Redesigned timeline poster
Tumblr media
This is my redesigned timeline poster that has been developed since its vertical form and is intended to be used in my 12 page publication. Apart from changing from horizontal to landscape, I decided to add a lot of line work that represents my artist, Catherine Griffiths, as she often uses similar geometrical line work in her poster works. I also decided to make the dates/years vertical as I believe that this is easier on the eye to read next to the text that corresponds with each year.

Week 9 Publication layout
Tumblr media
This is a concept of layouts I have created for my publication. I believe that these layouts have a good balance between text and images without being to over-complicated. I think that this layout will be very successful and will portray and reflect my artist very well.

Week 6 + 7 timeline posters
First timeline before refinement
Tumblr media
After a 1 on 1 meeting with Karol, she was able to give me some feedback on how I can make my timeline poster more successful. During this meeting, Karol had recommended to make the time more linear by making the year titles more central as opposed to being far away from each other. Karol also recommended to get rid of the outlined text as it would be hard to read from a distance. I also intend to make the texts below the year dates staggered instead of squared as Catherine Griffiths mostly uses staggered texts. Finally, I intend to move the “Designer and typographer” to under the picture of Catherine Griffiths and add a little bio about her.

Week 5 Timeline Concepts
Tumblr media
These were my first sketches of potential poster layouts for my timeline. I am instantly drawn to the top left picture, however I don't know how this will translate to illustrator.

Week 4 - Poster and Timeline Research
Tumblr media
I was drawn to this timelines design as the bold orange ‘TIMES’ type draws in the eye and then carries on towards the orange writing just below. I always like how the timeline is a curvy line as opposed to a straight line so that the audience and viewers are taken on a ‘journey’ through the timeline.
Tumblr media
For this timeline infographic the blue and orange spiral with the dates above the colours is very strong and bold, however the pictures and small writing make the page a bit too much to look at in my opinion.
Tumblr media
I was drawn to the geometrical shapes in this timeline which create a very strong and bold look. I also like how the timeline details go from the left then alternating to the right, so the page does not feel as cluttered.
Tumblr media
I was drawn to the simplistic design of this timeline as it has simple images that link to short but bold time dates. I also like how the timeline takes a curve up showing that life may have gotten better throughout the years, or representing something else.

Week 3 - Notes
In this weeks lecture we went over a brief intro to adobe illustrator learning that illustrator is a vector based graphics software as opposed to photoshop that is a raster based software. Photoshop is a raster based editing tool meaning that every image and type is made up from pixels where as illustrators type is made from anchor points and lines. this means that type coming from illustrator is much more editable and customisable. Vector based editing is scalable without any losses in quality.
During this lesson we also were given an Illustrator 101 file where all the basics of illustrator, like navigating around, anchor points and paths, groups, colour, strokes etc. were taught to us. This presentation also taught us basic hotkeys to navigate to tools that we would use regularly to make use of the software faster.

Photoshop practice - week 2
Tumblr media
During week 2′s Materials and Media class we were shown several tutorials about the basic blending modes and edits in photoshop and how to successfully use them on layers. From this I learnt to change the colour of images, increase and decrease the brightness and contrast on images and also how to change the levels on images.
