i think we should extend a little more grace to people who were indoctrinated who have realized their way of thinking is wrong/harmful/problematic and are now doing the work to unlearn large portions of their belief system

What is your favorite platonic TMI ship?
Izzy and Clary because I love that Clary was allowed to be sexist at first and her faults on clear display and then to overcome that and grow as a person until she was able to be pretty great friends with Izzy. I feel like there’s a lot of growth in their relationship in general.
Also that both are allowed to exist how they are (Izzy a more hyper-feminine person and Clary more ‘tomboy’ feminine for lack of better word) without either having to ‘bring the other to the light’ (because the proverbial light does not exist, femininity is not tied to morality or Worth). That their friendship lets women exist in both forms without fighting or having to put the other down in order to validate their expression, and dismantling this weird trope where the more masculine woman is the good choice and the hyper feminine woman is a bad person, impure sexually, or other ridiculous things - especially in movies, thinking of parent trap rn but so many others.
So that why I love them, because I used to be like Clary in book one and Isabelle Lightwood was a big step forwards for me to shedding that gross brainwashing against women like her, and therefore women.

Sorry this isn't TMI related, but have you read Six of Crows? I feel like you would love it :)
I haven’t read it! Funnily enough I have the book on my bookshelf! No idea how it got there because I didn’t buy it, it was you who put it there wasn’t it 😑
Also this is so sweet I’m gonna cry, who needs a boyfriend when your moots think of a book and then think of recommending it to you ❤️

Luke was LITERALLY the other half of his soul, he will literally never know or love anyone as deeply as he did Luke, it was a bond through the soul, they had to pass the parabatai test, at some point Valentine would have died for Luke. I think Jocelyn was more of an obsession or a ‘trophy’ to fit his idealized life, he loved her as a wife and nothing more, he loved Luke entirely at one point

TSC CHARACTERS AND HOW OFTEN I THINK THEY CRY ABOUT THEIR DEAD PARABATI
Luke about Valentine - once every month, when he wakes up early and hears the deafening silence of the country morning.
Robert about Micheal - Once a year, when the spring comes around and a bee lands on a flower in the garden.
Jem about Will - everyday. it’s exhausting, it’s relentless, it’s exactly like him.

It's Pride and I have a story to tell.
I used to be somewhat homophobic when I was younger, around 10- 12. Somehow, somewhere, I had learnt being queer was 'wrong', and I had learnt to internally make faces whenever the topic came up. I kept my thoughts to myself, but I thought nonetheless.
I was also (still am) an avid reader. And one day, I picked up a random series. A few books in, a queer character came out. He had, up until that point, been one of my favourite characters. So I didn't dnf, just skipped past scenes where he expressed romantic thoughts towards men. I did this uo until there was a chapter I couldn't skip if I wanted the lore, so I read it and something clicked. It didn't cure my homophobia, but I no longer avoided books with queer characters.
A few months after this, I picked up the Mortal Instruments. And in came Alec, and Magnus too. This time, I wasn't fazed and kept on reading and this time, I had more epiphanies. And through six books, bit by bit, I unlearnt what I had learnt. By the time I finished CoHF, I had worked through my homophobia and had become an ally (or so I thought).
And it was because I had done this that a few years after this, when I realized I was not as straight as I thought I was, I had not as much trouble as I would have if I hadn't put in the work. Because I had read and unlearnt and learnt and made an effort to change, I never had to feel like I was being 'unnatural'. Those books saved my life. And I have never related so much to a book quote as when Tessa said that we should be careful of books because they can change us. Books did change me, and for the better and I'll be eternally grateful for them.
Now obviously, those years, I was not a great person in this regard. And there's no undoing that. But because I have changed, it gives me hope that the rest of the world can too.
That is a phenomenal story, and I think it is beyond imperative that more like these are shared. I'm glad that you are able to point out such a frowned upon thing like being homophobic (rightly so to be frowned upon, don't misconstrue my words) because it opens up for such a productive conversation and space for a lot of other people to admit that to themselves in a space where they will not be immediately ridiculed, and therefore have the ability to really look at it in the face, comforted to explore a facet of themself knowing someone else has too. This is why I personally believe it is so important to have empathy with everyone, even people who are homophobic, because hate and shame gets no one anywhere, in fact there are so many studies that it shuts down any production in educating or explaining. It was your empathy that allowed you to see that flaw and poke at it because it was rooted in hate or ignorance. Now imagine a bunch of people being able to read that, knowing they would be able to talk to you about their own internalized homophobia because by sharing that experience, you make it safer to share theres, and now we have a ball rolling because in that space there can be honesty where it can't exist in a hostile one. Its a great cycle.
I also had to look at myself alot, especially with internalized misogyny and homophobia, and it wasn't until I could stop defending these beliefs and someone was able to open that space, through books, through conversation, through characters that's existence made me question myself, that I was better able to knock down or even see those beliefs. Sorry for going on a whole tangent lol, but I really do appreciate your story, and I hope others too will be able to see it and turn inwards. And just as a sidenote, so this isn't taken the wrong way, when I eariler said I believe empathy is important even for homophobes and the like, I do not believe empathy means justification. Empathy and accountability can and do coexist, accountability is a fundamental part of empathy. That was a fun rant, and a great story, thanks

What character do you think Valentine would get if he gave the "which shadowhunters character are you" quiz? (Besides himself)
Clary Fairchild. They are extremely similar in many ways, certainly like father like daughter, I think thats why he immediately dislikes her so much. I could go on and on about all of their parallels, and... perpendiculars? But even their perpendiculars are rooted in the same fundamental character design

idk this i’m sure is common but i love the thoughts inside your brain soooo… your magnus and alec headcanons?
I'm honestly not much of a malec fan, I didn't like the whole Camile and Alec line, so this is gonna be kinda hard lol. I typically do more circle orientated stuff
Keep in mind I haven't read the books in like 5 years and I don't read ff with them in it so I am NOT up to date on them
Alec: He really has a problem when things don't go how he envisioned it because he's a control freak and paranoid, a lot about his sexuality obviously, so he has a big problem when he cannot control a situation or narrative. He needs the problems with Jace and Izzy because it keeps him moving and busy, and avoidant of his own problems and internalized issues. He compartmentalizes. His ugly sweaters are a shield and representative of his own view of himself, his parents are Lightwoods and rich, theres no reason to be wearing old shirts especially with all of his SH elitism in CoB. Idk I don't think much about Alec, if I tried to throw some real brain power I could come up with something cool but I socialized all day so I'm wiped
Magnus: Idk honestly. Shitting out my mouth here. He's feels more like a... device to me. To forward the plot with SH or to be Alec's problematic boyfriend to foward Alec's growth. I never really connected to him, sadly, though I think he's hilarious, I just wished he was more... real when it came to Alec. Had more issues, was more reticent to open his heart, more put off by him being a Lightwood. Ok headcannons no more yap: He's a late sleeper because sunrises make him too nostalgic/whatever that quiet feeling is in the morning and he doesn't want to have any quiet time where he can think about past people he's loved and lost. A lot of his life revolves around controlling his mind, or rather avoiding circumstances that will bring foward things he doesn't want to deal with; loss, the promise of loss, his father, unpleasant moments from his life. That's why he's constantly throwing parties and has glitter and bright things everywhere, to keep him present and distracted. He wears crop tops often to show off his lack of belly button to show an 'I don't care what you think' persona, especially around SH. Idk. I'm out. I know those were all basically the same thing oops

If there were a Luke-themed museum, what kind of stuff would they sell in the gift shop?
All clothes flannel colored. Catch-22 because its his favorite book. Me because I'm his girlfriend. Tiger's eye crystal cause he's a Capricorn (I wanted to give you more interesting stuff lol) Duo plushies/toys because when he was a kid he would play with Amatis. Childrens books for Clary/kiddos. Mock bow and arrow because it was best weapon. Of course, a wolf plushie. Paintings of mountain landscapes/wilderness because he loved hiking and often visited the White Mountains in New Hampshire between the years he wasn't with Jocelyn. And finally, a good pair of work boots.
