Critic with Sophia Sobers
Ms. Sobers had those following suggestions:
Looking for the movie Afterlife for similar inspiration.
For narrative and 'interesting or not' questions, they will unfold when actually building it.
How to present actual people(figures) walking in the maze?
Heavy material and light material comparison can create the ideal weight for the whole piece.
Manageable size.
Integrate the illustration work with them.
Inspiration- missing the name and the artist(notes left in studio).
The idea of fabric(scrolls) surroundings are obscure so will prevent viewers from seeing the whole thing, which is one effect I have to figure out if I want or not.
Maybe make your own paper and use instead.
Leave the little clues for the poetic feeling.
The presentation table can also be part of the sculpture.
Dolls are interesting; Looking into literature for liminal spaces.
How much do I want to lay out the whole story?
Transform the poetic beauty into the making process.
Don’t make it into a box of tricks.
Blurriness for transition of the person becoming city blocks.
Inspiration- Art on paper, beautifully crafted artworks. Thinking of multiple references. https://thepaperfair.com/ny/galleries/
The next step is doing prototypes for small areas.
Prepare for shift and change.

Critic with Steven Pestana
Mr. Pestana has suggested the following after hearing the introduction for the project:
1. Maybe add sound/video components project on the piece; In this case, video can be use like a light source to highlight parts of it, that is, creating a video that will create a spot light and Shift it to other parts of the sculpture. In that case, parts can be change by using the video;
2. For the background story/narrative parts in general, use not a entire story line, but hints for them;
3. Thinking about components outside of the sculpture; for example, portraits of characters/souls that represent and telling their transformation;
He also raised some questions and suggesting solutions for the presentation:
1. How long will people stay with the piece?
Finding strategies for people to stay with the work
People want to interpret/ observe the work with their own minds, so leave the work to communicate if the work is effective
Working with the narrative
2. How much will they know about the story?
Need to have a very specific idea
Precondition for the work
Just making it and developing it over time
3. For viewers, how to approach your work?
And some questions/suggestions in terms of how may I start working on it:
Break the big idea into small ideas, make it easier to approach the project in a psychological less intimidating way
Make a to do list
For example, what is the maze? Alice in wonderland maze? If so, then find something that looks like it
Once you have that, how to assemble that?
Break down into smaller chunks
Chunks that can lives on their own, chunks that can be part of something else, like a potential future pieces to prevent not finish it on time.
Visiting Ruben Museum and see the cast imagination of the Mandala city
Coming to specific parts of making it/technical questions:
A lot of things can be made not only by Maya
Rhino
Need to simplify the process since learning the software will take a lot amount of time.
Sometimes it is more complicated to make something in software than to make them in real life. How can I simply the process?
Maintain some small details, looking up fine art miniatures.
Look up A romantic comedy, Kevin Franchaces
Buying some part but also making it
Jewelry making can be helpful in making small detail objects. (Learning Jewelry making at home? A little torch or something?)
Put care into it, resonate with someone.
Making paper model, just drawing things and cutting them out.

Critic with American Artist
Over the two drafts I had, American Artist showed more interests on the movie project. He said that this one fits my skill set, and to him that this one looks more fine art than the other one, as he thought the miniature grave is more productive. He raised the question of what I would like to do after graduation and suggested me doing my thesis in that direction(which I don’t really know). Basically, the question will be how are things I already know right now will be in use for future project?
He also thought that I should go with unfamiliar, saying fine art side, since I already got the illustration skills as a safe area(which is not to be honest). For the project, he suggested me to explore as much as I can, rely on practical skills, and put them in a more experimental/challenging way to define the concept and abstract side of it.
He asked the question of why in this concept art& film merchandise form, and my answer for that is this non-linear way of interpreting the story kinda fits my theme for it.
I also asked him about as I never done installation before, what suggestions may he give. He said about the following aspects:
How much will it cost?
How many pieces are you going to build in terms of completing it?
How are people going to interact with it?
Public safety.
Then he suggested me to start working on both and then see what feel’s like the right direction.
My final question is that I would like to know him opinion about, that I made both these two proposals based on things/skills I like to do, and I’m not sure if this sounds right. He answered with the first question of how to define “like”, and said that he likes drawing but as we saw his works, he didn’t put any drawings among them; the second part is about the social content, basically who am I making my works to? What’s the significance of making the work to public? Because if I only made works I like, then I can only show it to myself.
And the critic part ends here. After that I’ve thought of some of his questions; I think one thing for the last one is that I want to show my work to others and get positive feedback. I know how this sounds stupid and ignorant, but as I’m starting to build up social media portfolio sites I think I’m way too trapped for this point.
