Something I heard in church at @jacobswell today made me think about an interaction I had with a lawn care customer last summer. Lawn care is a side / related business to real estate for me and in the grand scheme of things this was not a huge deal. But I’m still trying to figure out how to handle stuff like this professionally and with respect and understanding. . I think the guy was wrong. He didn’t pay us for honest work that was done for two months and then threatened to stop using us after our attempts to collect from him. When I spoke to him on the phone it basically concluded with “we will go our separate ways.” We didn’t get paid and he wasn’t happy with how his lawn was looking. He was blaming the mower for messing up his grass, while we also mow the yard right next door to his with no issues. . In theory I’d like to go above and beyond and do whatever it takes to make someone happy, but practically there are limits to how much I could spend to do that, and you can’t make unreasonable people more reasonable by satisfying unreasonable demands. . So there is no good answer? . I had mostly forgotten about all of this until today and just started thinking about this guy again so I wanted to write him a note. Like any good breakup, I found myself saying it’s tough that things didn’t work out, but I wish you the best. Haha. . Does it even matter? I’m not sure, but I’ll give it a go, and if nothing else it’s a step in some direction toward relating to and seeing people who I disagree with and may never see eye to eye with. . Currently seeking wintertime ideas for that awkward after dinner / before bed hang time with kiddos.
