thinking ab jonathan protecting will from lonnie; turning up the music when mom and dad are fighting, trying to break that generational abuse by becoming what lonnie never wanted to be for either of his sons. and he succeeds, for the most part, so as a result you get a will who tries to play baseball, even if that's not what he likes... he doesn't hate it. and he doesn't hate his father either. bc he doesn't realize that not everyone has to be desperate for their father's love; not everyone has to hide who they are, or else their father won't love them back. his brother and mom shield him from the truth, so now he's not left with the seething hatred they both hold towards lonnie byers, but a hole, an inexplicable feeling that he's missing something. jonathan sees this and wants to tell will the truth, knows will deserves better, deserves what he's been trying to give him since mom told him he was gonna have a little brother; that's why he checks on lonnie when will disappears, bc he knows will. but he also knows lonnie. so he checks the trunk.

on a more serious note i just don’t see how jonathan dying would be satisfying in any way, even putting aside whether you actually like jonathan as a character his story is directly intertwined with nancy, will, joyce, and el (id argue hopper to an extent because well jopper) it’d just be meh to me (i do think he will get serious injured tho, usually him or steve get serious hurt within a season)

That’s why I love strangers things it’s not clique it has realness to it someway. Not being able to see/understand byler is lowkey understandable at a certain point. For the GA its heteronormativity's fault and also the fact that for someone who isnt queer or doesnt have media literacy most of the queercoding was very subtle.

BUT

If you dont understand how Jancy is even possible and think that Steve was a better bf to Nancy than Jonathan thats where you have a problem.

You didnt understand SHIT about the characters and the show itself.
