A pack of dogs lurked near the sheep pasture. The Dogs, on the other hand, kept them all at a respectful distance, and the Sheep grazed in complete safety. But now the Wolves have devised a plan to deceive the Sheep.

  "Why do we always have this hostility between us?" they wondered. "If it weren't for those Dogs who are always causing havoc, I'm sure we'd get along just fine. Send them away, and you'll see how good of friends we'll become."

   The Sheep were easily deceived. They persuaded the Dogs to leave, and the Dogs celebrated the greatest feast of their lives that evening.

THE ROOSTER AND THE SQUIRREL

 Because he had gotten too close to the Farmer's hen house, a Squirrel was captured in a trap one fine morning. He was hungry, no question, but that was no excuse for stealing. Early in the morning, a Rooster realized what had transpired. He knew the Squirrel couldn't reach him, so he moved in closer to get a better look at his adversary.

 The Squirrel saw a slim possibility of eluding capture.

 ""Dear friend," he explained, "I was just on my way to see a sick cousin when I came across this rope and became tangled up." However, please don't tell anyone about it. I despise inflicting pain on others, and I'm confident I'll be gnawing this string to shreds in no time."

 The Rooster, on the other hand, was not easily tricked. He quickly awakened the entire hen yard, and Mr. Squirrel was finished when the Farmer came dashing out.
