MY CINECITY EXPERIENCE
In November 2022, I volunteered to take part in Cinecity's 20th Film Festival in Brighton. I helped out for 2 days, including the opening weekend. I watched the powerful film TILL which is based on true events dating back to 1955. The second film I watched was called The Silent Twins, another film that is based on true events. This also starred and was produced by Letitia Wright, an astonishing actress who made her commercial big break in 2018's Black Panther. I thoroughly enjoyed both films and really appreciated the reception from all the moviegoers who attended the film festival. I also appreciated the range of films presented at Cinecity. There were many films created by black directors and creatives and many queer stories that were presented. The festival also featured a panel of Ukrainian films to show support for the ongoing issues they are facing currently. I really did appreciate this opportunity to be around so many film lovers and to watch amazing films that were not even released to the public yet.

Favourite Film - Queen & Slim
This is arguably one of my favourite films ever, I even have a tattoo dedicated to it. The way the story is presented, how in depth the characters are portrayed, the realistic value throughout the story. I love the colours, the overall theme, the way it is filmed. I love the music featured in it, the soundtrack has some of my favourite songs on it and the film score was produced by Devontae Hynes, who is one of my favourite artists in this day and age. Honestly, I could go on about this film, everytime I watch it it never fails make me bawl my eyes out and I truly felt inspired after watching it the first time. An all-time classic.

Favourite Film - White Chicks

White Chicks is one of those films I should not have been watching at such a young age but I’m so glad I did! This is probably the film I reference the most in my daily life purely because of how much I love all of the jokes. It's a classic in our family and we have it on DVD so my little brother is obsessed with it too. I guess it's a family tradition now.

Favourite Films - The Perks of being a Wallflower
This is one of my favourite films mainly because of where I was in my life - I was still finding myself and surrounded by the wrong people but I watched this with my old friend and related so much to Charlie, the protagonist because he was in a similar situation. I remember always wanting to be in that fictional world and help him in his dark times. This was also the film that introduced me to depression, suicide, and childhood trauma.

Favourite Films - Moonlight
The first film I watched that accurately presented young black gay men in a realistic, authentic and non-stereotypical way was in Moonlight. I was initially drawn to the soft pastel colours used in the majority of the film. After watching it over and over, I am now drawn to the in-depth relationships between the characters as well as the sensitive and emotional tones throughout the film.
