âSo⊠she tricked you then?â Natalie asked, a frown forming on her lips. It just didnât seem right for him to think that this vampire really wasnât going to hurt anyone else and would just feed from him. âWell, Iâm glad you managed to get away from her and are safe now.â As he asked her about what got her here, Natalie knew that really it wasnât anything bad he was doing. After all, he had told her all about how he got here. Still, she nodded, battling away the tears that threatened to form. âIt wasâŠâ She whispered. âIt was horrible⊠I can still hear everythingâŠâ The screams of her family as they were torn limb from limb.Â
âThanks, I am too. Itâs a real breath of fresh air being here,â he agreed with a nod. Jonas could tell the topic was already starting to put Natalie in a bad state of mind and now he felt bad for asking about it. âWe donât have to talk about it if you donât want to. I get how something like that would be a particularly hard thing to get into,â he assured her, his voice still low and gentle as he considered reaching out to touch her arm or shoulder comfortingly, but decided against it in case it would make her uncomfortable.

survivornatalie:
âYeah, there was nothing to make sure that she didnât go feed from other people.â Natalie told him, frowning slightly. âI know it wasnât your fault, but from what Iâve learned here I know that not all vampires would be happy with feeding from the same person over and over again, no matter how willing the person would be.â She told him, but felt a little bad. Clearly this was weighing heavy on him and she felt terrible to expose this to him. âIt was noble of you though.â She whispered. His question made her freeze, and her heart started to pound in her chest. Of course he would ask why she was here. It was a normal question since she as a human was a rarer sight around here. âI uh⊠um⊠I was attacked⊠by a werewolf.â She whispered, looking down.Â
âYeah, I know that about vampires now, but she was the first vampire I had ever met and I think she knew that so she just kind of let me believe what I thought made sense. But you live and you learn,â he sighed with a shrug before noticing her distressed reaction to his question. He had definitely hit a nerve with that one. âOh my god, really? That must have been terrible, Iâm sorry,â he said sympathetically, his voice only a step above a whisper, almost as if talking about it quietly would make it easier to talk about for Natalie.

survivornatalie:
âBut⊠thatâs insane.â Natalie whispered, shaking her head. âShe was a vampire. And I donât know much about them, but Iâm learning. But what I do know is that most of them wouldnât be happy with just one person giving them blood, no matter how willing. How do you know she wouldnât have just turned around and go out and feed from others too?â Natalie asked, looking at him and suddenly feeling very bad for everything he went through. His heart had been in the right place, but it hadnât seemed to matter. He should have thought of himself more. And now he was here and hurt and on the run because of the situation his big heart got him into. âI think I would have run away.â Natalie told him, casting her eyes down for a moment. Vampires werenât the creatures she feared, that was werewolves, but she was sure that if she had met vampires in a different way than the one that she did, she would have run away screaming. âYeah, I think some food could do you some good.â Natalie followed after him. âItâs okay, I was never too much of a chatterbox, but now it seems I am even less so.â She bit her bottom lip and looked away.Â
âWishful thinking, I guess. It was pretty naive of me, in retrospect,â he answered simply. âYouâre right though, I donât know that she didnât just go out and feed from others when I wasnât looking,â he agreed, though the thought made his heart sink into his stomach since it hadnât even crossed his mind before. He really had thought that his being consistently available would have limited Graceâs urges to go feed from other people. âWell, youâve heard pretty much my whole story. Do you mind if I ask what yours is? Like, how you ended up here?â he asked as they walked, a little tired of hearing himself talk and, though she said she wasnât a chatterbox, he did still want to know what had brought Natalie to Drummondâs, or anything else she wanted to talk about.

survivornatalie:
Natalie blinked when he laughed, the sound causing her to come out of her thoughts. She realized she had called him stupid, but at least he wasnât angry with her. In fact, he seemed amused. âThat wasâŠ. big of you.â She almost wanted to say stupid again. He had been her living feed bag and she had used him. She frowned, not liking to think how easy it would have been for the vampire to kill him by sucking him dry. In fact, he looked a little weak and drained already, and he was away from her now. âIt wouldnât have benefitted you, though.â Natalie told him, frowning slightly. âI would have ran away. Especially given how dangerous the supernatural can be.â Truth be told, she trusted the vampires more than the werewolves, she was friends with a few of them here. âWell, you should probably get some water and food in your system. Do you want to go to the cafeteria?âÂ
âYeah, I didnât gain anything from it except peace of mind from knowing Grace wasnât out hurting other people. I know, itâs kind of ridiculous but thatâs just kind of the way I tend to think things through.â He shrugged again and brought a hand up to rub the back of his neck with an almost embarrassed chuckle. âI put so much thought into making sure everyone else is okay that I tend to forget about myself altogether,â he admitted a little sheepishly. He drove himself crazy with that part of himself, and seeing as he was aware of it he always thought he should be able to stop himself from doing things like this, but he never had been able to figure out how to do that. âI wouldnât blame you or anyone else for running away from something like that, it was pretty bad,â he told her understandingly before putting a hand to his stomach when she mentioned food. âYou know, thatâs probably a good idea,â he agreed with a nod. âI feel like Iâve been doing most of the talking, Iâm sorry if itâs boring you,â he apologized as he slipped his hands in his pockets and started walking. He didnât usually talk about himself so much and especially not about what happened with Grace because he was sure anyone else would think he was crazy, but being in essentially a supernatural safe haven made it easier to get it off his chest...though he still felt bad for hogging the conversation.

survivornatalie:
âI hope so too⊠from what youâve told me, it doesnât sound like you will be too safe if she shows up.â Natalie murmured, at least understanding the weight of the situation he was in. But when she asked why he didnât just leave when he found out what she really was, she could tell that she had struck some kind of nerve. Or at least asked a question that he seemed to ask himself many times since it had all started. âShe was already hurting people when you found out?â Natalie asked, frowning and still not understanding why that hadnât been a red flag for him. âWhy didnât you leave when you first found out that she was a vampire⊠a mythical and scary creature?â Hadnât he, as a human, found that beyond scary? She hadnât reacted well to the discovery of the supernatural, but things hadnât worked out when she learned about it considering she was suffering from a werewolf attack. âYou were extremely selflessâŠ. but yes, very stupid.â She nodded, though her voice was gentle. He seemed like he just cared for everyone else so much.Â
Jonas couldnât help but chuckle a little more genuinely when Natalie agreed with him and also said that he was stupid. The gentle, almost careful way she said it helped it not feel like she was rubbing it in. âI figured she deserved the benefit of the doubt. Like I said, she hadnât done anything to hurt me personally, and I figured if I was desperate for a food source, it might lead me to do things that could hurt others too. It was just a more severe consequence in her case. So I thought if I could help and give her a constant and reliable source, it would benefit pretty much everyone in the long run,â he explained before sighing heavily. No amount of wishful thinking like that would ever have changed a thing about what happened. âAnd finding out about her being a vampire took me a little while to get used to, so it wasnât like I found out and just immediately accepted it, but it was also one of the most interesting things that had ever happened to me, so I kind of wanted to see where it would go,â he added with a slight eye roll at himself, knowing now that the situation being interesting really had not been worth sticking around for.

survivornatalie:
âI⊠I didnât know you could even do that.â She murmured, bitting her bottom lip. This whole world, this world of the supernatural had been opened wide after the attack that she somehow survived. Natalie still had no idea how it had even happened, what had aligned in the universe to allow her to live. But now she knew all about the creatures that lurked in the shadows and she wasnât exactly excited with all of the new knowledge. âThat was noble of you.â She told him, thinking of how many people he had probably saved. âBut⊠if you knew she was a vampire, how come you stayed with her?â Natalie still didnât understand how he hadnât gone running for the hills in fear. âIâm human too.â Natalie hadnât come here knowing what this place was. Unlike him, she had been brought here. But it seemed that they were both somehow safer here, despite the fact that they were human and surrounded by supernatural creatures. âIf she hurt you by feeding from you so often, how come you offered to continue to let others feed from you here? You know you could make it stop.â Or, at least she hoped that he would be able to.Â
âWell, she hasnât showed up here yet, so Iâm just hoping that lasts,â he added with another sigh. He nodded his head understandingly at her question, because sometimes he was really kicking himself for not doing just that. He should have bolted from Grace as soon as she told him what she was. âWell, she hadnât done anything to hurt me yet when I first found out, and I wanted to be sympathetic to the fact that she was just trying to survive. But the fact that she was hurting people to do it should have been a pretty big red flag, I know,â he elaborated with an almost defeated tone. In retrospect, it hadnât been the smartest thing for him to ignore the very clear warning signs about what Grace what capable of and apparently very willing to do. âI thought by letting her depend on me, it was helping keep more innocent people from getting hurt by her. I was just too focused on keeping everyone else safe that I managed to ignore the damage she was doing to me for too long. Probably a little stupid on my part there,â he commented lightly, almost with a joking tone, albeit a very half-hearted one with how true he actually thought that statement to be.

âYou⊠were in a relationship⊠with a vampire?â Natalie repeated back, the wonder and confusion on her face acting like he was speaking gibberish to her. How could⊠a human be in a relationship with a vampire? He rubbed his neck, and she watched him, her eyes still clouded with confusion. âWait⊠she hurt you?â That sounded horrible. âHow⊠how did you get away if she would always track you down?â Natalie glanced around suddenly, unsure like he was if the vampire who abused him would track him down and find him here. What would happen to him? Would he have to stay here forever just to be kept safe from the vampire who wanted to find him?
âYeah, it was kind of a mess. I guess she was a younger vampire because she had really bad impulse control, so when I found out she was a vampire and usually fed off of strangers, I told her she could feed from me so innocent people wouldnât get hurt,â he explained softly, never being good at talking about what Grace did to him. âWell she had a friend who had been here before and they told her it was a great place to go if any supernatural beings were ever in trouble, and - while Iâm just a human - I figured since my situation involved a vampire, I might at least get some help here. And Colton actually had some sort of spell put on the place specifically so she canât find it. Or me,â he finished before letting out a heavy sigh. Anytime he thought about it, he couldnât help but worry about the possibility of the magic losing itâs effect and being found again. He didnât have anywhere else to run after Drummondâs End if Grace caught up with him again.

âWell I was in a really rough relationship with an extremely possessive vampire for a while, so I get my blood drawn because Iâm not sure Iâm ready to handle being fed from directly again just yet,â he explained as he brought a hand up and absentmindedly rubbed the spot on his neck that his ex used to feed from. âSheâs who Iâm being kept safe from, actually,â he added with a sigh, an anxious look crossing his face as he thought about what the odds were of him being found. âShe never wanted me to leave her, and any time I tried to, she would track me down no matter where I went.â

âSo⊠like the Red Cross blood donation, but on a more⊠intense level.â Natalie murmured, figuring that it sounded a lot harder. Especially since the clients would be supernatural creatures instead of humans. She felt a little better now that she knew he wasnât a werewolf and that he wouldnât hurt her. Natalie didnât want to run into another one. âWell⊠you should eat now.â Natalie told him, trying to remember the last time she donated blood. âAnd drink lots of water.â
âExactly, thatâs a pretty simple and accurate comparison. And you can choose how you want to do it so itâs ideal; you can have your blood drawn by a phlebotomist like at a regular doctor, or you can let a vampire feed directly from you if youâre comfortable with that. I figured it was a worthwhile thing to be a part of while Iâm here since Iâm being kept safe,â he explained with a shrug before nodding lightly in agreement. âYeah, I will. The last thing I need to do is pass out right now.â

Natalie stared at him, her eyes wide as she readied herself to bolt as soon as she got a chance. That was, if he was a werewolf since the thought of someone being that sent her whole body on edge.Â
But as he spoke, she let out a sigh of relief and leaned against the wall to support herself. He wasnât a werewolf. She was safe. She was safe for a moment when she was with him. âThe blood⊠donor program?â She asked, understanding the words, but not understanding the meaning. âYou shouldnât donate blood on an empty stomach. Thatâs⊠thatâs dangerous.â She murmured, trying to wrap her mind around what he was telling her.Â
âYeah, itâs something they have here at Drummondâs. Itâs for anyone who needs blood either as sustenance or because theyâve been injured, it just depends. I think itâs primarily for vampires to be able to feed safely though,â he explained, trying to make it sound as mundane as possible to hopefully freak her out less. âI know I should have eaten first, but I havenât given blood in a while so I was a little rusty and forgot my old habits. I used to be a donor for one particular vampire a while back,â he elaborated with a small shrug.

âYeah, itâs nice.. I havenât been a wolf long enough to really know how to control it, and Iâve never been around other wolves. Thatâs something that I really hope to find here too..a mentor. You donât happen to know any wolves do you?â she laughed, only partially joking. âMy empath powers though, those are another story altogether. Leave it to me to be saddled with something extraâ she sighed, her smile wry. She tilted her head, looking at Jonas curiously. What was his story, she wondered. Why would he want to be a blood donor?
Qhuinn laughed softly at his look of surprise, feeling rather proud of herself. âI dunno..you just had this smart look about youâ she replied, her nose crinkling in a grin as she got more excited. It made her feel more comfortable and relaxed, to be talking about her favorite subject with a nice man. One who she could tell wouldnât try and hurt her. âOkay do me now! What house do you think Iâm in?â
âNo, I canât say I do. Iâm still getting to know the place so I havenât had much chance to get to know everyone else and find out what they are yet,â Jonas answered with a small chuckle. âThat hardly sounds like something youâd be âsaddledâ with. That sounds like a pretty helpful extra bonus, if you ask me. But then again, Iâm not in your shoes, so I guess itâs not really my place to say,â he commented with a small shrug and an almost apologetic smile, hoping that wasnât a presumptuous thing to say.
He looked at Qhuinn thoughtfully for a long moment as he tried to figure guess what her Hogwarts house would be when she prompted him. âHmmm...this isnât exactly my strong suit. Iâd say...Gryffindor or Hufflepuff?â he guessed with little confidence, but enjoying the topic at hand.

âSorry,â Astrid said, not looking particularly sorry, but still holding out the small cup of orange juice. âDrink this, you need the sugar, not fizzy.â she said as she almost waved the cup towards him. âTömma. Drink.â she gestured to the cup before setting it on the floor and disappearing. She walked back to where she had gotten the orange juice and grabbed a second cup and a cookie from the plate next to the tray of cups of juice. She walked back to the bathroom and squatted down next to him again. âHere.âÂ
Jonas reached out and took the cup of orange juice with a sigh, taking a small sip when he was instructed to do so. âThanks,â he called after her when she started to walk away, not expecting her to come back. He took another sip of the juice and leaned his head back against the wall, more pleasantly surprised than startled when she walked back into the room and handed him a cookie. âOh, thanks again. I have to remember to do this before I get my blood drawn next time,â he replied gratefully with a small smile before taking a good sized bite from the cookie, closing his eyes with a contented sigh. Yeah, he definitely should have had a snack first.Â

nursexqhuinn:
âYou say âjust a humanâ like itâs a bad thingâ Qhuinn chuckled softly, kicking her legs lightly under her chair, her Deathly Hallows/Pink Floyd rainbow Converses flashing under the fluorescent lights. âWell I certainly donât have a problem telling anyone what I am. Hiding it doesnât exactly make it go away, you know. Itâs just my..other powers..that I end to kind of hide. Badlyâ she smirked. When Jonas admitted to being a Potter fan, she could have hugged him. But refrained because yeah..that would have been weird. It was just so nice to have already found someone she had something in common with. Made her feel like maybe she really did have a chance of making friends here.Â
âSo whatâs your house? No wait..let me guess. Iâm usually pretty good at this. Ravenclaw?â
Jonas also chuckled lightly at Qhuinnâs comment about him being human. She had a cheerfulness to her that was kind of contagious and it was helping him feel more comfortable already. âWell, I guess itâs a good thing that you managed to find this place where you shouldnât have to hide any special powers you have here,â he pointed out with a friendly smile. While not everyone at Drummondâs End seemed like they were exactly in the best condition, he could still tell this place was probably better for them than just about anywhere else in the world.
He raised his eyebrows and his mouth fell open slightly when she guessed his Hogwarts house before letting out a small scoff of disbelief. âWow, youâre good. I am a Ravenclaw,â he confirmed excitedly, genuinely impressed by the fact that she got his house after barely talking to him for five minutes.

Natalie watched him slowly, still staying back a little. She wasnât sure who he was⊠or even what species he was. The fact that he could be a werewolf made her scared. Trying to control her breathing, she held on to the door frame and watched him drink the water and sit down. âG-glad I could help.â Her voice was quiet and a little fearful. âIâm⊠Iâm Natalie. Y-you arenât a w-werewolf, are you?âÂ
Jonas looked up at the girl when he heard the nervousness, or it may have even been full-on fear, in her voice. She was clearly uncomfortable, and when she asked her question, he was pretty sure he knew why now.Â
âNo no, Iâm not a werewolf. Iâm just a human,â he told her reassuringly, hoping the fact that he wasnât any kind of supernatural creature might put her at ease. âIâm part of the blood donor program here and I forgot to eat before getting my blood drawn, so it just made me feel sick for a while,â he explained, thinking that her knowing that he was also in a slightly more vulnerable state would possibly make her feel like she had the upper hand, or at least that she didnât have to be afraid of him.

âHave you read them?â she asked as she looked at him with a smile. âIâm really excited to read them, I hear they really good,â she said as they walked to the library. âHave you seen the library yet, itâs three stories tall!â she said excitedly as she described the library.Â
Jonas lit up with excitement when Shelley described the library and let out a small chuckle of disbelief. âWow, three stories?? Thatâs awesome, it would take a long time to get through everything in there, so that must be great for anyone here whoâs immortal,â he thought aloud while also wondering what the odds were of him being able to get through the entirety of the library.Â
âBut yeah, the Harry Potter series is great. Thatâs one Iâm always willing to go back and read again if I canât decide on something new to read. Itâs one of my favorites,â he told her with a nod, trying to contain his enthusiasm for the series.
