He wasn’t hiding from her. It was a—strategic retreat. He had strategically retreated to the upstairs hallway of the inn after Jiao Liqiao came into the dining room because he was in no mood to fight her off. He could hear her overturning half the tables, shouting at the waiters. Sooner rather than later, they’d be convinced by her mounting property damage to rat him out. Yes, they’d seen a tall man with once-fine clothes and a three days’ beard—if only Miss Jiao would please stop breaking the nice tableware.  He eyed the series of identical doors to guest rooms. It being early evening, the dinner hour, they were probably not occupied. He could go into one and clamber through a window and make the best of the drop from the second story. Could spend a little neili on the jump, even, if he had to. He had just chosen the third door—was about to shove it open—when it whisked open under his hands.  “Lao Di!” cried an all too familiar voice.  Di Feisheng groaned. He was beset on all sides. “Hello, Fang Duobing.” A familiar flutter of blue silk engulfed him. He stood still, arms at his sides, and did not hug Fang Duobing back. Once he had finished clinging—although he did not actually let go of Di Feisheng’s arms—Fang Duobing said sulkily, “You told Xiaoyi where I was, didn’t you?” “Yes,” Di Feisheng said. He hustled Fang Duobing into the bedroom, shutting the door behind him. “I was trying to get rid of you.” “Lao Di!” Fang Duobing shouted. “How could you?” The boy was pouting at him, gesticulating wildly and expounding on the cruelty and suffering and many fantastic meals he had experienced while trapped at Tianji Manor.

I've been resource gathering for YEARS so now I am going to share my dragons hoard

Floorplanner. Design and furnish a house for you to use for having a consistent background in your comic or anything! Free, you need an account, easy to use, and you can save multiple houses.

Comparing Heights. Input the heights of characters to see what the different is between them. Great for keeping consistency. Free.

Magma. Draw online with friends in real time. Great for practice or hanging out. Free, paid plan available, account preferred.

Smithsonian Open Access. Loads of free images. Free.

SketchDaily. Lots of pose references, massive library, is set on a timer so you can practice quick figure drawing. Free.

SculptGL. A sculpting tool which I am yet to master, but you should be able to make whatever 3d object you like with it. free.

Pexels. Free stock images. And the search engine is actually pretty good at pulling up what you want.

Figurosity. Great pose references, diverse body types, lots of "how to draw" videos directly on the site, the models are 3d and you can rotate the angle, but you can't make custom poses or edit body proportions. Free, account option, paid plans available.

Line of Action. More drawing references, this one also has a focus on expressions, hands/feet, animals, landscapes. Free.

Animal Photo. You pose a 3d skull model and select an animal species, and they give you a bunch of photo references for that animal at that angle. Super handy. Free.

Height Weight Chart. You ever see an OC listed as having a certain weight but then they look Wildly different than the number suggests? Well here's a site to avoid that! It shows real people at different weights and heights to give you a better idea of what these abstract numbers all look like. Free to use.

okay real quick before it is midnight! because I didn't have enough mlc wips, today I woke up with a thought, word-vomited the entire outline for a fluffy post-canon ot3 fic into an unsuspecting friend's dms, and then started writing.

the working title for this is just difanghua, romcom edition.

Li Lianhua breathes in the evening air and the perfumes of passing ladies, and feels a pang of nostalgia. Not a painful jab of memory, but a soft, pleasing echo. It has too been long since he's been out at night like this, free and at his ease. There is no criticising his company, either. Di Feisheng no longer goes about in his sect-leader finery, but he cuts a strapping figure in well-tailored linen and leather, his hair a sleek black fall down his back. Li Lianhua has resigned himself to the silver that crowds his own temples—It's dignified, Fang Duobing always says, soothing. In no time at all, you'll pass for a Taoist master. Of course, while Di Feisheng may brood handsomely at Li Lianhua's shoulder, Fang Duobing himself turns even more heads. The last of his boyish slenderness has filled out into lean, limber strength, and his eyes are bright with cleverness as much as youthful resolve. If his blue silks are a few seasons out of fashion, no one will care. He smiles at something Di Feisheng says, and a young woman quite uninvolved in their exchange nearly drops her fan in fluttering shock. "Come," Li Lianhua says, before Fang Duobing's face causes an incident. "Let's find our table. You can charm the locals once we have a foothold." Fang Duobing casts an alarmed look his way. "I wasn't—" "You weren't. It's simply a thing your face does now. Wield it with care." "If I didn't know better, I'd say you're envious, old fox," Fang Duobing huffs, and leads them in.

Sometimes, when I think about di feisheng, I see a cat. A feral cat with the cute grumpy face. He will bite your hand, of course, but also dutifully guarding your back if you fed him and giving him a proper pat when he demand it.

Art Advice #4 - A Beginner’s Guide to Digital Art

Now, I am by no means an expert at digital (I’ve been doing it for nearly 8 years at this point and that is almost entirely self taught), but I have picked up a few pointers in that time which will hopefully help anyone just starting out!

I'm so glad this comes through in the drama - in the manga it's more explicitly stated that Wang Ye was able to understand and succeed in the Gate of Gale because he didn't want it. Those three hermits were there for decades trying to understand it but couldn't because they wanted it too much, and it drove them crazy. Yet Wang Ye was able to understand it with a passing glance, because he embodied the daoist concept of "wu wei" (sometimes called the action of non-action). The Gate of Gale can only be attained by someone without ambition.

I'm currently rewatching I Am Nobody S1 for research purposes, and it's just so fucking funny to me that the main reason why Wang Ye inherited Gate of Gale, one of the Eight Supreme Abilities, is because he has zero ambitions as a martial artist. 😂

Six Sentences Sunday

Shockingly, I managed to get some time to write this weekend, so have some sentences from the next chapter of the rock star au.

They all settle back down on what turns out to be a pale blue blanket, Fang Duobing pulling out his lunch, the girls going back to theirs. They manage a little bit of small talk about classes, enough that Kira starts to unfreeze and Fang Duobing allows himself to feel hopeful. 

“So,” Chenchen says, cocking her head, “what’s the emergency? Why do you need to up your nonexistent game?”

He mimes throwing a napkin at her. “Mean!” 

She just grins. “The truth hurts, Bing-ge."

Don't ask me how I ended up writing this modern AU MLC snippet, I just did (over morning coffee).

"Would you like a cigarette?"

"Why? Do I look especially poor?" Li Lianhua bit back, bracing his arm on the rough concrete wall and feeling a stab of something like glee darting through him because he could finally take it out on someone else tonight.

The young man, and he was young, that much Li Lianhua could already tell, from the way he was dressed in a thin cotton tee which stretched over his arms and barely seemed to cover his belly. And the stone washed jeans just hanging off of his hips with an array of silver chains looped over the pockets.

"I would have offered to wipe the blood off your face but I figured you'd like a smoke first," the man had the gall to murmur. "Fang Duobing," he said and extended his hand towards Li Lianhua, beaded bracelets jingling on his wrists.

Li Lianhua thought that if he ignored the man long enough, he would go away. He just focused on taking long breaths and pretending he couldn't feel the sting of cuts and bruises on his face and the way the left side seemed to be slowly going numb.

He did not, in fact, go away.

"Why are you still here?"

"I'm waiting for you to collapse so that I can carry you to the hospital," Fang Duobing replied.

The smugness of youth, Li Lianhua thought, fighting the desire to smile which would open up the cuts on the side of his mouth.

I want to know EVERYTHING about this scene.

How did the director instruct the actors to act in this particular scene? Did they specifically direct the eye movement and Zhuo Yi Chen's panicked reaction? Did the director or assistant demonstrate the scene for the actors beforehand? Did they also mimic the glance at the lips while explaining the moment?

When explaining the scene, did they say something like, "And before answering, you have to lower your gaze to his lips, hold it there, and then say, 'I don’t think it’s a good time' ''?

What do the actors themselves think of the scene - especially the eye moment? Did they laugh about it afterward? Was it improvised? (I doubt it)

I want someone to show them this scene and ask: What is Zhu Yan actually good at here? And why did Zhuo Yi Chen have such a panicked reaction?

This scene might not seem important to some, but I want to know every single detail about it.

I am sure the rehearsal would have been so fun for this one.
