About Petra History, (The Ancient City):
The ancient city of Petra is one of Jordan's national treasures and by far its best-known tourist attraction. Located approximately three hours south of Amman, Petra is the legacy of the Nabataeans, an industrious Arab people who settled in southern Jordan more than 2,000 years ago. Admired then for its refined culture, massive architecture and ingenious complex of dams and water channels.
Petra Facts:
Petra is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site that enchants visitors from all corners of the globe. Much of Petra's appeal comes from its spectacular setting deep inside a narrow desert gorge. The site is accessed by walking through a kilometer long chasm (or siq), the walls of which soar 200m upwards. Petra's most famous monument, the Treasury, appears dramatically at the end of the Siq. Used in the final sequence of the film "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade."
The towering façade of the Treasury is only one of the myriad archaeological wonders to be explored at Petra. Various walks and climbs reveal literally hundreds of buildings, tombs, baths, funerary halls, temples, arched gateways, colonnaded streets, and haunting rock drawings - as well as a 3,000 seat open-air theatre, a gigantic 1st-century Monastery, and a modern archeological museum, all of which can be explored at leisure. A modest shrine commemorating the death of Aaron, brother of Moses, was built in the 13th century by the Mamluk Sultan, high atop mount Aaron in the Sharah range.

AL-MSHATTA PALACE "WINTER PALACE"
Al-Mshatta Palace is one of the desert castles built by the Umayyads. Situated nearly 32 km southeast of Amman, this palace was built by the Umayyad Caliph al-Walid bin Yazid in 744 AD and is surrounded by a 144-meter-long square wall comprising of 25 circular towers.
QASR AL-HARRANA/AL-KHARANAH
Named Al-Harrana Castle as it is positioned in the Al-Harrana Valley; the square fortress was resurrected during the reign of Al-Walid ibn Abd al-Malik. The castle has been restored several times as a result of the constant invading empires. Located on the international road on the way to Azraq, visitors are encouraged to get medieval and explore inside the fortress walls.
QASR AMRA
Built during the reign of the Umayyad caliph Yazid bin Abd al-Malik, who is considered to be the sixth caliph of the Umayyad successors, Qasr Amra is believed to have been a location to aid in hunting. With the preservation of castle carvings and fresco paintings, the Qasr Amra is sure to be a castle experience, unlike the others.
QASR BURQU'
Built by the Romans to maintain control of a freshwater source the palace was constructed with steam irrigation channels that reaches all rooms and facilities. Qasr Burqu' is a desert castle located in the governorate of Mafraq and is waiting to be discovered.
QASR AL-HALLABAT
One of the most important, distinguished archaeological sites in the Middle East, and originally a small Roman fortress built to protect the Nova Trajana route. It was occupied in 106 AD and was part of Limes Arabicus, the then Arabian Peninsula. In the fourth century, the castle was enlarged and protected by four towers, possibly during the reign of Diocletian.
QASR HAMMAM AL-SAR’H
Qasr Hammam al-Sarah, also known as the Eastern Hallabat Palace, is located in the city of Zarqa, north of the Jordanian capital Amman. An Umayyad bathhouse, the castle was constructed by the Caliph Hisham ibn Abd al-Malik in the early eighth century AD.
QASR TUBA
Qasr Tuba is one Umayyad palace that has maintained a large part of its structure despite its exposure to erosion and destruction, as it is located on a commercial route that links Balqa to the Arabian Peninsula. Historians have dated the castle back to the reign of Walid ibn Yazid.

AL-Karak Castle
Overview
AL-Karak Castle  Located in the governorate of Karak, in the south of Jordan at a distance of 120 kilometers from the capital Amman.
Al-Karak Castle one of the largest and most important castles of the Crusades in Jordan and the Levant,
the castle we see today essentially dates back to the 12th century, Karak has been a fortress since biblical times.
The Bible relates how the King of Israel and his allies from Judah and Edom ravaged Moab and besieged its king
Mesha in the fortress of Kir Heres.
History of AL-Karak Castle
It was the Crusaders who made Al-Karak (biblical Charach Mouba) famous.it built-in 1142 by Payen le Bouteiller,
lord of Montreal and of the province of Oultre Jourdain, on the remains of earlier citadels, which date back to Nabataean times.
He made Al-Karak the new capital of the province, for its location on the King’s Highway,
where it could control all traffic from north and south and grow rich by the imposition of road-tolls.
Pagan was also Lord of Oultrejordain and Al-Karak Castle became the center of his power, replacing the weaker castle of Montreal to the south. Jordan Tour
Because of its position east of the Dead Sea, Al-Karak Castle was able to control Bedouin herders as well as the trade routes from Damascus to Egypt and Mecca.
His successors, his nephew Maurice and Philip of Milly, added towers and protected the north and south sides
with two deep rock-cut ditches (the southern ditch also serving as a cistern).
The most notable Crusader architectural feature surviving is the north wall, into which are built immense arched
halls on two levels. These were used for living quarters and stables, but also served as a fighting gallery
overlooking the castle approach and for shelter against missiles from siege engines.
In 1183 Saladin besieged Al-Karak castle in response to Raynald’s attacks.
The siege took place during the marriage of Humphrey IV of Toron and Isabella I of Jerusalem,
The siege relieved by Baldwin IV of Jerusalem.
Salah Al-Din Role
Salah Al-Din besieged Kerak again in 1184.  just like the first siege of Al-Karak, Salah Al-Din and his men left before a reinforcing crusader army could come to the castle’s aid. This siege only lasted four weeks.
The last siege of the 12th century was led by Sa’d Al-Din, Saladin’s nephew, in 1188.
As a result of this siege, which lasted several months, the fortress of Al-Karak fell due
to the lack of weapons and not the lack of food. With the fall of the fortress of Al-Karak, the fortress of Montréal fell

Little Petra
little Petra Location:10 Min Away from Petra, Jordan.
Names: Al-Beidha.
Description: It’s a small copy of the main site.
Usage: agricultural center, trading suburb and resupply post for camel caravans visiting the rose city.
Al- Beidha
You May Have heard about the most famous archaeological site in Jordan Which is Called Petra (The rose city).
but the thing that you may don’t know about that there is a small copy of the huge Petra called a little Petra(Al – Beida).
it’s 10 minutes far away from the huge Petra
It’s one of the first settled villages in human history.  Founded between 7200BC to 6500BC,
The settlement burned down and rebuild around that time.
it inhabited for a short while before it abandoned.
The Retaining wall and houses are still visible today.
The site includes tombs, temples, water channels, and cisterns carved out of the rock as well as the remains of frescoes on plaster.
many religious activities were held, including the Feast of Drink, when the king of the Nabataeans hosted celebrations,
and provide drinks for his guests.
There is also a cave with the remains of a fresco painted by the Nabataeans that represented grapevines, which confirmed the view that (Al-Beidha)  the area of wine production.
FAQ About Al-Beidha
Q1: Why it called Little Petra?
Because of the similarity with the main site Petra  It is thought to have been an important suburb of Petra and is entered through a narrow opening, similar to Siq but of a much smaller scale.
Q2: is Little Petra worth to visit?
yes, sure it’s worth to visit because many reasons.
1. Free Entrance
Unlike Petra which has a very expensive ticket ( 50JD/ approximately £56 for 1 day!) Al- beidha  is completely free, having or not a Jordan Pass
2. It has a Relaxed Vibe and no crowd.
The tourists visiting Little Petra are enormously less so this can affect the entire experience to some extent as well. A relaxing atmosphere and a “time hasn’t affected this historical place” vibe is way more possible to be experienced
3. You can interact with Bedouins on a more personal level
This is totally understandable and expected. Over half of a million tourists visit the rose city every year and just a few of them actually pay a visit to al beidha! So the local sellers/ Bedouins around little Petra have much more time to talk to you/ answer questions/help you etc IF they want it to. Don’t be surprised if you might be offered tea in someone’s cave
Q3: Is Al-Beidha Entrance fee Included In Jordan Pass?
its completely free no entrance fee needed.

Qasr Kharana
Located in the middle of a vast, treeless plain, this imposing thick-walled structure was the most likely inspiration for the ‘desert castle’ moniker and is arguably the most photogenic of all the desert castles. There is controversy about its function and purpose, but this important Umayyad structure remains an interesting sight for visitors, of the main Azraq–Amman road.
Although it clearly isn’t a castle, Kharana was a vital building for the Umayyads as evidenced by its dramatic size and shape. Despite the fact that it has the appearance of a khan (caravanserai), Kharana wasn’t located on any major trade route, and there appears to be a total absence of structures for water storage. That just leaves the supposition that the building served as a meeting space for Damascus elite and local Bedouin. Named after the harra (surrounding gravel plains), Kharana lords imposingly over a harsh and barren moonscape that appears inhospitable for human habitation. Inside, however, the internal courtyard provides a calm, protected space that even the wind fails to penetrate.
Despite its castle-like appearance, there is no evidence that the intimidating two-story building, with what appear to be round, defensive towers and narrow arrow slits, was ever intended as a fort. In fact, the towers are completely solid, which means that they couldn’t be manned by armed soldiers and it would be impossible to fire bows from the bizarrely shaped ‘arrow slits', meaning that they most likely served as air and light ducts. About 60 rooms surround the courtyard inside the castle, and probably served as meeting spaces for visiting delegations. The long rooms either side of the arched entrance were used as stables, and in the center of the courtyard was a basin for collecting rainwater. Remarkably, the interior is much smaller than you’d imagine as the walls are deceptively thick. Climb the broad stairways and you’ll find rooms on the upper stories with vaulted ceilings. Some carved plaster medallions, set around the top of the walls, are said to indicate Mesopotamian influence.
Also in one of the rooms on the second floor is a few lines of Arabic graffiti, which were crucial in helping to establish the age of the fortress. Above the door in simple black script is an inscription that says ‘Abd Al-Malik the son of Ubayd wrote it on Monday three days from Muharram of the year 92’. Stairs in the southeast and southwest corners lead to the 2nd floor and the roof (closed to visitors).
Very little is known about the origins of Qasr Kharana, although a painted inscription above one of the doors on the upper floor mentions the date AD 710, making it one of the earliest forms of the Islamic era. The presence of stones with Greek inscriptions in the main entrance also suggests it was built on the site of a Roman or Byzantine building, possibly as a private residence.
The entrance to Kharana is through the visitor center, which has some displays on local history. Public toilets are available. The hospitable owner of the adjacent Bedouin tent, which doubles as the site coffeehouse and souvenir stall, will brew you fresh mint tea and take time to discuss the issues of the day. Your patronage will be much appreciated if the current absence of tourism continues.
Kharana is 16km further west along Hwy 40 from Qusayr Amra. There’s no viable public transport along the highway (although it could be included in a round trip by taxi from Azraq, from JD20) and the castle is only signposted coming from Amman. It’s easier to spot than neighboring Amra, especially as it’s disappointingly close to a power station.

Quseir Amra
Built in the early 8th century, this exceptionally well-preserved desert castle was both a fortress with a garrison and a residence of the Umayyad caliphs. The most outstanding features of this small pleasure palace are the reception hall and the hammam, both richly decorated with figurative murals that reflect the secular art of the time.
Location
Located in the eastern desert, Qusayr Amra is just over one hour away from Amman and Madaba by car. The castle of Qasr Kharana is just a ten-minute drive away, and Qasr al Alzraq is 25 minutes away.
Qusayr Amra’s History
Qusayr Amra was built in the 8th Century by the Umayyads as a fortress and place of residence. After construction was complete, it quickly became famous for being a pleasure palace with nightly parties. The castle also contained a Hamman and was adorned in non-religious wall paintings that reflected early Islamic life.
The painting takes inspiration from pagan themes and Byzantine portraits but they have their own unique style which sets them apart from other periods. The building was originally attached to a larger castle which no longer exists. The site was re-discovered in 1898 by the Czech explorer Alois Musil.
Things to See at Qusayr Amra
Along with the intriguing architecture of the building Qusayr Amra is also famed for its wall paintings. Each wall painting in the castle depicts the life of the Umayyads with images of wrestlers, half-naked women, dog races and hunting. These paintings were a pleasant surprise to historians as they shed some light on the livelihood of the Umayyads.
The bath building still remains and is adorned with murals depicting local life during the 8th Century. In the changing room, visitors will find a painting with three blackened faces which is believed to reflect the three life stages.
The most famous painting on site is the Dome of Heaven; a map of the northern hemisphere sky located in the domed ceiling. The map includes the zodiac signs and is thought to be the very first map of the universe painted onto a curved surface.
How to Visit Qusayr Amra
Qusayr Amra costs 1 JD for a ticket. This ticket also covers entrance to Qasr Al Azraq and Qasr Kharana which are only a Qusayr Amra is conveniently located so that travelers can also visit Qasr Kharana and Qasr al Azraq on the same day.

WadiRum, Jordan
A journey to Wadi Rum is a journey to another world. A vast, silent place, timeless and starkly beautiful... Wadi Rum is one of Jordan's main tourist attractions being one of the most stunning desertscape in the World, lying 320 km (199 miles) southwest of Amman, 120 km (75 miles) south of Petra, and only 68 km (42 miles) north of Aqaba.
Uniquely shaped massive mountains rise vertically out of the pink desert sand, which separates one dark mass from another in a magnificent desert scenery of strange breathtaking beauty, with towering cliffs of weathered stone.. The faces of the sheer rock cliffs have been eroded by the wind into faces of men, animals, and monsters.
Wadi Rum is probably best known because of its connection with the enigmatic British officer T.E. Lawrence, who was based here during the Great Arab Revolt of 1917-18, and as the setting for the film that carried his name "Lawrence of Arabia".
Everywhere in this moonscape place are indications of man's presence since the earliest known times. Scattered around are flint hand axes, while on the rocks at the feet of the mountains the names of ancient travelers are scratched. All around, there is emptiness and silence. In this immense space, man is dwarfed to insignificance.
The valley floors are some 900-1000 meters above sea level, and the great sandstone crags rise sheer, a further 500-550 meters. Jabal Rum is the highest peak in the area and the second-highest in Jordan. Others are some 27 km (16.8 miles) north of the Rum village like Jabal Kharaz and Jabal Burdah with its Rock Bridge which is one of Wadi Rum's most popular attractions.
There are many ways to explore this fragile, unspoiled desert retreat. Serious trekkers will be drawn to Wadi Rum, with challenging climbs some 1750m (5741 feet) high, while casual hikers can enjoy an easy course through the colorful hills and canyons. Naturalists will be drawn to the desert in springtime when rains bring the greening of the hills and an explosion of 2000 species of wildflowers. Red anemones, poppies and the striking black iris, Jordan's national flower, all grow at will by roadside and in more quiet reaches.
Stunning in its natural beauty, Wadi Rum epitomizes the romance of the desert. Now the home of several Bedouin tribes, Wadi Rum has been inhabited for generations. These hospitable and friendly desert people are settled in Wadi Rum in scattered nomadic camps throughout the area. Visitors who are invited to share mint tea or cardamon coffee in their black tents, perhaps sitting by the fire under a starry desert sky, will have an experience not to be forgotten.
Wadi Rum is an ideal location for hiking, climbing, and trekking. Except in summer months, climbing the Rock Bridge here is unforgettable. 4x4 jeep tours and hot air balloon riding at dawn and in the late afternoon are feasible with previous arrangements. Camel trips inside the wadi (up to 3 hours) and from it to either Aqaba (several days) or Petra (about a week) may also be arranged.

The martian tents in Wadi rum
Camping out in the desert in these dome-style tents has become known as “glamping” and they are marketed as “Martian Domes”, “Star pods” or “Bubble Tents”. They aim to create an outer space experience in the vast and empty desert. Some tents have a transparent panel designed for stargazing in the clear desert sky, while others have a transparent roof. Be prepared that neither design provides much privacy but is worth it for the view.
Sun City Camp is one of the best camps in Wadi Rum. The tents are spacious and modern, and each has an en-suite bathroom. Visitors rave about the warm hospitality and service. The camp offers regular Bedouin-style tents for approximately $200 USD per night, and the Martian Domes with a transparent panel for around $300 USD per night. The rooms are equipped with beds, air conditioning/heating, a kettle with tea and coffee, a wardrobe, a small sitting area, and an en-suite bathroom. There is one main dining tent with an outdoor dining area. Meals are served buffet-style. The camp supports the Bedouin community and works with local Bedouin guides to run the desert tours.
The Martian tents in Wadi Rum make you feel like you are sleeping on Mars. It is a unique experience you are unlikely to replicate anywhere else in the world. The night reveals thousands of shimmering stars. The beds are comfortable and there is something heavenly about falling asleep in the silent desert.

Ajloun Castle
Ajloun is located 73 km north of Amman, at the northwest of Jerash. You will enjoy a fascinating road through a beautiful pine-forest and olive palms until you reach the town of Ajloun. Ajlous is where Hadrian built himself an arch outside the town and stayed over the winter of 129 – 30 AD. In this village, you can visit the Castle of Ajloun or Qalaat Errabadh (Arabic for “Hilltop Castle”), from which there is a wonderful scenery westwards into the Jordan Valley.
The marvels of nature and the genius of medieval Arab military architecture have given northern Jordan two of the most important ecological and historical attractions in the Middle East: the sprawling pine forests of the Ajloun-Dibbine area, and the towering Ayyubid castle at Ajloun, which helped defeat the Crusaders eight centuries ago.
One of Saladin’s generals built Ajloun Castle (Qal’at Ar-Rabad) in 1184 AD in order to control the iron mines of Ajloun, and to deter the Franks from invading Ajloun. Ajloun Castle dominated the three main routes leading to the Jordan Valley and protected the trade and commercial routes between Jordan and Syria; it became an important link in the defensive chain against the Crusaders, who, unsuccessfully spent decades trying to capture the castle and the nearby village.
The original castle had four towers, arrow slits incorporated into the thick walls, and surrounded by a moat averaging 16 m in width and up to 15 m deep.  In 1215 AD, the Mameluk officer Aibak ibn Abdullah expanded the castle following Usama's death, by adding a new tower in the southeast corner and a bridge that can still be seen decorated with pigeon reliefs. The castle was conceded in the 13th century to Salah ed-Din Yousef Ibn Ayoub, ruler of Aleppo and Damascus, who restored the northeastern tower. These expansion efforts were interrupted in 1260 AD when Mongol invaders destroyed the castle, but almost immediately, the Mameluk Sultan Baybars re-conquered and rebuilt the fortress.
Ten Salah ed-Din soldiers are guarding the castle every day of the week. They are placed at the four different gate levels that the castle has. Two are on the roof where the yellow Mameluk is flying. Siege ladders leaning on the wall add to the war-like atmosphere. Today, the castle is well-preserved and becomes a famous essential attraction for foreigners and Jordanians as well. The structures, towers, chambers, galleries, and staircases make Ajloun a very special destination. As well as the fascinating landscape, that surrounds the hills will blow your mind for sure.
Ajloun is just a short journey from Jerash through pine forest and olive groves and boasts scores of ancient sites, including watermills, forts and villages, all in the beautiful hills and valleys of northern Jordan. Nearby is the Ajloun Nature Reserve, a 13 sq. km protected area of outstanding beauty and diverse wildlife. Within the reserve are two nature trails and chalet-style accommodation. The reserve is managed and maintained by the Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature (RSCN).
Memphis Tours offers unique tours that include Ajloun hill in our Jordan travel packages. Memphis Tours provides a wide range of guided outdoor visits and beautiful touristic destinations such as Ajloun hill in Jordan tours packages and Jordan and Egypt combined travel packages. Dead Sea Mud: Benefits and Uses
Overview
The Dead Sea is a saltwater lake in the Middle East, located between Israel and Jordan. The geographical features of the Dead Sea — including the fact that the lake is at the lowest sea level of any body of water on earth and surrounded by mountains — makes the surrounding silt and mud rich with a unique combination of minerals like magnesium, sodium, and potassium.
People use Dead Sea mud to treat health conditions ranging from psoriasis to back pain. A great deal of research backs up claims that Dead Sea mud can relieve pain, reduce inflammation, and more.
1. Helps improve psoriasis
Dead Sea mud can be applied as a compress to psoriasis flares. Researchers have established trusted Source that the high concentrations of salt and other chemical compounds in the mud can be used to treat psoriasis effectively.
Using Dead Sea mud as a mud compress in areas where your psoriasis or psoriatic arthritis is, can decrease symptoms and relieve pain caused by inflammation.
2. Reduces skin impurities
If you have dry skin, try a Dead Sea mud mask. Mud masks can work to remove impurities and dead skin on your body.
An added benefit of Dead Sea mud is that the salt and magnesium in it can improve your skin’s functionality by making it a better barrier and more elastic. Dead Sea salt has also been shown trusted Source as a treatment to make skin healthier.
3. Provides relief for arthritis
In one older experimentTrusted Source, heated mud packs were applied to the extremities of people with arthritis for 20 minutes, once per day, over a span of 2 weeks. This study used Dead Sea mud and people saw a marked decrease in their arthritis symptoms that lasted up to three months.
People with inflammatory arthritis, like rheumatoid arthritis or psoriatic arthritis, are more likely to experience this benefit.
4. Helps soothe chronic back pain
Data from a 2014 study trusted Source indicated that a Dead Sea mud compress applied five times a week for three consecutive weeks, led to a significant improvement in symptoms for people with chronic lower back pain. Further research is still needed with a greater sample size to confirm these findings.
5. Helps treat acne
Dead Sea mud has been tested trusted Source and proven to have an antimicrobial effect on strains of bacteria that live on human skin. Since overgrowth or presence of certain bacteria can lead to acne, it’s possible that this is why Dead Sea mud has been used to treat breakouts since biblical times.
Using Dead Sea mud in a mud mask, or getting face creams and lotions that contain Dead Sea mud might help you to have fewer breakouts.

WADI RUM JEEP TOUR
The jeep tour is the ultimate Wadi Rum desert experience! You’ll sit outside in the back of the jeep while driving through the massive desert. I did the full day jeep tour and saw a lot of different things such as Bedouin inscriptions, canyons, rock arches, massive rock formations in different colors, sand dunes and a LOT of sand and rocks! It feels as if you’re driving around on Mars. You also stop at Bedouin tents to get some tea. Even my warm lunch was freshly made by my guide! I’m going to let the pictures speak for themselves because no words can describe the beauty of Wadi Rum

Camel ride in Wadi Rum
Traveling around Wadi Rum by camel is highly recommended. Apart from being ecologically sound, it enables you to experience Wadi Rum as the Bedouin have for centuries and to appreciate the silent gravitas of the desert. That said, a ride of more than about four hours will leave you sore in places you never knew existed.
Rates for camel-trekking excursions are fixed and listed on a board outside the excursion office in the visitor center. The prices are per person. You’ll enjoy your ride much more if you ride yourself rather than being led. This will cost a bit more as you need to pay for your guide’s camel, but it’s well worth the extra cost.
You can easily add on an overnight stay at a Bedouin camp (ask at the visitor center when booking your camel). If you want to return by 4WD, then you have to pay the price of returning the camel to where you collected it from. If you have a lot of gear, it’s better to hire an additional camel (at the same rate) to bear the load. It is also possible to arrange longer camel excursions from Wadi Rum to Aqaba (three to six nights depending on the route); or towards Wadi Musa (for Petra; about five nights).
The camel is no longer a common form of transport for Bedouin; most now prefer the ubiquitous pick-up truck – in fact, it’s not unusual to see a Bedouin transporting a prized camel in the back of a Toyota. These grumpy but loyal animals, however, are still very much part of the Bedouin culture, and camel races are held weekly in winter, generally on a Friday, at the camel track near Diseh. Ask at the visitor center for details.
