been trying to meld an ungodly mess of transfiguration and charms to get it cast directly on myself. but charming an article of clothing   …  and a cloak really does make sense. no wonder you can pinkie swear we won’t get seen. “

“ well don’t tempt me now , alecto . because i absolutely would start a fan club for him in a moment’s notice .... would you join ? ”

“ you’ve been trying it on yourself ? i’m actually very curious as to how that’s been going ... ”

❝you hope ? ❞those words were enough to alleviate any sense of worry that grasped her beating heart only moments ago, replacing the nasty feeling with a lighthearted joy she could only properly describe as the purest form of joy, a sentiment that was practically foreign to the petite blonde as of late. she couldn’t quite recall the last time she truly felt giddy over something, especially something as simple as a boy telling her he was looking forward to the possibility of her flirting, but it was nice to indulge in the selfish feeling for once, even if it was odd enough to have james potter inspire it. ❝ well, i was. or attempting to at least. ❞ lily shrugged away her nerves, glancing over at him with a soft smile spread across her soft lips. it was a small admission, certainly nothing compromising but for the pair that had notoriously skirted around their feelings for the past year in some way or another, this moment was insurmountable.  his question made her stumble over her response, the implications of missing her past going far past the simple idea of missing summer evenings with her family, but rather the comodities that her ignorance provided. before she knew about magic, she was NORMAL. there was no tension between her and her sister, the fear of what she was did not loom over their existence. she didn’t know guilt as a child, couldn’t fathom the idea of someone wanting to hurt her family for any reason and through that sentiment still rang true nowadays, knowing about magic and all its arbitrary rules - whether legitimate or not -  made it harder for her to navigate through her day to day survival. in truth, she DID miss the comfort of her past. but if it had not been for that fateful letter shook her very existance, she wouldn’t have met the people that now made up her FAMILY. she wouldn’t know james, and that was enough to make her head shake slightly from side to side. ❝ i miss a lot about it but i also think… this would all still be happening. i just wouldn’t know about it so it doesn’t help to think about the what if. plus, i feel like i’ve gained a lot of things that i wouldn’t have otherwise. i wouldn’t have a stubborn albeit cute boy dragging me to astronomy towers late in the evening. ❞

she’d followed along, soft bubbly laugh resurfacing once more as he finally revealed the activity he’d planned out for them. FLYING was one of the things she’d been most excited to discover as a kid and quickly discovered she was NOT good at it at all. her clumsy nature almost always landed her in the infirmary without fail and after the required flying lessons she’d abandoned the hobby, much to petunia’s delight. she still adored the concept though and if she were to trust anyone with a broom, it would be him.❝ promise you won’t let me fall ?❞

her question , only for a moment , caused the heat to rush to his cheeks , flushing pink with something of embarrassment until she’d admitted that she had indeed been flirting . and while the embarrassment of the assumption had passed , his cheeks refused to cool down once his head was filled with the thought that she had been chatting him up — and if he knew lily evans at all , which , it was possible he didn’t — then he knew that she wasn’t the kind of girl for mindless flirting , for futile chat up lines , it wasn’t something she did to pass the time . and while you might have trouble getting him to admit that aloud , it certainly meant more to james than she would ever know . “ hey , well , ” he nudged her with his elbow , “ it’s working . ”

judging by her reaction , discussing her past wasn’t necessarily her favorite of topics . which , fair enough — it had taken his friendship with remus and sirius for him realize that not everyone had a wonderful home life , and that he’d just been lucky enough to be born into a family that not only loved him , but cherished nearly everything he did . “ and we’re better for it , too , ” james replied , a soft smile on his features . he didn’t even want to begin to imagine his life at hogwarts had lily evans not been there — they may not have spent the majority of it as friends , but she’d still managed to be a huge part of his hogwarts experience . “ we need witches like you , you know ? you’re wickedly smart , ” for someone who didn’t grow up around magic , james often thought she knew even more than he , “ and you’ve got so much heart . and that’s important , especially now . my mum says in times like these  , love is especially important . ”

he could hardly suppress the grin at the sight of lily’s expression , giving her hand a soft squeeze in an effort to assure her of her safety . “ c’mon , i’m the best flyer hogwarts’ has seen in years , ” perhaps he hadn’t entirely outgrown his self confidence , “ of course i won’t let you fall . as long as you hold on tight , all right ? ”
