Final Project
I chose to draw my final drawing based off of Mark Rothko work. More specifically the painting that is untitled 1969 from the Art Institute of Chicago which I’ve provided in my tumblr post. It is currently not up for display for reasons unknown. I chose this artist because of the simplicity of his work. It may seem like so little but says so much, although this one feels darker and deeper and the other paintings have a vibrant color it all can change moods.
When examining Mark's work I didnt wanna copy it 100% so I modified it but adding 2 more strips across one being another gray and one uplifting my work with a little white. But what I did that I felt left my touch was by adding my red triangle to the center so your eye’s go to the middle and feel the colors and shapes more so hopefully it speaks to you.
Five things I learned about Mark's life that I found interesting was that he was born in 1903 which feels like forever ago. He was born in Latvia, Russia and died in New York. Mark Rothko was born with the name of Marcus Rothkowitz but because he had fears about growing Nazi influence in the United States it led him to adopt the anglicized name of Mark Rothko in January 1940. Once he gained popularity, he was considered a sell out. He absolutely despised Pop Art. Lastly Rothko was diagnosed with a mild aortic aneurysm and ended up taking his own life.
A piece of art this semester I enjoyed by my peers has to be Adam Shaffer’s selfie portrait with the filter of the soulja boy sunglasses. I was inspired by his creativity and confidence for posting a selfie like that. It showed his funny side to the project but also his artistic skills to be able to draw that. I loved how he thought of that and was confident to pull that off, so codos to Adam that week and for giving me inspiration for the rest of the semester.

This was my inspiration for my surrealism HW this week, I wanted to incorporate space with mountains and grass, making it looks super trippy. As well as adding an avalanche to my mountains coming at my muse. Thank you for reading!

This is my friend Nolan , I would like to shout him out on here for letting him be my muse for this project. I used these vibrant colors on the shed because if you know Nolan he has a ton of great energy and vibes when your around him so i feel like he is giving this shed more life than just the color red. Then I made his hair a little crazy because he has a explosive personality. Thanks for reading!

Growing up I’ve also loved Pokémon and my favorite character was Squirtle, so I figured this would be a prefect time to paint him! So Squirtle is a Water-type Pokémon introduced in Generation I. It evolves into Wartortle starting at level 16, which evolves into Blastoise starting at level 36.

1.) My relationship with selfies has changed very much over the last decade for sure. When I look about 10 years ago, I went 11 years old not really caring about taking picture and more being a kid living in the moment but as I have progressed in my life and cameras have gotten drastically better, I appreciate the good selfie to capture the moment so I can look back and reminisce on that time.
I feel like socially selfies have gotten more acceptable to as we get older to be able to capture the moment and emotionally, I feel I have gotten more attached to my selfies because when I look back on them it reminds me of the time around that selfie.
2.) When looking in the past decade selfie angles have changed so much. To just list a couple things off, you can use selfie sticks to get even more of a wider better angle. Also, people like to use these lighting rings around their selfies to make there lighting even better.
Another thing is with so many different apps available you can use for maybe different cool filters within your selfie compared to back then where we just stuck our hand out and took a selfie. So, I can’t imagine what the next 10 years has in mind for our selfies. I personally think the current angle is high hand position so you can really capture the background and moment.
3.) I completely agree that humanity has had a long fascination with altering our self-imagine throughout history even in paintings we wanted tom to make sure we looked better and same with times now. I personally do not think we have reached a plateau with selfies for many reasons
One being that with new and evolving technologies like in snapchat we are able to put filters around our face that we can be interactive with. Also, we are able to control every little aspect of the filters we have today so you can always create something new. Lastly Technologies continues to develop in ways in never imagined so I don’t see it stop soon. So I think companies will keep us engaged with selfies with more interactive filters to keep the users excited and on their toes.
