I feel bad for not being at #RCCC this year to look at emerging artists’ portfolios- something I’m committed to doing at every convention. If I had been there, here’s what I probably would have told you.
I was hoping this would end with “but Doctor, I am Good Omens”
Well folks, it happened.
Today I had the talk.
With my therapist.
About Good Omens.
Did I get any advice on how to manage my hyperfixation that has taken over my life to the point that it has become a problem?
No.
Did he pull out his phone and Google "Good Omens" and say "Oh, Neat. There's a lot of famous people in this. Oh, Neil Gaiman! I'll have to watch this."
This child who came to my house tonight is literally the funniest human being on the planet. She complimented me on having both lollipops and mini Three Musketeers available because "a lot of houses these days don't give you a fruit flavor option." She was very solemn about this.
Do you ever think about how Tolkien’s vision of the greatest evil in the universe was something he referred to as “The Machine” which was his way of talking about accelerated industrialism and mass surveillance and he wrote multiple books where the main villains were a dragon who sits on a huge pile of treasure that he never intends to use but incinerates anyone who comes near it, a man in a giant tower who’s wrecking the environment with his factories, and an evil being who uses what’s essentially a listening device to control the citizens of middle earth. And now Amazon is making a Tolkien show. Do you ever think about that.
