AMERICAN IDIOT - Green Day
This is one of my favorite albums of all time, and I'm very happy to be talking about it! American idiot by Green Day was released in September of 2004 and has been the bands most successful album to date. I have always been fascinated by the way this album is set up. It is told as the story of a boy who calls himself the Jesus Of Suburbia. He is a political martyr and a chaotic soul who holds an altered for himself named St. Jimmy. He eventually falls for a girl named Whatsername, but she leaves him very quickly because of his chaotic and dark ways. Jesus Of Suburbia eventually kills off St. Jimmy and then mourns the loss of his love. That's pretty much the entire story. The album starts off with American Idiot, a kind of aggressive song where the bands members, guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong, bassist Mike Dirnt, and Drummer Tre Cool, openly criticize the government and express their hatred for pretty much all of American politics. Then we go into Jesus Of Suburbia, where our title character makes his grand debut in this 9 and a half minute long opera, saying how he is "the son of rage and love". Next we have the double song of Holiday and Boulevard of Broken Dreams. Holiday is another song where politics are shunned and martyrs are pretty much screamed at. Boulevard of Broken Dreams is the biggest song from the album, and it was considered an emo anthem for most teens since the albums release. Following that, we have the combined opera of Are We The Waiting and St. Jimmy. In this song we are introduced to the chaos that is St. Jimmy, who describes himself as "a son of a bitch and Edgar Allen Poe" and "the patron saint of the denial with an angel face and a taste for suicidal". Then, Jesus of Suburbia meets Whatsername. In a three song long relationship, Give Me Novocaine, She's A Rebel, and Extraordinary Girl, he goes through the emotional rollercoaster of a relationship that is the one he's in. Then we come to Letterbomb, where Whatsername decides to leave Jesus of Suburbia because she can't stand him anymore. The next song is Wake Me Up When September Ends, and this is the only song that doesn't fit into the narrative of the story. The guitarist and lead vocalist, Billie Joe Armstrong, wrote this emotional song about the passing of his father. After we let down our guards for this sad song, we are immediately hit in the balls with the rock opera Homecoming. In this song, St. Jimmy is killed by Jesus of Suburbia and he is let in a lonely state of regret and loss. The last song of the album is entitled Whatsername, and this is a phenomenal breakup song where Jesus of Suburbia explores his regrets and how he can never seem to forget the time he spent with her. At the end of this epic album, listeners are left speechless and wanting to hear more. I love this album and would recommend it to anyone and everyone. See you next time where we will talk about When Facing The Things We Turn Away From by Luke Hemmings!

CLANCY - twenty one pilots
twenty one pilots is a band we will be talking about a lot here, and what better way to start than with their most recent album Clancy. Clancy came out in May of this year, and is defiantly a fan favorite among the skeleton clique. The overall aesthetic and energy of the album is very bright but at the same time laid back, and that's what attracted a lot of people. Kicking things off with Overcompensate, we are introduced to the character of Clancy, who we stay with through the entire album and is integrated into the TOP lore. Then with songs like Next Semester, Vignette, and Navigating, Tyler Joseph takes anyone listening on a wild ride with electrifying synths, driving bass and guitar, and of course the unstoppable drums of Josh Dun :). On tracks like Oldies Station, Snap Back, and The Craving, the energy is taken down for some very personal and deeply emotional stories and songs (through the lyrics are deep throughout the entire album). On the song Oldies Station, Tyler talks about how he is doing and his mental state. The entire bridge makes me cry every time I listen to it. The other songs on the album, such as Midwest Indigo, Routines in the Night, Backslide and At The Risk Of Feeling Dumb, people listening get to smile, vibe, and just have an all around good time with these amazing songs. And then of course there is Paladin Strait. That song ends the album and ties together pieces of lore from past albums that we will of course be discussing later. Overall, I give Clancy very high approval rating. Stay tuned for next time where we will be talking about American idiot by Green Day!
