1.06 Mombie Dearest
It’s giving Sky (TM).
Tumblr media
Josie starts off the episode in this Ted Baker London sky-blue ribbed sweater. It has a sewn-in white scalloped collar and white cuffs, and hanging white fabric at the bottom that gives off the illusion of being a full undershirt. It’s reminiscent of the Modcloth sweater she wore in 1.01, though the psuedo-undershirt and the keyhole at the back of the neck are distinct details that make it feel less mature. I’m biased, not being a fan of either of those details in general. The illusion of an undershirt is a detail I generally do not love in blouses; I think it looks a lot 'cheaper', for lack of a better term, than simply wearing an individual undershirt or having an undershirt sewn it. I think it could work for a different character, but something about it feels a little off for Josie to me. BUT, also, she tucks her shirt into her skirt here, so it's not too bothersome to me. It's not really visible.
Another fun Saltzman Twins Style Note: Lizzie is either wearing a blue twist-tie crop top or bra/bralette under her white netted tee, and the shade is very reminiscent of Josie’s sweater.
Tumblr media
One fun thing about this project is how much more I’m noticing these fun coordinating moments. I’m curious about whether they talk about coordinating like this, or if they have a siphon twin psychic sense that influences choices like these on occasion. I’d imagine a mix. Regardless, it’s fun to see common threads (🧵) between their relatively disparate styles—so far, Josie leans vintage/mod-influenced, and Lizzie trends modern but often more casual. It's noteworthy to me, too, that Josie is in her school uniform - we'll see a glimpse of that signature plaid skirt in just a minute, and the Salvatore S is pictured above, emblazoned onto her sweater - while Lizzie seems not to be dressed to be going to classes. Interesting to note, given Josie being presented as the one that's a little more 'studious' between the two of them.
Tumblr media
No clear shot of her shoes, but Josie has a classic/adorable knee high socks thing going on, too.
She has also been experimenting stylistically a little the last few episodes, this color palette and generally studious look is (perhaps refreshingly?) a return to form.
Lots piercings, once again, but unfortunately hard to make out. That's an interesting styling choice to me, though, that even in some of her more traditional outfits, she tends to wear multiple earrings in one ear. It's a detail that somewhat contrasts the more studious persona she's often trying to present.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Later, we get a repeat of Josie’s pajamas from 1.02 as she’s helping Lizzie get ready for their sweet sixteen party, her hair pulled up in sensible ponytail. Not much new to say here, particularly because I still can't pin down the specific items for how generic they are. But it is interesting to note the contrast being made here - Lizzie complains that Josie's not even dressed for the night yet so that the narrative can highlight that Josie's been helping Lizzie get ready for their party at the expense of getting herself ready on time. It's also interesting that we don't know how this happened - is this a regular occurrence/something that they both just presume will happen? Did Josie start getting ready and pause when Lizzie needed help? (I actually feel pretty confident that she did - her makeup is done. Which, I mean, her makeup is always done, it's a CW show. But her hair is pulled back in a way that would be really efficient for doing her makeup, and she has different earrings than the ones from the day in.)
Tumblr media
Obligatory talisman moment. I naively assumed that this necklace was custom-made for the show, but it's actually this necklace named "Adventure" from Pyrrah. According to the description, "The ship featured on this talisman represents adventure, while the anchors are symbolic of safety and security. Elephant trunks signify good luck. The caduceus is a symbol of Hermes, the patron saint of travelers." While not exactly what Hope describes (a charm to "make quiet things heard), it still seems appropriate for a character whose arc is so wrapped up in repression vs. expression, self-discovery, etc.) Particularly interested in the adventure/patron saint of travelers aspect, given when Josie makes her last appearance with it.
It costs a pretty penny, and there seem to be limited quantities left, as the item has been archived, but it's out there, for what it's worth out. (I'm on a grad student's stipend, sadly, otherwise I would be more seriously tempted. The details seem really intricate.)
She's also sporting what looks like a golden/bronze tie-on charm bracelet in this scene, but alas, I can't find it anywhere. Still, I find it interesting - I don't believe she wears it with her day outfit, but she is still wearing it when she approaches Jo in her dress. It's very pretty and feels a little more whimsical than her usual fare re: accessories.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What I love about Josie’s party dress—its timeless, classic, and elegant nature—also makes it hard to narrow down. I found a few options that it may be, but realistically, I’m not sure. (Am I mad at myself for being able to find so little this ep? Yes. Alas, if I keep letting that stop me, I will never finish this project.) If I had to guess, I would say I think they may have gotten this dress from a bridal shop and altered it somewhat.
I also usually try not to color correct quite so much, but this shot called for a little more, as Legacie's often skewed-green filtering was washing out the color, making it hard to tell the dress is pink.
Anyway, Josie is sporting a pale pink, gauzy dress with a sweetheart neckline. It's one of the looks that stands out to me most from season one (though maybe I just like formal wear), making me a bit said that we never get a particularly great shot of it. The one above is probably the clearest shot, but I wish we could have closed in on it to see some more detail, and seen it in better lighting. Alas, alack. The bottom is also cascading and a bit purposefully-torn looking (I don't know a better word for this, unfortunately), giving it almost the air of a dress from a fairytale.
She's also taken her hair down (though she seems to have perhaps curled it?) very specifically so she can ask Jo to braid it. It's very wholesome.
Tumblr media
More readily visible here is that rhinestone belt Josie accessorizes with. (I didn't color correct as heavily again with this one, so you can see how much the lighting/color grading affects the look of the dress lmao.) It adds a bit of modernity to any otherwise very classic look. I'm also inclined to think it's either sewn into the dress itself, or is a cuff of some kind, because it doesn't extend to the back.
Tumblr media
Instead, there's a white, silky looking bow on the back! It's simultaneously very classic and traditional while also coming off a bit young/juvenile, perhaps emphasizing the vulnerable position Josie finds herself in this episode.
Not pictured because we never get a great shot of them, but I would bet my life the white wedges she's wearing in this look are Aldos.
Tumblr media
I know this is a series on Josie’s style and I keep bringing up Lizzie’s too, but I often find the comparison adds something interesting to the conversation! It’s fascinating to me (especially in an episode so focused on the differences in and unspoken but real tension between Josie and Lizzie’s wants and needs) that their different style preferences are SO on display in their birthday outfits. Josie’s dress is classically feminine and princess-like with a sweetheart neckline, whereas Lizzie’s bright blue fringe dress and white faux-fur shrug is reminiscent of old Hollywood with a modern it-girl twist. The differences in their personalities couldn’t be more on display here and given the content of the episode, I imagine that’s intentional. I also find it interesting/notable that Lizzie stays in-color theme with what both of the twins were wearing earlier, while Josie shifts away from it.
Tumblr media
After getting buried alive, I think I'd probably feel the need for a shower, too. There was a LOT of dirt involved.
Her white tie robe looks fairly basic/standard. I think we may later see her in one that has the Salvatare 'S' emblazoned on, but this one doesn't seem to.
Not easily seen here, but if you pay close attention in this scene, she's still wearing the talisman Hope gave her underneath. <3
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As Josie and Lizzie and Alaric say goodbye to Jo before the twins siphon the magic keeping her 'alive', they've both changed into much more casual clothes - Josie wearing grey sweats and a (very dark) blue sweatshirt, Lizzie in a red hoodie. VERY fair, considering the day they're having. It's interesting that they've switched color schemes, with Lizzie's red a deeper, warmer variation on the pink from Josie's dress earlier, and Josie's navy sweatshirt a similar callback to Lizzie's blue. Very ebb and flow of them. Also noteworthy, Josie's put her hair back up after her shower, whereas Lizzie has let hers back down.
Once again, if you look closely, the chain of the talisman is still visible underneath Josie's sweatshirt. I keep on noticing it because it seems like the type of thing she would normally take off for a shower or getting ready for bed, leading me to wonder if it's helping her feel safe, given what Hope said earlier about it helping them find her.
That's a wrap! I'm a bit disappointed I could only really find one item with this episode, but ah, well. You win and you lose some. As always, if anyone has any info on them, feel free to reach out so I can edit/update this post, and I'll be happy to credit you.

This marks the first (and quite possibly the only) time Josie spends the whole episode in the same outfit, which makes sense, as the events of the plot seem to take place over one day.
Tumblr media
She's kept her hair pretty similarly styled to the episode before, and I still think it's a great style on her!
And we have another Modcloth sweater, this time in navy! This is par for the course for season one Josie, but cute all the same. The bell sleeves we'll see below are a continuation from the last episode (a detail of that red cropped sweater I totally forgot to mention), but the zigzagged stripes (again—somewhat hard to see due to lighting) are new.
And, of course, she accessorizes by attaching an isolated white ruffle collar and a yellow shoe-string tie we'll shortly see matches her skirt. As of now, she can be very predictable when it comes to her accessory choices. Though I don't think it's the same one she wore in the last episode. The idea that she owns multiple is both telling and adorable.
Tumblr media
It also looks like she's wearing these pearl-hook Angara earrings she wore in the first episode! I've been very pleasantly surprised by how the costuming department has been incorporating pieces multiple times, and I'm excited to see if it continues on. Also notable because Lizzie's rocking pearl earrings of her own, though there are two and they seem slightly bigger. #twingoals
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Later on, we see she's paired the sweater with this yellow fringe skirt with a row of buttons at three sides! I was surprised to learn this skirt is part of a set that goes with a matching crop top. It's interesting that she chooses not to wear it directly after the first episode we saw her wear one in. I wonder if she wore it under her sweater? I would guess not, but I can't tell for sure one way or another.
She's also got another pair of gold earrings set above them. I can't quite make out the shape (they're somewhat jagged, like an arrow, but I'm not sure).
She also wears bright red tights under the skirt. Primary colors galore! The color palette reminds me a bit of the palette from 1.04, as both coordinate blue, yellow, and red, but it's a little more of a traditionally studious look.
I couldn't get a good shot of her shoes, but they're strappy black platform heels. While I'm not sure, I believe they could be these Aldo heels wornontv lists her wearing in 3.03. It's possible they had them that early, and that was just the first time they were able to be identified. But who knows!
This is definitely another solid look for Josie, so I'm definitely happy to choose it as my favorite look of the episode (even if there ARE no other looks, lmao). Here she is:

Hope Is Not the Goal
Episode 4 features one of my favorite Josie outfits in the entire show, so yay!
Also, hi. It's been forever. Whoops!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
First off, accessories, since they're the most visible in her first appearances. These gold, threaded earrings with gold bars hanging down are some of my favorite we've seen Josie in so far! Unfortunately, I can't find the original pair, but these are a handmade pair on Poshmark, and they seem like a close approximation.
I find this pair especially notable because this is the first time Josie's wearing dangling earrings, which, so far, have been more of Lizzie's thing. This episode is one of firsts, though. More on that later.
Josie, as she is wont to do, is also sporting a detachable, white, ruffled collar. While it's not an accessory I would normally pick, I think it works well to show off Josie's somewhat preppy and reserved nature, even as she's experimenting a little more with style this episode.
I love her hair this episode, too! It's still stylistically curled, but just a shade looser than it has been. It's giving princess waves, instead of studious coils. Pictured above, we can see on her right, she's pinned part of it back, following the trend this early first season has established of Josie pulling her hair from her forehead. Interestingly, though, she keeps the other side unpinned and lets it fall to frame her face. I like this look a lot more than what she has been doing with her hair, and Kaylee Kaneshiro pulls it off really well.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Honestly, one reason it took me so long to update was because I was so frustrated I couldn’t find this Fifth the Label top. I can mostly move on when I can’t find something, but I love this outfit so much. As I was diving back into this project, I was about to give up when I finally found it? I feel like I am on drugs.
It's the first, though certainly not the last, crop top we see Josie in! So far, this season, she's been pretty buttoned up. Crop tops won't be unusual fare for Josie down the line, but in season one, it certainly stands out. She's clearly experimenting in this episode, maybe a little because Rafael is back, maybe a little because this episode is one of the first about Josie coming into her own as she stands up to her father at the end with regards to her perspective that the school needs to teach defensive magic. Josie's whole arc is threaded with this theme of Josie coming into her own and learning (messily) to advocate what she needs and believes in. Maybe it seems small, but I personally don't think the show is shy about using style to build character, perhaps especially with Josie, who, IMHO, uses it to perform quite a lot.
The cropped sweater is a bright red and looks extremely soft in that Depop picture (alas, the only place I could find it), with yellow trim above the end of the sleeves and at the hem. Both are also almost scalloped? But the valleys are slightly deeper and longer and sharper, like teeth.
It’s paired, of course, with a plaid, navy skirt—but I don’t believe it’s her regular school skirt? It’s a little more high-waisted, has a little more volume, and has some sort of zipper/buckle accessory attached? The closest thing I can find is this French Toast skirt, though it doesn't look like it would sit as high as it does on Josie.
Regardless, it’s a Whole Look (TM.)
I belieeeve she’s wearing the same yellow Aldos she wore with her yellow sweater in 1.01! Now, they're in conversation with the yellow trim on her sweater. Love a repeat item, proving her closet is more relatable than meets the eye. It also shows her skill, once again, in coordinating color very well! It reminds me a bit of how she coordinated her first outfit in 1.01, though this look is notably less buttoned-up and preppy. She does pair it with black knee-high socks, though, so that's not to say there's no preppy involved.
Red and yellow, so far, are definitely stacking up as her colors this season.
This outfit manages to be well-coordinated, trendy if a little quirky, and still lets her polished style shine through. It's certainly my favorite outfit we've seen her in so far, and it's probably in my top 5 Josie looks altogether.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We see so little of this look, I fully forgot about it until I was scanning through the episode. Yet I am pretty positive the top is this light blue cable-knit J. Crew sweater, and I think we might get some more appearances of it later on? It's pretty simple and works well with what we've seen Josie in already, as sweaters are her bread and butter this season. It's a relatively simple look in comparison to a lot of her other outfits this season, but that actually makes sense, as it's what she's changed into after she, Hope, and Lizzie get monster goop exploded all over them.
I couldn't get a good shot of them, but she also opted for simple black shorts. I can't be sure, but I think they might be the shorts she wore while serving volunteer detention in 1.03! We don't get a super great look at them, though. Her earrings are also still present, so they must have remained goop-free.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pretty sure she’s sporting this red and white J. Crew pajama set, though the lighting makes it skew a bit blue/green. The collar (and sleeves and hem of the shorts, though those were harder to snap a picture of it) has a red trim, paralleling the yellow trim of her day sweater. We love a girl who's on theme. (She's also so busy working on her offensive magic proposal and then lightly telling her father off that she hasn't taken her earrings out for bed yet. #ambitious queen.) For some reason, I'm also noticing her makeup more than I have been so far. Maybe her eyeshadow is a bit darker, her lips a bit fuller? Hm. Much to think on.
It should come as no surprise that this was my favorite outfit:
Tumblr media
It's very experimental, thus far, for Josie, yet still incorporates all the things that have marked her style so far! Definitely an iconic look.

We’re Being Punked, Pedro
Episode three, babyyy!
I always forget that Josie has another outfit before the t-shirt and shorts combo she spends most of the episode in.
Experimenting with some modest lighting/color correcting for these caps this time around.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Josie starts off the episode in her second blazer of the season. I remember at least two more, making it undeniably the most blazer-heavy season for her; from what I remember, they became less common in her wardrobe as time went on. But they’re good for establishing her as a serious and academically-minded student who cares about what she looks like. It’s also cropped slightly and the ends are angled, making it a somewhat trendier look than a traditional blazer, which gives it more personality.
It’s also yellow, which is another common theme with her this season, and has those interesting single pleats in the middle. Yellow’s an interesting color choice to associate so heavily with a character who performs happiness while struggling to admit when she’s struggling so much.
Unfortunately, /I/ struggled to find where the exact blazer hails from. Alas, alack. If anyone has any info on it, please feel free to reach out!
Tumblr media
Gasp. Shock face.
What shocked me about this outfit is the shirt she wears under her blazer. if you look closely, it’s almost certainly this white Modcloth blouse with a Peter Pan collar that she wears in both 2.02 and 3.18. I was surpised not only because an item from her wardobe got repeated three times (though that’s always a pleasant surprise in my book, as it makes the world feel more grounded), but because I didn’t even know they had this shirt for her by early season one. It maintains some of her common motifs (the material is textured and tranlucent and the Peter Pan collar has interesting detail work - black stitching that matches the sleeves), but it’s a little more youthful, playful, and trendy than similar blouses we’ve seen her in thus far. I’ve always associated it with her early season 2 wardrobe shift, so it’s interesting that she already owns it here! Also interesting: despite being a beautiful piece that stands on its own, it’s far more covered up here than it is in its other two appearances; appropriate as Josie is still more reserved and buttoned-up than she may come to be later.
She accessorizes with a red tie and interestingly pairs the outfit with pants this time. I’m pretty sure they’re black slacks, despite the filtering on the scene skewing green in a major way. What captures my attention about this though; what exactly is the school uniform? I’ve always assumed it was: a button-down and/or blazer with the school symbol sewn to one or the other, the plaid skirt, or plaid pants. But Josie’s pants are, to my knowledge, pure black. So maybe the plaid is optional? Idk. (Edit: I found her pants! They’re listed further below. They’re actually navy, so I now have even more questions.)
Also, a moment of appreciation for Kaylee Bryant’s hair. Wowza. It’s obviously curled and styled, but I’m glad they’re letting it fall and frame her face more this time around. Her space buns were cute, but they kept pulling all of her hair away from her face and forehead in a way that looked a bit strange to me.
The color palette of this outfit kind of has a lot going on, but I’m not actually mad about it. I think the red and yellow work especially well together here (and they’re two colors we’ll see her pair at least one more time this season) and I like the contrast of the smooth but rigid blazer and the likely soft but textured shirt she’s wearing. Lots of variety.
Speaking of pants! Here are her navy slacks, from Banana Republic. They're practical, but the scalloped hem at the ankle gives them a little edge.
I’d say the one thing I’m not really a fan of is these silver Aldo heels.
They’re very similar to the Aldos she wore in 1.01, (and that indeed seems to be the shoe brand they’ve tied her to so far), but they don’t really match the vibe of the rest of the outfit. I think they’d work in a little bit of a more formal look but… shrug. I just think they’re a miss here.
Tumblr media
I’m pretty sure it’s supposed to be the same day since Alaric called the girls in from class to tell them they had to do community service. It seems strange that they all changed outfits, but I guess it checks out that they might not want to wear their preppy takes on their school uniform off-campus. It’s also quite possibly hot out—the show isn’t always super clear about the timeline.
What I find notable here is that Lizzie and Josie both pulled their hair into a half-up, half-down look. (A ponytail for Josie and a bun for Lizzie.) Styling can do a lot to show that even when they’re fighting, they’re sisters through and through.
I would bet money that this yellow t-shirt with blue bows on the sleeves is actually printed with bows, rather than being separate accessories. (EDIT: After getting a better look at the angle of the bow, I can clearly see it’s an attached accessory. Despite being wrong? ironically, I feel a lot better about not being able to find it. There are a LOT of yellow t-shirts out there.) However, I’ve searched high and low for the shirt, and I can’t find it anywhere. One of these days, I’m going to make a post and not know where ANYTHING is from, LMAO. As it is, I still only know where the Modcloth shirt and the shoes are from, because I couldn’t find the shorts either, lmao.
But! They are black and high-waisted, and the waistband, when visible, is blue and plaid, coordinating nicely with those elusive bows. She also seems to be wearing something else under her t-shirt; perhaps an isolated collar, but I’m actually wondering if it’s the polo she wore in 1.01.
It’s a relatively simple outfit with just a few little details, but it comes together nicely!
Number of Outfits: Just 2 this time!
Favorite Look: The Modcloth shirt is probably my favorite piece, but since we'll get a better view of it later, I opted for her day clothes while volunteering.
Tumblr media
Simple but cute! This outfit is a nice change of pace for Josie so far, but doesn’t feel so out of left field.
Thanks for reading! Hope you enjoyed. As always, if you have any information about a piece, I’d love to add it here and would be happy to credit you.

Some People Just Want to Watch the World Burn
Here we are again! From what I remember, Josie spends a lot of this episode in her jersey and shorts, so there may not be a lot to say. But let’s find out!
Tumblr media
Actually, Josie starts off the epsiode in this white Universal Thread blouse with ruffle sleeves. It’s a bit similar and shape in style than her white blouse from the last episode, but the collar is more traditional, the sleeves are bigger, the fit is flowier, and it just generally looks a little more comfortable. It’s also a button-up, making it fairly standard school-uniform fare, just with lot more personality. The material is somewhat translucent and heathered and the ruffled sleeves are hemmed at the edges to be an isolated detail. Once again, I kind of hate this blouse while simultaneously loving that she wears it. The duality of man.
Once again, a scoop-neck camisole is visible below, as the shirt is slightly translucent, and I would bet it’s the same one or a duplicate. The neckline looks exactly the same. We love a girl who stock-piles multiples of a basic for layering purposes. (Actually, it’s probably the same one. I think it’s fairly standard practice to reuse undershirts once or twice after initial use, so long as there aren’t any major sweat or other stains. But who knows? I also definitely think Josie is neurotic enough to have mutliple.)
I’m once again forced to assume her tie is from ASOS, as I can’t find a listing or google-reverse search Hail Mary anywhere. I think it’s cute (though certainly not my style), but I don’t feel it goes especially well with the outfit. The silver against the white becomes sort of washed out. But the sparkly silver nature of it has a lot more personality than last episode’s tie.
Her hair is also up in her space bun with wisps look! I’m liking it a lot more than I liked her half-up, half-down updo from the first episode. There seems to be a lot of emphasis on pulling her hair back and out of her face and her forehead, though, which is interesting, as I don’t feel like that tendency sticks after the first few episodes.
The whole look is... not really as well-coordinated as her outfits from last episode, though that may be intentional. As mentioned in my last post, she was putting her best face on for the school tour (or what she thinks of as her best face), but she doesn’t have reason for that now. The whole outfit is a little more childlike and playful than her 1.01 outfits, though, especially with her hair styled the way it is. We’re seeing a bit of a different side to her style personality here.
Also interesting: her not being dressed for the football game yet when Lizzie is. In this episode, she seems less invested in the game in general than Lizzie, and we’ll also see her hesitance about using their powers to win later on. Her lack of enthusiasm could be read into pretty easily here.
That being said, there’s not an especially screenshot-able moment here, but she’s wearing her plaid unifom skirt along with it, her blouse tucked in as we’re learning is standard for her, and she’s carrying books with her. So it may be more likely that she had a class before the game, and maybe Lizzie had a free period or something.
Once again, tragically, the shoes are only visible in a blur of movement in .7 second shots, but they’re definitely black and they’re either the loafers from last episode (I can own being wrong!) or black dress shoes. My money’s on the loafers. She’s wearing white socks with them, though interestingly, they’re not knee highs this time, at least while she’s in her school clothes.
The look as a whole reads a lot simpler than her comparable blouse + skirt outfit in 1.01, and more utilitarian.
Tumblr media
Adorning her ears are: a two-ring silver cuff sitting highest (maybe hoops, but my best guess would be that they’re not pierced), a gold bar (I think; it’s partially covered by her hair, but this was the best earring shot), and a gold stud directly underneath it.
She’s also sporting some adorable face-paint. Go Stallions!
Tumblr media
Aaa, missed one! Her two star-shaped studded flat earrings became more visible in this shot. It’s really cute becaaaauuuse...
Tumblr media
Lizzie’s rocking star earrings too! (In the first part of the episode, anyway. She takes them off sometime before the game, which is actually probably smart, lol.) I love finding little details the costume department chose to connect them as sisters and show their closeness. Interestingly, it’s the second episode in a row where Lizzie’s been wearing one longer hanging earring, where Josie’s wearing multiple that rest closer to her ear.
Tumblr media
It’s hard to find a lot to say about her outfit when it’s the same as what everyone else is wearing, but: she did change into knee-high socks for the game! They’re striped with grey at the top, giving them a sportier look. Her sneakers are white and striped with either grey or a muted blue. She went for utility here, but makes up for it with the aforementioned adorable hairstyle (that also happens to pull her hair out of her face; smart for running around in the heat), and a ribbon that’s ribbed or sectioned in some way, and matches the cobalt blue of her shorts exactly. (I’m gonna be constantly repeating myself if I keep saying the accesories are likely from ASOS (or a similar store), but that doesn’t make it less true.)
Tumblr media
When we next see Josie after the game, she’s dressed for bed in her PJs and she’s let her hair down to fall in its natural waves. The shirt could be from literally anywhere - you can even find a basic scoop neck sleep tee at big box retailers in the apparel sections. Same for the shorts honestly, though these Tangnade drawstring shorts look pretty close. I’m not sure they’re the right shade, though - Josie’s are clearly a muted grey-blue, and the linked shorts fall closer to a pure grey.
Every girl I know (and I’m sure many non-girls too!) have a pajama look like this. It’s probably my go-to, though I would likely trade the t-shirt for a camisole if possible. It’s especially good if you’re someone who overheats easily in the night.
Not pictured, but Josie’s also wearing blue slippers that match her shorts. Cute!
Tumblr media
Obligatory “how is Kaylee Bryant so pretty” meltdown. Look at that hair. Oh my god.
And that’s all, folks!
Number of Outfits: 3 again!
Favorite Piece: Even though it’s simple, I really like her sleepclothes outfit, as I feel it’s very relatable and Kaylee Bryant can wear simple really well. A big fan of the shorts, personally, as they’re sort of a universal standard.
Tumblr media
Thanks for reading! That’s all for now.

Pinned Post
Hi there! This is a passion project/sideblog wherein I analyze the clothes of Josie Saltzman from the CW’s Legacies episode by episode.
I’m not especially well-versed in fashion terminology or investigating brands and tracking down specific products, but part of the fun of this project is learning!
Though many character fashion blogs exist, my initial inspiration was @bettycooperoutfitwatch, so thanks a bunch to them!
My posts definitely would not be possible without the ShopYourTV website, and I’m super grateful for that resource. I’ll also be sure to add more resources and shout-outs as I go along.
I’m gonna try to get a more organized desktop theme, but that’s on the back-burner for now.
I”m not on a super regular schedule; this is, after all, a pasison projecte in my free-time. But I enjoy it a lot and I’m excited for anyone else to find enjoyment in it as well!
That’s all for now!

This is the Part Where You Run, 1.01
Hello! This is my new sideblog/project/series where I go episode-by-episode in each episode of Legacies that Josie Saltzman appears in and talk about her style choices.
Though there are many blogs out there focused on character style, my initial inspiration was @bettycooperoutfitwatch so a huge shoutout and thank you to them!
ShopYourTV was also hugely helpful, as it’s where I found more info about the majority of the pieces that were able to be tracked down, so thanks to them! I’ll be sure to mention these shout-outs in a pinned post soon, but for now, this will have to do. I’m not super well-versed in fashion terminology and how to go about finding things, and learning is part of the fun of this series. I really appreciate having this resource!
Onto the analysis!
Being my favorite character, of course I tend to pay the most attention to Josie’s style, but I also think that’s somewhat intentional within the show! While the other characters are by no means without their own sense of style or interesting outfits, Josie, in my humble opinion, often gets the most to talk about! Her style goes through quite a few changes each season, but there are staples and common motifs throughout! She’s also one of the characters that represents the most common day-to-day trends. (Nevermind that technically, Legacies takes place a decade or so past our current timeline.)
Let’s get into it.
First Look
Tumblr media
This is the most Buttoned Up (TM) we’ll see Josie in this episode, so I guess it’s apt it’s during her first appearance, when she’s trying to make a good impression while she and Lizzie give Rafael the school tour.
She and Lizzie aren’t exactly matching, but they’ve certainly coordinated their white undershirts, blue blazers, and preppy-yet-stylish ties that—ha—tie together their uniforms.
I’m pretty certain that the blazer is this cotton Ralph Lauren number, marked at $195. I don’t plan to detail the cost of every item in this series, because that’s not often something being considered that heavily in the costuming departments of teen dramas (#suspend your disbelief), but I think it’s thematically relevant to mention here. Landon and Rafael are, of course, fairly shell-shocked by the news of a school for the Supernatural and one that’s for “troubled rich kids” to boot. Lizzie and Josie being in their preppiest get-ups here adds to that conflict, but we also see hints of Josie’s personality shining through as well. The ruffled collar of her shirt, for instance, will come back into play numerous times, as will various accessory components. While I can’t find the exact tie she swears here, based on her other accessories in season one, I feel confident it’s from ASOS. It’s striped between a dark and light shade of blue, easily mistaken as plain navy if not looking closely, and adds to her charmingly over-accessorized look here. Her pearl-hook Angara earrings (if I’m not mistaken, the original price is listed at $360) also add to the look. While I knew Kaylee Bryant had multiple piercings later on, I didn’t realize that was already true by 1.01! Along with her pearls, Josie also dons these yellow-gold bar earrings ($98), signifying an edge and sense of contemporary trends that might not be visible at first glance.
Her hair is also pulled back in a half-up, half-down look that is sure to show off her earrings. Josie’s being very purposeful in showing off what she perceives as the most sophisticated, polished version of herself.
Tumblr media
Interestingly, though, whie it maintains a similar shape to the shape her outfit would have if she was wearing the Salvaotore School Skirt, she’s instead clad in what I’m pretty sure is this red zip-up J.Crew skirt. The bright red, while also a bolder choice than her school skirt, matches not only the S emblazoned on her jacket, but the tie Lizzie wears in the first shot, tying her to both the legacy (#pun intended) of the school and to her twin sister. (Note: I’m mostly going to focus on Josie for this series, but there are some relevant comparisons to be made. Lizzie opts for a pair of plaid pants during the day and while she doesn’t never wear skirts, she often seems to opt for pants and we see her in a fair few more jumpsuits than Josie as well. Skirts seem to be a little more Josie’s thing than her sister’s.)
It looks like it might be hemmed, but it’s also sitting fairly high on her. We’ll see high-waisted pieces that are a lot more visible on Josie later on.
I didn’t include a shot of them here because that way leads to blurriness, but she’s also wearing knee-high socks from ASOS (I can’t find the exact socks or the exact price, but I would guess anywhere from $6-17 based on current ASOS prices for similar products.)
While we don’t get a clear-enough shot of her shoes and I can’t seeem to find them anywhere, they’re very clearly black loafers. While I can’t be certain, I think it’s likely they’re from Aldo, as that brand seems to be a favorite for Josie’s shoes this season. Practical if a little stuffy, they go decently with the rest of her outfit, but don’t stick around as a staple of her wardrobe. I think the wardrobe department did really well showing us a lot about her character, but in the first few episodes, while everyone’s still getting a feel for the characters, there’s bound to be a few experimental picks that don’t get repeated. This was clearly one of them.
Look 1.5
Tumblr media
It’s only when Josie approaches Alaric and Hope’s sparring session that we see the full blouse she wears underneath her blue blazer, a scoop-neck camisole visible underneath. Both her blouse and camisole are also tucked into her skirt, another common theme in Josie’s style. (Also: lots of layers for what I imagine is late summer/early fall. Did the school year just start? If so, she totally got hot and took her jacket off. Queen of being relatable. <3.) While I don’t think it’s the exact same top, it’s reminiscent of this high-neck ruffled Neiman Marcus blouse. The shape, sleeves, and translucent lace paneling are all spot-on. Not to mention that this brand totally goes in her preppy-girl wheelhouse. However, Josie’s ruffled sleeves seem to hang lower, the hem of her sleeve doesn’t go across her chest, and her neckline seems more ruffled. I couldn’t find the exact top she wears, but this was the best approximation. There’s a LOT going on with it.
(Note: I have a love-hate relationship with this whole outfit. It’s so meticulously put-together and also has WAY too much going on, imho, while striking for a classic look. We love that for her, though. The whole vibe is that she’s... put-together and clearly has a good sense of style, but she’s also trying a little too hard? Makes a lot of sense for her character at this moment in time.)
Look 2
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The perfect fit for jail-breaking a new acquaintance from the local werewolf transition space!
The party at the Old Mill happens on the same school-day that Josie and Lizzie were giving Rafael his tour, but after dark. Which means she changed into this blue polo with a yellow collar and, of course, the matching yellow Salvatore S—but she also pairs it with her blue-black plaid school uniform skirt. For a party. What a dork. I love her. (It’s especially funny that she had to change out of her day-skirt and into the plaid to accomplish this. Makes me wonder if it was in the wash or something.)
It manages to still be preppy (it is a polo, after all), but there’s a light-heartedness and simplicity to it that isn’t there in her day-outfit. I wish I had the receipts, but I can’t find the polo anywhere (as every scene she wears it in is so dark), I’m pretty sure the uniform skirts were custom-made for the show, and there are no good shots of her shoes (though I imagine she’s still in the loafers from the day). Shame upon my household.
Even so, it’s fun for me to take note that as much as she tries dress down a bit for the party (and wear less layers so she can get some of that sweet late summer breeeeze), she’s still wearing a nice shirt, her school uniform skirt, and her hair is still all done up from earlier. There’s a slight awkwardness to her character at times that doesn’t come from how she talks or her facial expressions, but the way she carries herself and the way she often dresses just a shade too formal for where she actually is. (But would we expect anything less from one of Caroline Forbes’ daughters?)
Tumblr media
The next day, Josie’s wearing this mustard-yellow Modcloth sweater. It’s a classic look and the Peter Pan collar will reappear quite a bit in season one (and the rest of the series, to an extent). She wears it neatly tucked into her school skirt, black tights layered underneath (interesting - she didn’t wear tights with either of the previous day’s outfits), and I think we’re meant to assume that another day of classes has passed considering that it’s dark out by the time of the meeting and she’s clearly dressed for a day of school.
Tumblr media
Once again, she’s got the Salvatore S added onto her sweater, and the edge of the collar is scalloped and lined with black stitching. It’s really fine detail work that adds a lot of personality to what’s otherwise a very classic piece.
Tumblr media
Though I think I subsonciously already knew this, I was surprised to be reminded that the collar actually goes all the way around to the back. My perception of most shirts that come with a collar attached (rather than shirts that are accessorized with one) is that they are an illusion and I was pleasantly surprised, as I think it extending all the way around adds a maturity and depth to the sweater that I quite like.
Tumblr media
Josie’s wearing different earrings from the day before, but unfortunately, they’re not listed anywhere that I can find, nor was I was able to track them down via reversing the images. So description will have to do! They seem to be (maybe a somewhat muted?) yellow-gold tone in color, and I would bet they’re plated with real gold. Highest on her right ear is a two-armed cuff that I don’t think is actually pierced, sitting several inches below it is a gold bar, right underneath that is a gold stud, and underneath that is a small gold hoop—possibly accentuated with rhinestones, but it’s difficult to tell. It’s unclear whether her other ear is similarly adorned because of lighting, angles, and the way her hair falls. Regardless, I love this look! I think focusing on the accessories on top and letting the sweater speak for itself here nails something that yesterday’s school tour look just didn’t. There’s a lot going on with her ear accesories, but it all feels very her, and doesn’t distract from or confuse the other pieces.
Tumblr media
Sleeves! Needless to say, they match her collar, though both are individually sewn to the sweater - there’s not a full undershirt sewn into it.
I really love this sweater, can you tell?
Tumblr media
Unfortunately, the sold-out page for the shoes Josie’s wearing doesn’t show the prodcut, so I’m just linking to the Shop Your TV page. The chunky yellow platform heels she wears are a lot more stylish than her loafers from earlier, but they’re still a somewhat sensible choice that tells us a lot about her character. They’re hard to see, but this is the best shot of them. The heel isn’t particularly tall, the platform is very wide and better to lean one’s weight on than, say, a stilletto, the toe is closed, and the strap around the ankle with a metallic buckle adds an extra bit of support. They’re fashionable and well-coordinated with her outfit, but still show her to be a more reserved, cautious person.
And there we have it! That’s every outfit Josie wears in this first episode. I’ll definitely have more interesting things to say about her style as the show goes on, but I think this first episode does a great job of establishing her character.
Number of Outfits: I would say this is really just 3 outfits total, but the school tour outfit minus the blazer definitely stands out on its own, too.
Favorite Piece: Yellow Modcloth sweater all the way! I love the collar, the stitching, the color. It’s very quintessentially Josie, and what I imagine when I think of her in season one. Here’s her gif in reward! A Moment (TM) for Josie fashion.
Tumblr media
Thanks for reading thus far! This is a passion project and definitely on the back-burner, so I don’t totally know when I’ll be uploading next, but I’m excited to continue it! If you have knowledge on any pieces that I couldn’t find the links for, please feel free to reach out and let me know! I would love to edit this post to be more complete, and I would happily give you credit. Bye for now!
