B E N O T A F R A I D O F G R EA T N E S S. Joan of Arc (1903) by Albert Lynch Joan of Arc, a peasant girl living in medieval France, believed that God had chosen her to lead France to victory in its long-running war with England. With no military training, Joan convinced the embattled crown prince Charles of Valois to allow her to lead a French army to the besieged city of Orléans, where it achieved a momentous victory over the English and their French allies, the Burgundians. After seeing the prince crowned King Charles VII, Joan was captured by Anglo-Burgundian forces, tried for witchcraft and heresy and burned at the stake in 1431, at the age of 19. By the time she was officially canonized in 1920, the Maid of Orléans (as she was known) had long been considered one of history’s greatest saints, and an enduring symbol of French unity and nationalism. Alternative Titles: La Pucelle d’Orléans, Sainte Jeanne d’Arc, The Maid of Orléans “I am not afraid... I was born to do this.” — Joan of Arc Artistic reimagining by @mafeldah @truly_._madly #joanofarc #historyreimagined #aapi https://www.instagram.com/p/CMI3cg0l8-7/?igshid=1wo25yhxff9dd

I A M N O M A N The Accolade by Edmund Blair Leighton (1901), depicts a queen, probably Guinevere, honouring a knight, probably Sir Lancelot. While the reimagining was originally inspired by Guinevere, when I look at the queen in the painting and the queen I am reimagined as, I can’t help but think of Éowyn and this exchange with Aragorn. Aragorn : You have some skill with a blade. Eowyn : The women of this country learned long ago, those without swords can still die upon them. I fear neither death nor pain. Aragorn : What do you fear, my lady? Eowyn : A cage. To stay behind bars until use and old age accept them and all chance of valor has gone beyond recall or desire. Aragorn : You are a daughter of kings, a shieldmaiden of Rohan. I do not think that will be your fate. To think how vastly the world would be now, if we had only allowed little girls to grow to be strong women, encouraged to swing their own swords. D O N ‘ T L O S E Y O U R H E A D ✨ Anne Boleyn was Queen of England from 1533 to 1536 as the second wife of King Henry VIII. Their marriage, and her execution for treason and other charges by beheading, made her a key figure in the political and religious upheaval that marked the start of the English Reformation. “Before anything else I was a woman who was capable of passion and who had a great need and a great desire for love.” ― Philippa Gregory, The Other Boleyn Girl Artist Reimagining by the wonderful @mafeldah @truly_._madly. T H I N K O F M E @mafeldah’s artistic reimagining of me as Empress Elisabeth of Austria. If the dress and hair look familiar, the portrait titled "Empress Elisabeth of Austria in Courtly Gala Dress with Diamond Stars (1865)" by artist Franz Xaver Winterhalter (1805-1873), inspired the the look of Emmy Rossum’s Christine Daae during “Think of Me” in the "Phantom of the Opera” film. I don’t even recognize myself. Thank you Mads! Artist credit: @mafeldah @truly_._madly https://www.instagram.com/p/CLp9JIrlNdN/?igshid=mcc4b83nhgo1

Possibly the most patriotic July 4th event I’ve ever been a part of — a Black Lives Matter March in the heart downtown Nashville led by six brilliant, bold, and brave little women (@teens.for.equality / ages 14-16). Racism and white supremacy do not take vacations and neither do we. The work continues, the future is bright, and I am again inspired and moved by the next generation of activists. You better get used to hearing it.. black lives matter — yesterday, today, tomorrow, and always. 🖤✊🏿✊🏾✊🏽✊🏼✊🏻 (at Nashville, Tennessee) https://www.instagram.com/p/CCPoINUFJBg/?igshid=1fitvj8zqcbo9

For years now I have heard the word "Wait!" It rings in the ear of every Negro with piercing familiarity. This "Wait" has almost always meant "Never." We must come to see, with one of our distinguished jurists, that "justice too long delayed is justice denied. — Martin Luther King Jr., Letter from the Birmingham Jail I am no longer accepting the things I cannot change. I am changing the things I cannot accept. — Angela Y. Davis To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder… This is not something that I am going to run by anybody. I am not looking for approval. I have to stand up for people that are oppressed. — Colin Kaepernick #blacklivesmatter (at Peaceful Protest) https://www.instagram.com/p/CBR0eM7FgJ1/?igshid=13nyjfo6qv42w

“Another Solar Return” A sea of gratitude splashes onto the inner walls of this humbled heart within me. Seasons, poets, places, people, singing, devotion, faith, trust... Years have rained down like petals from a flowering tree. Abundance blesses me in true simplicity. As my soul enters the womb of renewal, unexpected blessings wing across the world to say hello from where our sun already shines. Manila, New Zealand, Delhi, Chennai, where you are it is already morning, and the warm sunlight of your day shines in your greetings and wishes. May the bliss that you bring me, dear world family, splash all over your own dear hearts, and may peace and harmony be ours on this beautiful blue planet! — Elisa Maria Argiro p.s.
