Just watched a video of Erin L Morgan absolutely crushing “Kindergarten Boyfriend” and the only thing I can think is “this woman is too talented for this fuckass score”

Girl on TikTok describing how she would costume Cabaret with Sally and all the Kit Kat Klub dancers as simultaneous marionettes and porcelain dolls - literally suspended from strings and wearing white masks - and all I’m gonna say is, you’re new to costume design and it shows

the extremely expensive bureaucratic nightmare involved with there being a bajillion labor unions all needing to be in agreement for a broadway pro shot to exist is usually the biggest reason why they don’t exist en masse, and people don’t understand that. they just go “just put a camera on a tripod and press record!” and don’t understand that pro shots are matter of labor rights
thank you for writing this so compellingly and concisely. yes exactly. and I don’t expect random laypeople to understand the nuances of this, but it is literally so frustrating to hear “just set up a tripod and press record!” when setting up that camera takes a skilled crew, a dozen extra contracts, and so. much. money. a shocking amount of money. but anyhow, so much of this discourse totally disregards actors as people doing job, and see only the show as a product to be consumed rather than an ephemeral collaboration of not just actors, but artists, and musicians, and board operators, and set builders. I find the response to Likes (who I literally don't care about -- never seen him in anything, have barely heard of him) and the post from the main Heathers account totally absurd and insanely terrible... it's so shocking to see total disregard that these are actors whose sole job it is is to perform the show! who should be adequately compensated for their work! in addition to Likes' (to me, slightly melodramatic, but very true) post, I have seen all over the place online performers like Jasmine Amy Rodgers and Joy Woods posting about how they can see your camera from on-stage, or I believe Jasmine once posted about just minding her business on Instagram and seeing an illegally-filmed clip of her doing Boop!. this should not be happening! how is this all over the place!
and more to the pro-shot thing, people do NOT want to hear that there are tons of rights issues and costs associated that no one thinks about. (the number of times I have seen people asking "why can't they just release the Lincoln Center Archive versions?" makes me want to throw up). I have firsthand seen how much money is sunk into these pro-shots or live-streams which often... simply don't make the money back. it is an excellent thing to do, but theatre is above all else a business, I'm afraid. and it's very unfortunate.

Actually I have never seen a performance of “Life Is A Cabaret” that I’ve enjoyed, live or recorded

I was thinking “We have so many stories about artists who are difficult people but it’s worth it because their art is good. We need a story about artists who are difficult whose art is bad” and then I realized that’s just RENT.

That they put sondheims face on the cover of the obcr of merrily we roll along is objectively hilarious tho. Imagine if they slapped a portrait of Webber on the front of Love Never Dies. Hilarious. I’ll buy ten copies.

victorian trans guy who goes to beloved local barber sweeney todd and presses half a crown in his hand and says “begging your pardon sir, i know it ain’t much but i was hoping you might tell my employer i get me shaves from you should he ever come around. only he’s been asking me how i keep my chin so smooth and i haven’t the heart to tell him i can’t grow a beard, so i might have told him a little lie, sir, and said it’s all due to your wonderful skill, sir” and sweeney todd goes “no problem. by the way would you say your employer deserves to die”

Hello! As the preeminent Parade influencer I’m hoping you can help me with something that’s always confused me. In That’s What He Said why does Jim say that Leo calls Mary “Mary Perkins”? It’s driving me nuts. Thank you!!
it’s actually something the real jim conley said during his testimony, getting her name wrong.

No longer interested in seeing Materialists after finding out that Chris Evans plays an actor who refuses to take film & TV gigs and insists on being a theatre actor ONLY, which means there's officially no world where I can ever root for him

Here is a list of predictions for Light in the Piazza:
Italian family has secret mob connections
The oldest son is illegitimate
Further mishandling of disability + Clara has a breakdown or incident in front of the Italian family
Husband back home is cheating
The children elope
Finding Nemo ending (“I have to let my child go”)
Srsly tho how does everyone keep managing to look at Sondheim’s shows which, more often than not, are written with an ensemble and intricate production design in mind, and go “you know what this show really needs? MINIMALISM”
