He made it up in the digital space holding their minds, They Are The Only Real Thing in the Circus. He Made It Up and It Worked and it's not because He's Got The Code or anything but because He's Real. He's Real and so is His Mind in the Place Reflecting Everyone's Mind. This is much more important then "Kinger's the creator" this is "The Circus is Influenced by Everybody's Mind", this is "The Characters Have The Power to Change their Situation" this is "They Have Control of This Reality AND THEY HAVE NO IDEA" GUYS DO YOU REALIZE. GUYS. "I COULD REALLY USE ONE OF YOUR BUTTERFLIES KINGER" BABYGIRL YOU DON'T NEED KINGER FOR THIS YOU COULD MAKE YOUR OWN BUTTERFLY. YOU DON'T EVEN NEED IT TO BE A FUCKING BUTTERFLY IT'S JUST THE MANIFESTATION KINGER CHOSE YOURS COULD BE WHATEVER RAGGY BABYGIRL. This can be revolutionary. This could be the answer. Danny, You Need To Calm Down

Me: "I need to nerf Danny a bit for this fic. I should have him only reveal and use his intangibility."

Danny: *is still BAMF and kicks ass*

Me: "Hmm... I did not think this through."

I am serious, though. If you're creative enough and have watched enough superhero media then you'll be able to find all sorts of unusual applications to some of Danny's powers.

With intangibility alone, all Danny needs to do is stand there and let his opponent tire themselves out trying to just land a blow and then fight back. If he has some more melee or martial arts training, he could use a nerve strike and bam, one-shot knock-out. And that's not even counting super strength or flight or telekinesis or why is this boy so overpowered?! /rhetorical

And if you know me, you know how much I love writing a good OP BAMF Danny. But it can be pretty restricting too. With an abundance of powers and a proven track record to gain more powers when necessary, it's not exactly easy to keep Danny down. There are a few known weaknesses we can use to our advantage here, but they come with their own issues:

Major Weaknesses

Blood Blossoms

We've seen blood blossoms are pretty effective on ghosts from the "Infinite Realms" episode in Season 3, but only on Danny's ghost half. I always thought it was a bit strange, since Danny has used ghost powers in his human form so technically it should still affect him? But that's just a personal headcanon so feel free to ignore that.

But! Since Danny could just transform (if he can get past the total agony it causes him) then he'll be fine again. Blood blossoms are also edible, as proven by Tucker, which makes me wonder if Danny could eat them in his human form and make it out unscathed? Since it's only his ghost half that's susceptible to them.

However, it's commonly headcanon'd that blood blossoms are extinct as we only see them in this episode back in the 1600s from the Salem Witch Trials. But canon also tends to bring up some really interesting concepts and then just... never mention them again, so it's possible they're still out there and the Fentons just never learned of them.

Ecto-ranium

We don't see this one come up too many times in fanfiction, if only because many of us have totally blocked out the episode it aired in, "Phantom Planet", from our minds entirely. Ecto-ranium is essentially the equivalent of kryptonite, but for ghosts. (Unsurprising, seeing as Phantom Planet likely took inspiration from Christopher Reeve's Superman II.)

This does come with some plotholes of its own, seeing as intangibility had allowed the ecto-ranium to pass through the Earth despite ecto-ranium supposedly making it impossible for ghosts to use their powers? I'm still trying to wrap my head around that one, I won't lie...

So obviously this weakness also has some shaky ground to stand on.

Mind Control

We see in "Control Freaks" that Danny is pretty susceptible to mind control as well, so long as it comes from the right source. We learn that Vlad continues to collect ghostly artifacts, so it's entirely possible he could find another magical device of equal power and use. Freakshow himself comes from a family with a wide range and collection of ghostly artifacts.

It's also possible that ghosts like Undergrowth could be able to control Danny as well, as he was able to puppet Sam through his vines and plants.

Danny is still capable of breaking through the mind control, if given enough reason to. There is also proof, though, that he can do a lot of damage to himself and others before that time comes. Just food for mischievous author thought.

Plasmius Maximus

This device only appears in the episode "Maternal Instincts" but Vlad had created it to shorten out Danny's powers for three hours. This is another instance of an interesting concept that disappeared after one episode, but considering how Danny used it against Vlad, maybe the man just didn't want to risk it a second time.

Nonetheless, this does prove Danny's powers can be temporarily locked away. How this is possible isn't exactly clear, but I've taken to using a yarn knot analogy to explain it. I won't bore you with that explanation (unless you're actually interested) since it leans more into fanon and headcanons than canon.

Lesser Weaknesses

Blackmail

Now this isn't really a surprise to anyone since Danny is a good kid and most superheroes have this weakness, but Danny is very much susceptible to threats made against his family and loved ones. We see that Freakshow uses this against Danny in "Reality Trip" to make him do his dirty work, as in: collect all the pieces for the Reality Gauntlet.

We might make jokes that Danny could easily defeat anyone he comes across, but the truth of the matter is that he takes these threats seriously and he's lucky more people haven't used it against him.

Inexperience

This one is more understandable and maybe not even technically a weakness but this boy is so silly stupid sometimes it's honestly really endearing. He doesn't have the best grasp of his powers so he can make all sorts of unfortunate mistakes. Danny is the type of person who learns as he goes, and thanks to the fact his one eligible teacher also so happens to be the same guy trying to murder his father... his options are a little limited.

However, this can be easily fixed given enough time and practice. Danny might not have any formal training but he's also proven to be a very fast learner which could very well make up for whatever else he lacks. Due to the unique nature of himself and his powers, there's also a chance that even with a mentor he would still largely be self-taught.

It can still be pretty hard to write though. When you want to have high stakes, then you need to have a credible threat. And for a kid that has a gazillion powers, all with countless applications, it gets a lot more complicated. Honestly sometimes Danny might not have even needed the new power if he just applied one he already had in a different way? But so is the life of a teenage, overpowered superhero.

UT/DR human SOULs headcanons (with pictures)!

I was thinking about what my thoughts of them were gonna be, and decided to make a post! But I guess I need to start from what Determination (DT) is!

See, at first, I made a mistake assuming that red SOUL trait was called DT as well, as it was wildly popular headcanon. This is what interacting with the fandom before playing the game gets you… But I searched all over the game, and didn’t find any other hint besides Frisk having ‘the most of DT’. Word Determination however, is written in golden text, SAVE points are golden too. Meanwhile, snow ball game doesn’t even name the red trait, only suggests that Frisk has it because of their ability to show other six in the right situation. 

So basically, I headcanon them as different things! DT is the power to deceive death (whether you are avoiding it yourself, or accidentally raise ‘not a nice person’ from the grave…), but red trait is ‘being able to still stay yourself no matter what happens. You can stand against adversity - the game suggests that ‘it’s still you’ if you don’t become all too evil. Sinse red trait did not have actual name…

I decided that it shouldn’t have one name, then! This trait will be known as humanity for humans and monsterity for monsters. I like to think that Chara’s red SOUL came from the fact that whatever pain humans they knew put on them, they didn’t bend and instead just cursed their entire kind and helped themselves out of it. Kris wanted to stay their quiet, weird kid self so much that they tore their SOUL out when they realized it’s moving… also a very willing move.

Perseverance is aligned with not giving up, too! The difference is, purple trait is when you will face any challenges and changes you have to in order to survive, but red trait is when you refuse to bend abandon your ideals, even if it MIGHT end you… But if you are THAT cool - your SOUL is not only immortal, but can reverse death! Works for bad humans too - are you ‘still yourself’ because you refused to let the world ruin you, or because you turned down every single chance to redemption and stayed bad?

And seven’th flower in Asgore’s basement being golden and not red? I think that represents just how hard it is to achieve the red trait!

I also personally believe that human SOULs can come in any color thinkable! EXCEPT for pink/magenta… It would feel strange for me if human SOULs had classification other than ‘just a human SOUL!’, even though 7 pure rainbow traits are good umbrella terms for most virtues that aren’t intellectual or talent ones. Green human is not ‘a human with SOUL of kindness’, it is ‘a kind human with a SOUL of a human’! Basically, if it has a color - it is a human SOUL! And I like to think that all human SOULs might change colors.

Monsters’ SOULs don’t flicker, as they are more keen with nature (to the point of naturally not trying to defy death, apparently…) and right feelings more often than not find them on their own - especially if they are shown kindness from someone else. Humans can actually choose to use (or not use) other virtues, because ‘Humans don’t need love and compassion to survive’.

As for the Ghost monsters, I really like to think that they originate from humans. Napstablook can’t get killed, and doesn’t have a SOUL - they ARE a SOUL! A white SOUL, specifically. I belive Mad Dummy ghost is white too. But as you can see, body, memories and even complexity of personality are lost - Napstablook is always sad, Mad Dummy is always angry… Mettaton was always sweet and sentimental, unless I misread it. Their only shot to come out of the state of Limbo is to take a shot at second life, being reborn as a monster (that happened with Mettaton, as you can kill him in robot body).

I like to think that if we were to play as other fallen humans, battles would almost always default into their preferred mode. Patience and Bravery modes were not used for reals, but I like to think that cyan SOUL mode would default into rhytm-game, whereas orange SOUL mode would have you smash buttons madly to ‘attack’ the bullets pattern with your movement! If you slow down and try to dodge naturally - they would get you.

Now, about Deltarune? I tried to imagine on what other humans might look like in the Dark World…

This one is not accurate to my specific fallen humans designs due to difference in brightness, more like, I tried to use Kris’ coloration as default. Just a small handy reference for me if I must design any more human fan-characters for Deltarune setting! As for whether personality of humans might effect their battle style…

I like to think so, yes! Bow to take down the bad guys, closest range weapon to face the enemy head on… Essentially, the most versatile ones are honest humans and ‘screw you, world!’ humans - albeit most often, you will find the former using culture objects and tools, whereas latter tends to use weapon showing raw power, since their personality is so powerful.

And just a small bonus of fusion traits, because I really like to imagine what fusion modes might be like! For example, orange + purple mode could easily work like old Doodle Jump game in the phones! I made extra effort to remove magenta/pink colors from the list, so the closest to it is pale-red confidence. Admittedly, they are rarer, and more importantly, fusions that include red colored mode seem to be… not very nice. I like to imagine that if we got to play as genuinely a very mean human, those would be their SOUL modes… You can just see very strong emphasis on ‘refusal’ in these traits!

Well, with that said, I think I am done geeking out about the traits here! I just really love to analyze this stuff, besides it will just be handy reference in the future.. (And I did have to stop myself before geeking out about how fusion SOULs modes gameplay would be, the post gotten loooong.)

I think I've cracked the mystery of the red soul's trait...(yes really)

It's been years since the community is debating about the Red soul's real trait, since it's one of the game's biggest mysteries left intentionally up to the player interpretation. The most popular contender being of course determination despite the lack of evidences. However, after years of pondering, I think I might be into something thanks to my findings. Let's not look further than the only place that's supposed to reveal us every soul trait, aka the Ball Game.

The first message we get by interacting with this game is:

Curious how the only word that's written in red in the whole neutral/pacifist run (in narration i mean, not dialogues) is in a context where different color typing plays a crucial role in revealing every soul's trait. That's not the only thing that stands out with its typing. The word is capitalized just like all other traits:

It's also written in quotation marks, as if it is not supposed to be a literal hole or a metaphor for something else within the context of the Ball Game.

And finally, all of these specificities are gone once you exhaust the Snowdin's kill count and can't play the Ball Game anymore:

This strongly suggests that all typing specifities I've mentioned before are directly tied to the Ball Game alone, hence why they're gone when the game can't be played. It all feels too deliberate to be a coincidence, so it's likely supposed to be connected to the red soul's trait.

Hole is emptiness, which means that hole symbolizes the absence of trait, which more likely than not means that the red soul is the one every human is born with before developing their trait through experience. It's also interesting how Frisk pulls a flag from said "hole" by using different methods to win, as if they were pulling a trait from their soul by using different tactics to reach their goal. As if it symbolized how Frisk develops their personality using different tactics to reach their goal. Speaking of which, let's analyze the second word written in red in the ball game:

It's undeniable that the use of red text here is directly tied to the red soul as you get the message when you get the red flag, supposed to represent the red soul. "Ball Game" also has the same exact typing specifities as the "Hole" (capitalization and quotation marks). So "Ball Game" is very likely also supposed to symbolize the red trait that Frisk get by using the six other traits. Of course, Frisk doesn't get their trait just by playing a mini game but it works as a metaphor for Frisk's journey in the underground. They start as a little kid who's still figuring their identity and develop one throughout their journey in the underground. One that's not restricted to a single trait but is a combination of all these traits (I guess it only the case for Pacifist route since it's the true ending). So the red text for "Ball Game" either means Frisk's trait turns into a combination of all the 6 traits since they're parts of the game or that the entire Ball Game was supposed to symbolize Frisk's journey of figuring out their identity as it's implied by the second red flag's message:

It's important to note that Frisk only gets this message AFTER "winning" the Ball Game and getting the red flag for the first time, so it likely means Frisk already "developed their own identity", so all they do by getting the second red flag (which became their final trait) is to continue being themselves.

Here some other interesting facts. First, the wording for the first red flag's message make it feel like a much more definitive victory ("you were able to win at "Ball Game") compared to messages for the rest of the flags:

There's no sense of definitive victory unlike the message that Frisk gets when they get the red flag, heavily implying that the goal of the Ball Game was to symbolize Frisk's journey to develop their own identity. It's also suggested by fact that getting the red flag the first time gives you the highest award and is the most difficult flag to get.

It all ties way too beautifully for it all to be simple coincidences, especially given Frisk's role as our controllable protagonist with an ambiguous personality, appearance and expression. Dunno what you think of this little theory of mine but I'm 100% convinced that all it was deliberate as it fits just seamlessly. But to each their own, I guess.
