MAITĂ: wait, who are you stuck with?
JOSEPHINE: oh wow, how did i not know that?

JOSEPHINE: i've got noah, flora, elena, and hudson and there's some history that i don't know all the details of
JOSEPHINE: actually, i don't want to know
JOSEPHINE: i'm just cuddling flora all day, screw it

Estherâs eyebrows lifted a little at that- it probably will- and she let out a nervous chuckle, âI guess weâll see!â She stuffed her hands in her sweatshirt pocket, shivering as a particularly heavy gust of wind hit them, âThatâs true- Iâd love to see emâ when⊠ya know, weâre safe and no longer endangering our lives by being outside.â She joked, looking out at the storm- there was a beauty in it, that was for sure. At Josephineâs question, she tilted her head slightly, âWell, I- Honestly? I just wanted to see it all again before⊠before all this- who knows that itâll all look like after tonight?âÂ
She let out a loud laugh at Estherâs joke, her hair whipping around her as she regarded the brewing storm. Sure, they were endangering themselves by being outside, but Josephine couldnât help but want to have a moment in the storm. Her head turned to face the other girl once more, and her mirth fell away into something more soft as Esther continued to speak. âMaybe itâll look the sameâ maybe itâll look completely destroyed. I guess we wonât know until tomorrowâ but I like your thinking.â Sheâd taken a photo earlier of Pythagoras Hall, still mostly untouched while the trees surrounding it blurred togetherâ perhaps by tomorrow the windows would be shattered and the trees gone. âDo you have all your stuff together?â

Esther flashed the other a gentle smile, shrugging, âListen, Iâm always open to company.â Despite being good at- and comfortable with- being alone, Esther didnât like it. She thrived around other people, needed human interaction. Sheâd never been an introvert. She looked out at the rain, âThis is pretty crazy, huh? I hope it isnât as bad as theyâre sayingâŠâ She shook off her nervousness and then gestured to the camera she held, âGet any cool pictures? I feel like the lightning alone could be a pretty good⊠canvas? Muse? Idk, you know what I mean!âÂ
Josephine laughed loudly, uncaring of the way her hair and clothes seemed to stick to her body. âIt probably will get as bad as theyâre saying, but we still have a little time. The windâs just started picking up after all.â It wouldnât hurt to go back to the dorms soon, but it still wasnât so bad. Besides, she already had most of her stuff ready to goâ she knew sheâd want to take photos for as long as possible, and so sheâd prepared. âI got lots of cool picturesâ itâs hard not to take any cool photos with a storm like this.â The camera roll on her phone was also getting full just from this storm alone. âSo, what are you doing here?â

though kennedy enjoyed himself a good walk through the rain, this wasnât the time. normally he preferred a sunny shower or a mild fall, but what was happening in the sky was dark, angry, and it had a bit of anxiety twisting at his stomach. it wasnât that bad yet, but it was only going to get worse. he hardly felt like playing. â itâs not a storm, josephine. â he says pointedly, tone serious. â itâs bordering on a natural disaster. or, itâs rumour to be. weâre meant to be inside. câmon, now, youâre all wet and youâre going to get sick. â he huffs, ushering her in and towards the direction of his room so he can fetch her a towel.Â
Kennedyâs tone was more serious than normal, and Josephine winced inwardly as she hurried back towards safety. Thatâ that hadnât been what sheâd wanted. As she neared the doors, the rain pelting down more furiously than before, a branch smacked her in the face, twigs scraping against her face and her arm. A curse escaped her as she felt a trickle of blood begin to fall down her face, the warmth almost jarring against her skin. She sprinted the rest of the way, obediently following Kenny as he began to usher her towards his room. âI hope you also have a first-aid kitâ or at least some bandages.â These things happen and she didnât regret being outside, but sheâd also rather not bleed over his towels.

âDid you expect anything less?â Josephine called back, her head tilted as she relished in the way the rain slapped her face. Her hair was wet and stuck to her body like a second skin, but the wind was cold and strong and it drowned out any discomfort. Sheâd always been a fan of stormsâ as a child sheâd never been afraid of lightning or thunder or howling winds, and at twenty-one she was no different. Still, it was getting chilly even for her, and Josephine knew that if she stayed out here any longer sheâd just be inviting sickness, and so she hurried back towards the safety of the building. âYou know I canât resist a good storm.â
after watching them through the window for the last few minutes, kennedy canât help but stick his nose in it. he heads down to the front doors of the building, poking his head out. itâs gusty out already, and though the sky hasnât gone completely dark yet, being outside probably wasnât the best idea. â oi, â kennedy calls out to them, voice raised to catch over the sound of whipping wind. â what are you doing out there still? â

Her camera was safely tucked in the pocket of her bomber jacket, its roll of film filled with photos as the storm continued to pick up around her. Sheâd been moving from building to building, getting photos of the way the school looked, the sky, the trees, everything. Sheâd even gone as close as she dared to Neptuneâs Cove to take photos of the choppy wavesâ how could she not? But now her roll of film was fullâ so sheâd have to stop, if only for a moment. Josephine ducked under an alcove, deftly replacing the roll of film before turning the person beside her. âDo you want to join me, or do you just want some company?â

âyeah, iâd kill for a suit like that,â she says honestly â one of the few things she can agree with kennedy on is his fashion choices. âi have a guy, though. yâknow â if he canât get the stain out with his own methods.â an olive branch? not to kennedy, really, but she likes josie enough to try to put their differences aside. âyeah, definitely not. i think the school would collapse in on itself if it didnât get its daily dose of drama.â not that she hasnât been the one causing it, occasionally.
Anybody who knew anything about suits would kill for a suit like that, and so Josephine couldnât help but agree wholeheartedlyâ although her attention was quickly pulled by Brynnâs following comment. âReally? Would you be willing to share this guyâs info? If youâre recommending him, he must be good.â Even if Kenny didnât use the guy, maybe she could tooâ you never know when you need someone to clean a suit. Her closet had a couple that she hadnât gotten around to wearing yet, but if they ever got stained, having the name of someone who could help would be a godsend. âYouâre not wrong thereâ Hatchett does run on drama, but then again, maybe thatâs on par for everybody under 25â for everybody in life actually. Have you seen what soccer moms say about each other on Facebook?â

â  stopped watching that a long time ago. the gay stuff is way better. â though not the lesbian stuff made for straight men, because the women often looked like they were going to throw up at any moment. though it didnât necessarily surprise kennedy that josephine managed to remain on neutral ground with almost everyone, he did have to wonder if she ever got bored of it not teetering into more. but then again, kennedy was all about intensity, whether it be good or bad. he supposed both of them could use a little more of the good kind, especially as of late. â you can study and do that josephine. donât even try it. only one-dimensional losers have to pick academic success as their only option. and you are definitely not one of those. â of course he fully believed both of them could have it all. still, itâs not like he was the best person to comment on this. josephine had far more stability than he did â- but he knows thatâs where theyâd differ. heâd find it too dull just to settle for a plethora of acquaintances and a good study. he was far too passionate for that. â flirting is fun, yeah, but when it hardly ever goes anywhere, donât you get bored? no judgement, just curious. i feel like i need to sink my teeth into everything or itâs just not worth my time. â
Josephine nodded sagely, agreeing with his words. Good heterosexual porn was rare, and nobody had the time to actually search for itâ and nobody with any dignity would pay for porn, no matter how good it seems. She cut a bit more of her pancake, relishing in the taste of butter and maple syrup. Heaven in her mouthâ and the bliss receded as she rolled her eyes at Kennyâs words. âYouâre either in it for the long haul, or you donât care at all. And I love you for it, but thatâs not meâ well, I have a middle-ground.â And now she took a sip from her mimosaâ which was also delicious. One of the most terrible side-effects of graduating that she could foresee was losing such easy access to Jubilee. âIâm not choosing academic success over anything elseâ I just want to have fun now. I have all the time in the world to find my âforeverâ, whomever that turns out to be. But right now? I want to have fun, explore, try it all.â So many people, so little timeâ she knew that it seemed a bit slutty when said that way, but it is what it is. Sometimes there was a spark, an attraction, and it deserved to be explored without the added expectations of a relationship or something more. Sheâd done that with Qâ and many more at Hatchett whose names she barely remembers now, and sheâd get that chance with Parker soon too. Hopefully. It was only fairâ and it would definitely be a fun night.Â
âI donât need a whirlwind romance to feel fulfilled. Even if I only trade a wink and a pick-up line, itâll still have been worth it. After all, sometimes thatâs as far as that connection goesâ but at least Iâll have taken the time to acknowledge it, you know?â It made sense to her, and thatâs what mattered. She only had so much timeâ it was only fair to give every opportunity in front of her a chance, and see it through as much as she could. And not everybody nor every connection was significant other material, and thatâs okay.

The morning could have been better. Josephine hadnât wanted to answer the call in her room which was why sheâd gone for a long run early in the morning, making sure that it ended near the Styx. The bench was comfortable (any surface was after such a long run) but the pleasurable ache in her bones post-workout had long since faded into something far more coiling. Phone calls with her parents were few and far in between, but when they did occur she was always left feeling exhausted. Still, an easy smile spread across her face as she registered the familiar voice, any inkling of fatigue disappearing from one second to the next. âYeah Iâm fineâ I just needed to catch my breath. Coach talked me into making my morning run more challengingâ and the burn is hitting me. You?â

ISABELLE & JOSEPHINE
isabelle was out for a run in the early morning, when she saw someone sitting on one of the nearby benches. she instantly recognized the girl. breathing heavily, she pulled out the left earplug from her ear as sweat ran down the back of her neck from her dark, thick hair and down her chest. swallowing back against the small lump growing in her throat, she decided to go over and talk to her. the two of them were roommates but she hadnât really spoken all that much with her. as she stopped to stand next to the bench, she kept breathing heavily, â hey josephine, are you okay? â

She rolled her eyes as he stuck his tongue out, amused by his antics. âYes, youâre paying but Iâm not about to make you bankrupt. If we go unchecked, between the two of us weâd order enough food to max out a black card.â It was an exaggeration, sure, but Josephine knows that she can eat a lotâ a lot more than most people might assume. If Noah orders as much or more than she doesâ the bill will go sky-high quick. Still, he wasnât wrong. âIs that a challenge? Are we actually going to eat everything on the menu? Because if you want to, I have no objections.â Why not, right?

NOAH & JOSEPHINEÂ / @josiehqsâ
â ahhh. sorry about that, â he said and chuckled softly, shaking his head in the process while his dark-brown eyes stayed locked with the brunette. â you can have as much time for you pettiness as you want, â he said and stuck his tongue out at her teasingly. iâm not letting you order every item off of the menu â the staff are already cleaning up the mess from last night. we really shouldnât add to their work. â true, but then again, i would be paying for the food, which means money in the bank for them, right? â he questioned with a smile resting on his lips as he waited for an answer from josephine on his question. â are you really telling me weâre not going to buy everything on the menu? i thought you were hungry. â
