I've always felt Maedhros has an ache no one else can sooth when he's reborn in Valinor because very few can understand or comprehend the experience of having a mortal die and not come back.

Elros was no elf. He is not trapped in the Halls. His fea--spirit (Maedhros reminds himself that his son was human)--visited Maedhros briefly in the Halls and left.

No lurking in the shadows like his father or brothers. Not running away from his mother and father like Maeglin. No being unmade and remade like Celebrimbor.

Elros was gone. Dead.

And in Valinor, when they're remade, Elros still dead.

Maedhros's son is dead.

And all the time Maedhros spent denying their connection, stewing in his guilt, and putting a wall between them stings even more.

He remembers the haze that was his time in Mandos. Elros's spirit visiting him for a brief second, whispering words in his ears that he was too damaged to hear.

Word's he'll never comprehend.

It is a strange place to be in. An immortal elf who lost a mortal son. A son he doesn't acknowledge until it's too late.

Of Celebrimbor & Orodreth.

has anyone thought about Celebrimbor/Orodreth?

I firmly believe it would be adorable, though also kind of sad.

We imagine them courting each other, Orodreth presenting Tyelpe with flowers while Tyelpe creates jewelry for his beloved. Their relationship is actually well received among the people of Nargothrond, although Curufin and Finrod have their doubts, both are happy.

The years go by and after their marriage they both join their family with little Finduilas, some whisper that she has the courage of prince Fëanáro and the kindness of prince Arafinwë, Finduilas is well received, a symbol of hope, they love her.

Then the inevitable happens, Nargothrond falls, Orodreth and Finduilas depart to the halls leaving behind Celebrimbor who falls into a terrible depression for what happened.

When Sauron arrives to Celebrimbor he knows about Orodreth, that is why he takes the appearance of an elf with golden hair, slender, with a comforting smile on his face and a soft touch, without thinking that this being would end up ruining him completely. Orodreth receives his beloved Tyelpe in the halls on the other side of the sea, while he silently promises to make Sauron suffer as soon as he has the chance.
