So I was playing PokémonGo in the park today, and decided to bring my two ferrets along. There were a few families there with small children who all got very excited to see and pet weird fluffy animals (side note- all of the kids were super polite and gentle and it made me real happy to see so many little kids being so sweet with small animals). So anyway, there’s this one kid who’s, like, 6 years old probably? And he has a device and he’s playing PokémonGo too, but he keeps circling me, looking at the ferrets like he’s trying to decide what they are. I ask if he wants to pet them, and he kinda cautiously puts his hand out before realizing that they are soft as well as funny looking so he starts petting both of them. I tell him that they’re ferrets and joke “They’re my real life Pokémon.” All of a sudden his eyes get wide and he whispers “Pokémon!” real reverently in this sort of “that explains it!” tone, and runs off.
And that’s the story of how I accidentally made a kid think that ferrets are actually irl Pokémon
