Surigao City is popularly known as the City of Island Adventure and considered a haven of leisure and adventure because of its panoramic islands with long stretches of pristine white sand and beaches, mystical caves, vast mangrove forests and under water sceneries. The City of Surigao nestles along northernmost tip of the province of Surigao del Norte where mountains and hills are prominent indentions throughout the coast. It is bounded on the north and east by the hinatuan passage and on the south by tagana-an. Surigao City is noted for it's proximity to the almost fathomless underwater gorge, the "Philippine Deep", which is one of the deepest portions in the Pacific Ocean, including all other oceans in the world.

The Bonok-Bonok Festival "Marajao Karajao Festival" features a ritual dance that originated from the early settlers of Surigao, the Mamanwas. The dance's rhythm begins with slow beat that gradually get faster. One of the main attraction of the dance is the colorful raiment used, the ceremonial dress of men and women is ornate in design with various colors.
