Art talk Tuesday: This is an example of volume and value. Value is described as the lightness or darkness of tones or colors. Therefore, white is the lightest value and black is the darkest. And do you know what happens when you give value to a shape?? You create VOLUME.

Another computer art assignment- this time I am using the pen tool on Illustrator. Imagine cutting out tiny shapes and pasting them over an image, but on the computer. The process is tedious but the outcome will be super cool once I'm finished!

This installation by Lee Renninger is absolutely amazing. There were so many small porcelain pieces arranged to make just one work of art. The talent, time, and vision that was put into this is quite impressive. Some of the pieces were laid into patterns like the ones I photographed, but with the others, Renninger bound together hundreds of pieces of fragile porcelain to make it look like bolts of fabric laid out. Two of them were even created to resemble dresses.

If you know me, you know How confused I get while working on a computer. I created this image with Adobe Illustrator by warping and stretching the text. I then created the "mountains" with shapes and the eraser tool and the "sunset" with a square and color gradient. I posted the sketch of it about two weeks ago- it's not perfect but I must say I am getting the hang of Computer Art!

Blind contour is a classic drawing exercise for beginning and advanced artists. It is a line drawing created without looking at the paper. Instead, the artist focuses on the subject. This is my blind contour portrait from drawing class. Blind contours are not always what most people would consider "pretty", but I really enjoy the fun and carefree process of creating them and the outcome is always interesting.

This semester I'm taking a computer art class and our first project will be word art. Graphic design is not my strong suit so I'm sketching out my idea first. "Adventure" in the shape of a mountain with a wave for the "r" and "e". It's definitely a rough sketch and needs some work but here we go! "An adventure begins with a first step".

(New Hope Church by Euphus Ruth) I recently visited a Southern Landscape photography exhibit at USM and this was probably my favorite. It is very unique because Euphus uses a early photographic process called wetplate collodion. I read into the process and it seems very tedious but also very interesting. Can you believe this is printed onto glass??

Café cubano reminds me of one of my best friends so I did a water color on paper to have a piece of her with me. Then I matted it on a navy mat board.

This photo was taken in Mobile Alabama by Gordon Parks in 1956. It was on display at the Southern Miss exhibit "Portraits of Southerners." We must not forget where we have came from and how far we have come.

Here we have a sketch of Joshua Tree, CA. I'm thinking of doing watercolor with it. I want to add more detail but I can't decide if I want to leave it a pencil drawing or should I paint?

When life gives you lemons, use a combination of stippling and cross hatching for the shading. I stippled the lemons and used the cross-hatching technique on the dish towel.

Design: "a plan, sketch, or preliminary drawing. the arrangement or pattern of elements or features of an artistic or decorative work." This is step 1 of a design for an outdoor project we will be working on soon. Landscaping is a form of art too right?

Self portrait- I haven't drawn a portrait in a very long time so I'm getting back at it. I see a few elements I need to improve but I am getting there!

This is another art challenge I'm attempting. I've always loved the way folk art looks. So what's better than folk art and my favorite season? I can't think of much. Stay tuned because I have a really good feeling about this acrylic on wood. 🎃🎨

I have a friend who wanted something abstract. She said “I don’t care what you do I just want black and navy lines and gold accents”. So that’s what she is getting and I hope she loves it! This was super fun to create with random lines and splatters. I’m doing a sister piece to pair with it also, so stay tuned!

I have began a weekly art challenge and this week I am working on painting plant life. I began this challenge to brush up on skills I don't use often and to try things I normally avoid. This is what I have so far with my cactus painting. I chose a cactus because I love the texture and colors that are present with desert plants. I used texture paste for the background, the cacti, and the dirt prior to painting. Hopefully it turns out the way I envision it.

If you can't tell, this ink drawing was inspired by California. It is place where I said "I do" and the place where I had my first born. It was the place where I met some of my best friends and the place where I got to see and experience beauty unlike no other. I learned, I grew, and I was inspired. This is my illustration of California.
