THREE DAY KITE FESTIVAL BEGINS AT THE CITY PALACE Jaipur, 12 January: The three-day Kite Festival was inaugurated today on the terrace of the historic Sarvatobhadra Chowk at the City Palace with the aim of making International and local tourists aware of the Indian Culture. The Festival was inaugurated by HH Maharaja Sawai Padmanabh Singh of Jaipur. Maharaj Narendra Singh was also present on this occasion.   On the occasion, Maharaja Sawai Padmanabh said that it is a matter of pride that Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II Museum Trust had the opportunity to host the annual kite flying mega-event at the City Palace. He also said during this event the City Palace can be seen in a festive mood. The tourists get the opportunity to fly kites and also enjoy the wide array of ethnic food. Such efforts help the State to preserve its local and cultural heritage.   Then Maharaja on this special occasion honored the professional kite flyers of Jaipur by placing floral garlands around their necks. During the festival, kite-flying competitions were also held.   The Rajasthani folk singers also presented traditional folk songs. Along with this the tourists also had the opportunity to view the displayed ‘Kites’ and ‘Charkhie’ pulleys of the Late Sawai Man Singh II (1835 – 1880).

KITE FESTIVAL TO BE CELEBRATED ON 14 JANUARY IN JAIPUR
Jaipur, 11 January : On the occasion of ‘Makar Sankranti’ on 14 January, the Annual Kite Festival is being organized by the Department of Tourism, Government of Rajasthan.  The event will be held from 11 am to 2 pm at the Jal Mahal Ki Pal, Amber Road in Jaipur.
Over the years, this festival has become a special attraction not only for the Jaipurites but also for the tourists visiting the city.
The Department has organised an array of events like exhibition of kites, demonstration of fancy kites as well as a kite flying competition. The kites and the string will be available for the tourists who want to fly kites. Furthermore, on the occasion cultural performances by the local folk artists will also be an attraction . Folk dances like Kachchi Ghodi, Gair, Kalbeliya, Chakri, Puppet as well as Algoja, Langa Singing, Behrupiya, Band and Rawan Hatha Vaadan, among others will be performed. The traditional cuisine of Makar Sankranti like ‘Til-ke-Ladu’ and ‘Dal-Ke-Pakoras’ will also be available. Tourist can also enjoy the Camel Cart Rides on this occasion.

2-DAY CAMEL FESTIVAL FROM 14  JANUARY IN BIKANER Jaipur, 11 January: The 2-day Camel Festival will start from 14 January in Bikaner. The festival includes camel races, camel milking, fur cutting design, among other such fun activities. The event is jointly being organized by the Department of Tourism, Government of Rajasthan and the District Administration, Bikaner. Camel Festival in Bikaner is an annual fair dedicated to the ship of the desert. The camels are beautifully bedecked and form a colourful spectacle. There is plenty of scope for eating, souvenir-shopping and photography at this festival. Other sights to watch out for include folk dancers, fire dancers and the spectacular fireworks show that lights up the night sky above the fortified Desert City. On 14 January the festival will begin with Camel Rides and Camel Safaris for the tourists at the Gram Raisar at 8 am. This will be followed by the Shobhayatra from Junagarh to Dr Karni Singh Stadium at 11.30am and an Inaugural Ceremony at the stadium. The ceremony will include performances by the Bagpiper Army Band and RAC Band. On the occasion competitions like Camel decoration, Camel Fur Cutting, Camel Dance, Miss Marwan and Mr. Bikana will also take place. The day will conclude with cultural performances by Rajasthani Artistes. The day 2 (15January) will begin with a Heritage Walk from Kote Gate to Bikaji Ki Tekri at 9.30 am. At the Dr Karni Singh Stadium  the visitors will witness competitions like ‘Tug of war’, Rural Wresting, Turban Tying (for Foreign Tourists), She-Camel Milking,  Camel dance, among others.  An Exhibition Match of Kabaddi will also take place.  Later in the day Earthen Pot Race and Musical Chair competitions for the women will also take place. This will be followed by the prize distribution ceremony, cultural performances by Rajasthani Artistes. Visitors will be mesmerized with the electrifying Fire Dance performance. The Fireworks will mark an end of the fest.

Kalawati recalls, “we heard of immunisation only after my second child 20 years ago, hospital deliveries started only 10 years ago here.” “Earlier we used to go door to door for immunisation, now in the past 10 years every child here is immunised and 100% deliveries are done in hospitals .” says Sudha Singh, ANM.
