On April 14th, 1912, the RMS Titanic hit an iceberg at 11:40 pm, popping open many rivets and allowing water to gush into the ship. 2 hours and 40 minutes later, she sunk at 2:20 am, taking 1500 people with her. 705 people were able to escape the sinking ship, and were picked up by the RMS Carpathia a few hours after the Titanic sank.

If one thing would have went right, she wouldn't have sunk or at least not as many people would have died.
I am one who believes this was allowed by Divine Providence. In hindsight, with all of the societal changes the sinking caused, if I could go back in time to prevent the sinking, would I?
“I still think about the ‘might have beens’ about the Titanic, that’s what stirs me more then anything else. Things that happened that wouldn’t have happened if only one thing had gone better for her. If only, so many if onlys. If only she had enough lifeboats. If only the watertight compartments had been higher. If only she had paid attention to the ice that night. If only the Californian did come. The ‘if only’ kept coming up again and again and that makes the ship more then the experience of studying a disaster. It becomes a haunting experience to me, it’s the haunting experience of ‘if only’.”

I went to see this movie 17 times in the theater. It was in theaters for almost a year from what I can remember. It may seem odd for a very depressed young girl at the time to love this tragic subject so much, but it gave me a passion for the ship, the people and all the history behind it. I was a senior in high school and have since then accumulated quite the library of material.
Promise me you’ll survive. That you won’t give up, no matter what happens. No matter how hopeless.

"But this ship can't sink!"
"She's made of iron Sir, I assure you she can. And she will. 'Tis a mathematical certainty."

She paints her face to hide her face, her eyes a deep water; it is not for Geisha to want, it is not for Geisha to feel; Geisha is an artist of the floating world. She dances. She sings. She entertains you - whatever you want. The rest is shadows, the rest is secret.

“Great Spirit, Maker of All Life. A warrior goes to you swift and straight as an arrow shot into the sun. Welcome him, and let him take his place at the council fire of my people. He is Uncas, my son. Tell them to be patient, and ask death for speed; for they are all there but one - I, Chingachgook - Last of the Mohicans.”
