The current state of social media ethics: what trends are happening in the industry?

I feel that recently the trends that have been going on in the social media industry have a lot to do with advertisements, Artificial intelligence and Virtual reality. These three specifically stand out to me the most and are what i have seen the most of online and been hearing about. 

 What are two current cases related to social media ethics? Outline the current code of ethics for social media by a professional organization you would be interesting in joining as part of their social media staff.

Two current cases that i can that i can think of right away are the data privacy thing that has been going on about how they are using our data for bad reasons and another one i can think of is content moderation. These two right now i feel have been a very big talk in the world.  

Brands/professionals with strong social media ethical codes: what brands are utilizing proper social media ethical practices? Are there any professionals that you feel practice strong ethical behavior on social media? Support your choice with evidence. What are some takeaways you can bring forth in your own practices?

Some brands that utilize proper social media ethical practices can include brands like Vans and Gibson Guitars they are always very transparent and are authentic and promote positive things. Yes, there is one youtuber who I think practices strong ethical behavior. He is very active on social media and is very transparent about what is going on in his life and is honest with his fans and does a lot of other people and his community. Some takeaways that i could bring forth into my own practices is being more open with people maybe.  

Key concepts and issues: what main concepts do you are necessary to adhere to for your own personal conduct online?

For me I believe that I need to be nice and respectful to everyone online and take everyone's thoughts into consideration. Some people need to also think before they post what they post, which i always do. I'm not on social media much but when I do I try to be as respectful as possible.  

What to do and what not to do: what main concepts do you feel strongly against and want to make sure you avoid on social media?

I feel very strongly that people online need to be nicer to each other. People are so mean because they are behind a screen but i feel very strongly that everyone should have respect for each other. I try to avoid all the bad stuff on social media I only look at what my friends post and some of the stuff that I am interested but I try to stay off as much as possible.

I believe that in order to have a good company such as a nonprofit you must have a very strong following of people who follow what they are doing, and they need to have the right social media and websites to get their name out there. I decided to look into a non-profit that is already very bit it is the Amputee Coalition, I have decided to look at this because my Father Who passed away a few years back was an amputee and seeing him go through that struggle really makes me want to help people who are going through the same thing so I thought that this would be a good nonprofit to look into. 

After looking through This nonprofits website and social medias it was hard to find corrections that they could make they have a very strong following and I feel that they must be doing very well. They are very consistent and are always doing work or always posting something new. Their smallest following is on Tik Tok with only 500 followers, They have Zero posts on that account I think right now in this time if they were to use tik Tok more it could be very big for them and maybe they could rech out to a younger audience to make them aware of the struggles that these people have to go through. I know that recently the younger generation and many other people use Tik Tok a lot every day and they could use that to their advantage to reach out to another group of people that could help them more. Their biggest following is on Facebook with 124 thousand where they do very well and post almost every other day, but I feel that a lot of the older generations use face book, and it could help they if they Tried to spread out a bit more. 

The Website for the Amputee Coalition is done very well everything is very straight forward and done very well and it is very easy to navigate your way through the website. They have many ways to contact other people to find help and or just talk to someone, which I think is very nice. Overall, I thought that this Organization is done very well and is very well structured. The only thing that I think they could do more of on their website is advertise their social media more, especially towards the younger crowd. They do a very good job of keeping up with everything though and having very good communication on their website with how to get in contact with people or how to donate or help yourself, which I think is awesome. This is my first time ever seeing this website and I really wish that I had seen this before and done some more digging early on so I could learn more about it myself and help out but I am very glad I came across this so I can now maybe help in the future.

Social media to me is a good thing and a bad thing, I believe that it is a good way to make connections and to meet new people. Me Personally have met a lot of other people on social media with the same interest as me and there are a lot of ways people can promote things and help others. I see lot of people post things to either help others or bring awareness to something. Although there are a lot of positives in the social media world, there are many negatives too. You defiantly can't believe everything that you see on social media, and you also must remember you don't know a lot of the people which to me is scary. Another bi negative is that i feel it has separated a lot of us from each other, I feel that whenever I'm in a social settings more than half of the people will be on their phones on social media posting about what they are doing more than enjoying what is actually going on Infront of them and one of the biggest things to me is time I don't find myself on social media that often but when I do I find it hard to get off when I have been on it for a little. Sometimes it's hard for me to put my phone down especially when I have nothing to do, I don't like being on it so recently I started setting blockers on my phone, so I get off.  

I try not to go on social media as much as possible I can but when I am on social media i do find that I am more of a Listener, I'm not very active on social media I don't post a lot I more just have it to look around find stuff that I think is interesting and look at things that my friends posts. I Find that some of my strengths when using social media is that I use it to make a lot of connections i have been making music for some time now and I've found that the best way to get out there is through social media I have met many connections around the country to either talk about music or even just ask questions. Some challenges for me would probably be putting myself out there I've never been big on posting or promoting my own stuff I've only used it to talk one on one with some people I think that I should be putting my stuff out on social media I've just never been big into it. 

Somethings I'm hoping to get out of this class are learning some more benefits to social media and how to use it more to my advantage. I've always thought of social media and thought it was negative, but I would really like to learn more of the positives. I am very excited to learn more about social media and its effects on the world.
