Before my time with the barangay officials and personnel ended, I thanked each one of them for doing a great job and service for our community. I realized immediately that, those barangays around the university are well-prepared and are well-trained for any type of calamity that may hit their areas. One of the things that I suggested before I left was that they should see to it that everyone sees their sign that says “BARANGAY HALL”, not to flaunt but to make sure that everyone, even visitors or tourists know where to call for help in case of an emergency. Aside from this, I noticed that they’ve worn slippers during their duty so I told them, just to make sure that they can respond quickly and effectively, that they should always wear the proper attire when going on-duty. We’ve talked about how the national government should be more connected to small barangays like them, just for us to have better communication and to make sure that the needs of every barangay are met. When we all communicate well with each other, we can relay information faster and effectively! This can lead to the betterment of our society as a whole.  As a member of this community, I can make small adjustments by making sure that everyone is aware of the different events and drills that the barangay conducts. This way, we can all participate and be informed on how we can become better residents of our barangay. I can also share the knowledge that I gained from this interview to my fellow residents in order for them to know that we have barangay officials who are sincere towards their work and who make sure that they can respond to any calamity or emergency that the barangay encounters. End.

According to Mr. Perez (Brgy. Chairman), the SAFEST PLACE for the people in their barangay to evacuate to is the UST Field, not only is it safe from collapsing buildings and other debris, it can also accommodate numerous amounts of people and is very near considering that the barangay is located just around the university

Although there are some HAZARDOUS PLACES that can be found in the barangay, the officials make sure to do their best in order to apprehend those who go against the law and make the surroundings of their people unsafe!  The image above portrays an Unsafe incident that happened in their barangay, the owner of the house blocked the road with stones and a NO PARKING sign which made it narrower and made it hard for the cars to drive through.

After having been prepared of any disaster and calamities, the barangay officials update their Demographic Information every month!  The Demographic Information that they have as of the month of December is shown by the picture above! They keep track of their residents so that they know how to cope up with and what the preparations are that they have to make in order to provide more than enough service and support for the people who live in their barangay!

Although they may not face earthquakes often, over-all Chairman Mr. Perez does not let this infrequent calamity keep them from being well-prepared in every way possible! talk about being the best barangay in town right? Barangay 471 makes sure that, in every chance they get,  they participate in earthquake drills whether it be organized by the national government or just by the barangay officials themselves. As they say, you can never be too prepared! They also never let anyone be left alone in this as they make their announcements ahead and as clear as possible, for everyone to be mindful of their own safety.

In addition to their weekly inspection of the drainage, the officials and volunteers keep their barangay clean by doing weekly clean-up drives. This ensures that their area won’t have a problem on sanitation. What more can we ask for in a barangay that does it all! As Over-all Chairman Mr. Perez stated, they’ve only achieved what they have because of the disciplined members of their community! A job well done once again to all those in Barangay 471!

We’ve managed to talk about how the barangay prepares their area for sudden heavy rainfalls and floods. As seen in the picture above, the barangay conducts a weekly inspection and de-clogging of their drainage and makes sure that the people in the area know how to properly dispose their garbage! Truly a wonderful job done by the Barangay Officials and the people living in the area!

Most of the calamities that the barangay encounters are no different from the other ones that are around the university. To name a few: Flood from heavy rain and typhoons that come every year. Barangay Officials and Respondents stay alert 24/7 for any sudden calamity that may come, they have teams for every calamity such as the Task Force for Fire Disaster lead by Mr. Alfonso Adalia, Task Force for Earthquake Disaster lead by Mr. Lito Espera, Task Force for Typhoon Disaster lead by Mr. Babilon Lorica, and Task Force for Pandemic/ Outbreak Disaster lead by Ms. Evelyn Rodriguez. These teams make sure that there are respondents that go around the area to monitor everything, around the clock. They also have personnel to monitor the news and forecast to report whether or not there may be an alarming weather that could hit the area.

Choosing a barangay to check on was an easy task to do since I know that each barangay around the university is capable of readily answering questions related to the Disaster Risk Reduction Management of their area, their officials, and as well as the people who live inside the barangays!
I chose the Barangay 471 of Zone 46 since it was the most accessible barangay to me, fortunately, they are more than willing to share their plans, activities, and documents that they responsibly keep updated quarterly every year!
