Hello again. Sorry for not commenting or posting for a while. ‘Hello’ from #mywalkaroundtheisland from last week. Just one more part to go to close my roundtrip from home along the shores of Oosterschelde to the Zeelandbrug and back along the Oosterscheldekering. Tomorrow is a big day. I’ll be off on my own to Albi in the South of France to help a friend and work on her farm. I need some time away and on my own. I do have a period of time in mind but I could extend my stay. In the last eighteen years I’ve gradually stopped being adventurous on my own. Slowly I changed into a scared ‘grey mouse’. Don’t know how this happened. I know this adventure is good for me. A lot of soul searching to do. Getting to know ‘me’ again. Driving there on my own freaks me out. So wish me luck. Picture Home 2, day 13, Things are Looking Up. Well... this was an adventure. First time out for Teddy and Mies for a long time. For weeks we kept the two girls indoors since it has been breeding season. This weekend the girls were allowed out for a while. Teddy is quite the climber and seemed mesmerised by 'things' in the trees. Day 11. Picture Home. A Magical Mystery Tour. This is a photo that I shot after I tried some other ideas. Eric brought this bee people to a new beehive at a friends house last week, a Flow Hive. The bees had been living in a chimney for several years and were lured into a small temporary beehive. It has been quite the experiment since it is almost impossible to get bees out of a chimney alive. That process took three weeks. To see if a queen was laying eggs we had to open the hive again. We found eggs and larvae. I shot some photos of the eggs and suddenly I realised that this is the perfect shot for this prompt. Isn’t it a mystery how bees can build this in the darkness? Picture Home 2, day 10, See Through. Here’s yesterday’s series. What an unexpected and fun way to shoot, through a toilet paper roll. I tried to focus first and put the roll in front of the lens after focussing. With energetic cats that was hard and of course I was determined to get the cats in the image. So I shot through the roll instead. With my Nikon it was not easy to get the effect I had in mind, the inside of the roll a bit more visible. That is why the images are quite dark. I tried shooting through a short and long roll. Maybe I gave up too early. But anyway I love the series that came out of it. Shooting through a roll with my iPhone was way more easy. It's the square image I posted yesterday. Remembrance. Today 40 years ago my mom passed away. That moment it was a turning point in my life that I could never have imagined how at that moment. I wasn’t sure how to spend today. Is it a ‘celebration’? Or is it a day to think back to happy times together? I still don’t know.... It was a peculiar day. Picture Home 2, day 8, Two of a Kind. Goodmorning! Not two of a kind for real. But I find it so sweet that other ducks have been keeping Oelie, our Indonesian walking duck, company on and off for a while now. A male and female Mandarin, who belong to neighbours down the road, and a wild duck are his new friends. They Mandarins only visit us in breeding season, and for the free food I think. And that's ok. Oelie (short for Oelek from Sambal Oelek, his brother was called Sambal, in short Sam) has been feeling lonely since his girlfriend Kopi (coffee) is busy with her ducklings in the temporary coop near the Chickens House. A few weeks ago Oelie sat in front of the kitchen door frequently. Not anymore and now he still hasn't discovered Kopi's whereabouts. Duck couples don't bring up their young together I've been told so I'm happy Oelie has found himself a girlfriend.
