My mom with her three sisters in the mid 1960s. She has another sister but she wasn't born yet when this picture was taken.

And yes, I have an aunt who's blonde with blue eyes. Well, not anymore. She dyed it another color as an adult and pretty much kept it that color ever since. And my mom's youngest sister wasn't blonde as a child but had light brown skin and dark hair that was thick and wavy. Like the kind of hair you'd see on a black woman or child. So the five of them are an intriguing mix, although, funnily enough, they all look more similar now compared to back then (even with the blur, I think you can still tell that they're all related somehow).

My mom and my aunts have the same mother and father but there is a lot of genetic diversity in their island home of Cape Verde. And from what I know, my maternal grandparents' families lived in Cape Verde for at least a couple hundred years before they were born. It's interesting to imagine what it would've been like if my grandma had ten children instead of five. Ten kids sounds painful though...

I don't know, I'm rambling.

I just find the variety of genetics interesting.
