Here’s a little Feature Story I wrote about MLB’s Opening Day. A big thanks to Pete Vasquez and the Alice Echo News Journal for running it in last week’s paper. It’s dedicated to legends like Bobby Cuellar, Jose Treviño, Jim Acker, Brooks Kieschnick, Anthony Banda, Ryan Duke, Nick Lofton, Mike Adams, Mike Gonzalez, Tres Barrera and countless others who have made the Big Leagues feel local. What can I say? I love baseball! Happy Monday, Y’all! 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼

Our youngest son won’t remember the moment this picture was taken of us at the Clemson game, but I sure will. Thanks to our new friend Janan Miller sitting above us, this moment is beautifully frozen in time. @TexasFootball has given me and my family many blessings like this and created a lifetime of wonderful Longhorn memories. God-willing, we will continue to make a few million more. Thank you, Longhorn Nation and @_delconte, for always making us proud to bleed burnt orange. 🤘🏼 #HookEm

There’s a kind of strength that doesn’t shout yet speaks volumes through quiet actions. It’s the kind of strength my father embodies every single day of his life. He’s not just the strongest man I know. He’s the smartest, most selfless, most spiritual, and most generous. He’s been my rock, my guide, my unwavering supporter, and, in so many ways, my best friend. When I think of the man I want to be, the father I strive to become for my own children, I see his reflection in my heart.
From when I was a kid, my dad was there, not just present, but engaged. Whether it was lugging paint and fixtures to help spruce up our old fraternity house at The University of Texas (and making sure the fridge was well-stocked with food and maybe some beer, naturally), being the first and biggest investor in my music dreams, or working shoulder to shoulder with me in our engineering firms, he has been there at every critical juncture of my life. I’ve always known my dad believed in me, even during times when I struggled to believe in myself.
His love, however, doesn't stop at just supporting me. It extends to everyone he's touched. He's worked from sunrise until long after sunset to ensure our family’s well-being. Growing up, he also worked tirelessly to help provide for his Momma, my Grandma Meta, and his siblings. Yet, no matter how long or hard the day, he was never too tired to show up for my sister Odie and me. Football games, track meets, band concerts, cheerleading, choir, kickball, and soccer, he was there, often the loudest cheerleader, even if he was also the quietest man in the room. It's a presence and a promise he remains committed to for his grandkids today.
Dad has never balked at a hard day’s work and never ever flinched at changing a messy diaper, firing up a backyard BBQ, or dealing with a mountain of responsibilities. He’s the kind of man whose hands are as skilled with tools as they are gentle with his grandkids. And don't get me started on his beautiful mind and the brilliance he's imparted to all of us over the years. He's taught me that life isn’t about fleeting accolades or the meaningless outward appearances that consume so many of us today. He's taught me that life is more about showing up, providing, loving, and leading with humility and unwavering faith.
Over the years, he's impacted not only our immediate family but many others, as well. Many of my childhood friends still recall and share their own stories and conversations they had with Dad growing up, often detailing moments when his wisdom left an indelible mark on their lives. It fills me with a quiet pride to know how deeply he has touched others, not just as my dad but as a mentor to anyone blessed enough to cross his path.
Today, as we celebrate his birthday, I want him to know that while he shuns the pomp and circumstance, his legacy speaks louder than any party or gift ever could. He is the best son, brother, uncle, husband, Daddy, and Papaw we have ever known. And though I know I could live a thousand lifetimes and still not measure up to the man he is, I’m honored to keep trying, fueled by his love and belief in me.
Daddy, I love you, chingos, and more than words can say. Thank you for the sacrifices you’ve made, the lessons you’ve taught, and the steadfast example you’ve set. May God Bless you with billions and billions more birthdays because this world and our family need your light.
Happy Birthday, Daddy! My cup runneth over.

With a heavy heart, we announce the cancellation of tonight's Halo Flight benefit show at the 534 Mesquite Inn in Sandia/Lagarto, Texas. We were only informed this week, and despite our best efforts to find solutions to keep the event on schedule, internal issues and concerns have ultimately prevented the benefit from going forward this weekend. We sincerely apologize for the late notice and any inconvenience this may cause.
As someone who grew up in the rural community of Green Acres/Ben Bolt, Texas, I understand firsthand the life-saving importance that Halo Flight provides to areas like ours. That's why we remain committed to supporting Halo Flight with future benefits and philanthropic projects, including their annual Casino Night Dinner and Dance in Corpus Christi in the Spring, with the date to be announced soon.
While the benefit concert won't happen tonight, my brother Isaac Jacob will still play a regular show at the 534 Club tonight. We encourage you to come out and support Isaac and his band as they bring their incredible music to Lagarto/Sandia tonight.
Thank you for being so understanding, and we look forward to seeing you at future events supporting this vital cause. #SupportHaloFlight #HaloFlight #IsaacJacobBand #534Club

Happy 4th of July, Y’all! Have fun, stay safe, and let freedom ring! Remember that the ideals of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness are inalienable rights that should be protected at all costs and allowed to be spread and to flourish for all to enjoy. We are blessed as Americans to live under this beautiful experiment that is our democracy, and it is up to all of us to ensure its survival for generations and centuries to come.

As a memorial to the day the music died, I kicked off my album Diablo with the newsflash of the February 3rd, 1959 tragedy. It’s no coincidence that the song right after that is Welcome To My Country. Happy Saturday, Y’all! 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼. #Diablo #RitchieValens #BuddyHolly #TheBigBopper #JPRichardson #JRCastillo #TexicanCountry #ChicanoCountry #CountryMusic #LatinCountry https://open.spotify.com/track/1XNaXMc1wicE5cyCnHNVaz?si=VqFbky-VSI-UZghKw9bN2g&context=spotify%3Aalbum%3A55npBA6ZWlBDJGSFUiZmsC

Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Cestohowa, TX along SH 123 is one of my favorite places along my route to Austin. Over the years I’ve had the honor to play several shows and festivals at the hall nearby and despite it’s remote location, the folks seemed to pour in from all over. It’s also near the site of El Fuerte de Santa Cruz Del Cibolo, which played a humble, yet very significant role in America’s fight for independence and victory during the American Revolution. #Cestohowa #ElFuerteDelCibolo #AmericanHistory #TexasDancehalls #jrcastillo (at Cestohowa, Texas) https://www.instagram.com/p/CnpBYYgrLnC/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
