Hello. Welcome to the internets. Are you having fun? Do you like the things you are finding here? Remember: everything in moderation, my friend. Enjoy the bottomless enjoyment. Be excellent to each other and party on, dude.
I was inspired to compose a song after reading Eugene Vodolazkin's novel, Laurus. Recorded aforementioned song for a final project in a seminary course. Behold! A rough take of the entire composition (accompanied by occasional melodica and assorted noisemakers).
I had the opportunity to write and perform this song as an interpretive presentation of the sixteenth chapter of the book of Job. Enjoy the following six minutes of musical agony.
Here's a video of a guy sitting on a staircase, banging out an ole Townes Van Zandt cover on his trusty six-string for the recent For the Sake of the Song: Townes Van Zandt Covers Contest put on by Vinyl Me, Please. Thanks, VMP!
There have been a number of big life changes since my last batch of original song recordings titled Goodnight Nobody. This holiday season I wanted to share some of the songs that have been stewing in the interim. This six song set titled All Is Well documents earnest affection for close companions and dark nights of the soul. Two of the songs are inspired by lyrics given to me by an old friend while battling his own demons. This little project has been an opportunity to reacquaint myself with the joys and frustrations of home recording with limited resources in a dark corner of a cluttered room. It has also been an opportunity to shape and find the voice of these songs that have been slowly evolving over the years.
These songs were all performed, recorded, and mixed in December 2017. I screen printed a limited edition of hand made sleeves for the CD version. You can listen and purchase by clicking here.
Ten years ago, I huddled into a corner with my tascam 4-track, peavey amp, crappy gretsch drum kit, geriatric accordion, and a couple of guitars, and recorded this weird little record to give away to people. It was a heavy, HEAVY year... heavy with loss. Little did my partner and I know that she would soon be pregnant with our beautiful daughter after almost giving up hope. Here's to HOPE as we wait together during this Advent season!
Finally dug myself a hole and settled in to record some long incubating compositions. It's nice to make things. This is a peek at one I call "Endless Night." #alliswell
