Challenges with Implications
My client has taken a very weak social media presence, and turned into a small community. That was the overall goal of my client project and I am very proud of how they turned out. Now to continue this community may be the most difficult task that my client faces. My client started with many connections and had a base following of very relatable people all in the same place. The connections were easy to make when my client presented them a medium to interact through, which was their Facebook page. However, to continue to be relevant in my client’s customers eyes is a constant battle. New content is needed regularly, check up on comments and likes, responding to messages, and growing to other platforms of social media are just a few of the challenges that my client faces. New technology is daunting to them and without proper guidance they could lose touch very quickly. They have a strong understanding of Facebook, but beyond that platform it is french to them. To implement my idea of expanding to Instagram may be difficult without outside help. I still believe that this strategy would work well but I am skeptical of how they will achieve this goal. In general, i am happy with my clients current status and believe I made a difference In their social media presence.

Ethical decisions in Social Media
Social media platforms have been ingrained into today’s society, and it is almost necessary to have a social media presence. If you do not use them you could miss out connecting with friends and family, not see current events, and even could lose some job opportunities if your social media is not up to the companies standards. With all these variables it is difficult to say that people have freedom to post anything they want without and consequences. Not just from their public appearance, but from the social media company themselves. Obviously there are professional decisions every person should make to have an acceptable page on any platform. However, this could mean not posting particular opinions because they could bring outside employers to rethink about hiring them. Platforms also try to censor political ads and some viewpoints but this is a slippery slope to determine what could be considered political. If censoring starts getting out of hand then users lose their sense of freedom or even the ability to express their opinions. I fully agree with GDPR and if believe it should be integrated into the United States. If you collect data on a consumer you should have to be held responsible for protecting this information. It should also be collected in an ethical way, and under the knowledge of the consumer. It is important for the consumer to know they have rights to their own personal information, and this information is growing everyday on every single person that uses modern technology. Today’s society is run by data, people are always providing this data, and we need to regulate this transaction immediately or else the future could have many complications.

Big Date. Big Problems
Information has become a staple in today’s society. With the ease of access to all of this information companies should be aware of how they use this data. A big part of this is hacking. In the lecture’s case it was Home Depot cards, and millions of accounts with their information were stolen. Security should be a large concern for companies now. They have information to do business with consumers that could be detrimental to their customers if their accounts are mishandled. Thus, big companies should make sure that the process of collecting, using, and storing this data is completely secure. Consumers should understand where they are putting their information, and that a sense of privacy is not always a given. The best way to balance big data is to always make sure its secure. Then companies should not be allowed to sell consumer information without their consent. Also, the consumer should have the right to know what information a company has on them personally. They should be able edit this information whenever they please, but this also posses some threats. Companies cannot control who buys this information and they have no idea where it goes when its sold, and this process can happen multiple times. Consumers now are losing trust in companies because of big data, therefore, they should be conscious of how they use this data and their future endeavors need to have a plan on how to handle this situation.

Big Data Brings Big Problems
It is difficult to imagine how much of our information is being tracked. From our phones, computers, credit cards, and online presence we always have eyes on us. Companies that we use on a daily basis collects this information from us. By being a consumer in today's society we are exposing ourselves to a breach in our privacy. The worst part is we don’t even know when it is happening, and we have no control on where it goes. These big data companies are paying large amounts of money to acquire our information. This may seem harmless when their goal is to better advertise to us, but where is the line going to be drawn? If they know our location, how much money we have spent in the last month, and what we are currently talking about it seems like they have control on what we see. By knowing us almost down to over own thoughts, these companies can create the perfect advertisements for us, or they could even manipulated us into actions we do not want to do. For example, a recovering alcoholic that wouldn’t otherwise look up any kind of alcohol sees an advertisement for bourbon and gets back in the habit. This kind of information cannot be self regulated by these companies and it is a joke if they try to push that argument. It is such a powerful tool that it would be impossible not to abuse. With the creation of the internet, it also brought the need to advertise. To keep the internet free for everyone advertisements were needed to make revenue. This then influenced these advertising companies to create the most effective ads possible. By doing this it put us in the situation of collecting individual consumer essential. And the ways to gather this data are through other companies that have consumers using their products, so buying this information off of the companies would bring even more money for information that is given to them. Privacy should be a priority to make sure people feel safe, I believe this use of information is extremely unethical.

For my social media experiment, I decided to give up my phone entirely. I woke up Saturday morning without an alarm. I took a shower and mowed the lawn. After the lawn was mowed I cleaned out my car and fixed the headlight. At this point I was already struggling because I usually am texting my girlfriend out in North Dakota all day. I told her the day before that I would not be using my phone but I was still worried that she needed to get a hold of me. I decided to work out to get my mind off it but working out without music was not something I was used to. It made the workout grueling and unenjoyable. I had a party that was happening that night and I felt out of the loop of my friends who were for sure talking about it in our group chats. After the workout I helped my dad work on his truck and cleaned up the shop. I didn’t really know what to do because I was just waiting until 6 when I would head to the party. So, I put on college football and took a nap. I was really struggling not to text my friends about the games and trash talk about fantasy teams coming up the next day. The whole time I just wanted to check my phone and be connected to people that weren’t with me. I wanted to look up game times and other things, but I couldn’t without my phone. Music is a big part of my life. People usually have the tv on when they do something, I do the same with music off my phone. The quiet was almost unsettling to me and I was craving to listen to music. I left early to go the party to listen to the radio and pick up my friends. I had to actually go up to their house and get them instead of calling them. Most were confused why I didn’t have my phone to call them and other noted that my phone wasn’t plug into the aux which is the normal spot. Once I was at the party I didn’t notice not having my phone because the people I wanted to talk to where there. However, once I was home the only thing I wanted to do was call my girlfriend to make sure she had a good day. I am obviously reliant on my phone, and I could cut back extensively. But also I think being in contact with people is necessary in today’s society because of how fast people move and make decisions. A phone is needed to keep up with the essential daily information, but there are non-essential uses for it as well.

Undocumented Life
Daily life now is built around technology. I wake up to my phone alarm and look at the group chat of friends I have had since middle school. I would never be able to have these friends without technology because we all go to different schools or work in trades. If we didn’t have phones they would have just some people I knew back home. I then text my girlfriend good morning and ask when she is free to Skype that day. If it weren’t for technology I would have to send letters to North Dakota where she is pursuing her doctorate in clinical psychology. I do my homework, emails, banking, and communicating majority of the time digitally. Social media platforms have created a place for people in my life a way to connect to me without being right in front of me. Without these applications I would be living a completely different way with different friends and a different lifestyle. However, there is no way to unplug from these things without consequences. You could lose touch with friends, miss job opportunities, and even current events. This makes keeping up with all our platforms a constant necessity. I do not enjoy having to do this but society has formed itself around social media to a point where there is no way out of the loop, unless you like log cabins in the woods. (Doesn’t sound to bad to me) My experience without internet was all the way up to high school. I wasn’t allowed to use the computer at home because it was for the family business. I didn’t really have any interest in it but I was obviously curious. During elementary school we had computer classes but we just did what the teacher told us and there was no freedom to explore. Attending elementary school Aol and yahoo messenger was a boom with all my classmates. I wasn’t allowed to have an email but at this point I didn’t care. Middle school was when Facebook hit and this was hard not to be involved in. I was still not allowed to have an email so making a Facebook was out of the question, but I was allowed to do homework on the laptop we now had. I would listen to music but social media was still non-existent to me. Reaching high school I was given a school email and this opened up the option to use social media and I have been using it since. I still miss the days of not having to worry of getting a good picture for a post or having to show everyone online that I was having a great time. I just lived and that sense of freedom I doubt I will ever get back. I do thing technology is good thing now, for the obvious reasons. I just wish we had a way to function daily without having to rely on our phones or computer.

Introduction
Hello, My name is Kyle Jorae and I am a senior at Central Michigan University. I am pursuing my bachelor’s in General Business Administration. I am from Saint Johns, Michigan, which is 45 minutes south of Mount Pleasant. I have held a multitude off jobs before college and I hope to use my experience outside of the business field to help bring a new perspective wherever I work. My career goals is to find a job out in North Dakota after graduation to help support my girlfriend while she pursues here PHD in clinical physiology. This blog will have detail descriptions of my degree pursuit and my college experience.
A company that I believe has a great social media presence is Wendy’s. Recently their twitter has focused on relating to a generation that reacts more to humor than most other things. Wendy’s has found great success by posting sarcasm and humor on their twitter where other companies only provide professionalism. This makes them stand out in the industry which is hard to do with so many similar chains.
